  1. That would be my take Andy. Almost a week between games so no real rotation needed. 3 games in just over a week coming up. Rotation makes more sense against the weaker teams when the recovery time between games is going to be less and less of a risk to our qualification as a top seed in the next round.
  2. Gillespie, Carson Tait, Grimshaw Carroll, Livingstone Gallagher, Dunne, Hartley, Maguire Sloth, Donnelly, Campbell, Semple, Turnbull Seedorf, Ilic Cole, Hylton Long, Scott, Johnson Pretty decent squad on the face of it. Any additional money spent should focus solely on quality.
  3. I dont see us making any more signings unless someone becomes available that is too good to turn down. Not many of those are gonna fancy Motherwell unless we get in before anyone else. We have pretty much 2 players for every position. A goalscorer or creative midfielder until Turnbull gets fit would be the only areas for me.
  4. I think it was a mixture of playing back on the right and having to adjust to new players in front of him. The sticky pitch didnt help either. Tait relies a lot on his athleticism but the ball kept holding up and getting stuck under players feet. Im sure he will be much happier back on the grass next Friday. I dont like to be overly critical of astro pitches but on a hot day like yesterday they need to be heavily watered to get them playable.
  5. Agree with pretty much all of this although I didnt think it was a penalty and I thought Carroll looked pretty decent. Thought he had a much better game than Tait who looked out of sorts today.
  6. Allan Campbell by a country mile. Never stopped the entire 90 mins. Must be a nightmare to play against. Creditable mentions for Gillespie, Gallagher, Carroll, Hylton and Seedorf. The latter 2 providing much greater impact than the players they replaced, albeit that could just be down to match sharpness. Plenty of positives even this early on in the season.
  7. Not every scoreline tells the full story. The Lanelli game was our first game back after pre-season and Gannon had only been in the door 2 minutes. That was rectified in the away leg. The games agsinst Flamarturi and Steaua at Airdrie were very exciting to watch and Gannons stats over the first 1/4 of the season were impressive. You cant be a useless fud and manage that. Character flaws, yes, great manager, no, but to suggest he had no managerial ability whatsoever clearly isnt right.
  8. If we play the ball on the ground and get crosses into the box I think you are right. Guy is a penalty box player. Get him and the ball in the box at the same time he will get goals. Pointless trying to get him to play the Curtis Main role. He doesnt have the physical attributes. Even Moult struggled to play the lone striker role and he had more of a physical presence than Johnson.
  9. My recollection of the game was that it was pretty much one way traffic and it was only a matter of when the 2nd goal was going to come. As Andy P says, that would have made it very interesting. I think Im right in saying they got a dodgy penalty which was converted and took the wind right out of our sails and gave them encouragement. Regardless. The point still stands. Gannon might have been bonkers. But he wasnt a clueless fud. Those European games were some of the best football Ive seen ftom a Motherwell team in recent years and followed into the start of the league campaign. Unfortunately it didnt last long before he pressed the self destruct button.
  10. A clueless fud who managed to put out a team of young boys that ripped Steaua Bucharest apart.......
  11. Seemed to have a good eye for talent. A lot of his signings did very well for us. Also didnt mind throwing young players in which also showed early promise. The Flamarturi and Steaua games at Airdrie were fabulous entertainment. However, there is no doubt he was just a little bit bonkers so probably no surprise that the early promise didnt last. Life certainly wasnt dull when he was around thats for sure!
  12. You gotta love the trolls.....
  13. Id be getting a 2nd opinion before putting the boy under the knife.....
  14. Celtic have tried to renegotiate the deal. Motherwell have said bugger off..... https://www.motherwellfc.co.uk/2019/06/27/david-turnbull-to-stay-at-motherwell/
  15. David Turbull is still our player. Lets call time on this farce and get him on a plane to Belfast. Still time for EPL clubs to come in at a later date. The boy isnt done because of one dodgy looking knee scan.
  16. I would love to have kept Turnbull another season. Im sure the club would too in a perfect world. But the player has a say in that too. There is no way he would have signed his new contract without a clause in it allowing him to talk to clubs that met our value. Thats just modern day football.
  17. Beat me to it. The difference with Faddy and O'Donnell was that they were here longer so we got to see more of them. Turnbull scored 16 goals from 30 starts in midfield and got the SFWPOTY out of that. He has gone quickly because everyone can see he is special.
  18. Not many. In 40 odd years supporting Motherwell I can only think of...... Wullie P (heartbroken) McLair McAllister Lambert O'Donnell McFadden Thats the level David Turnbull will aspire to. Anyone who thinks he isnt that good is either in denial or hasnt really been watching.
  19. Some of our support are absolutely miles out. David Turnbull is a Motherwell fan. He signed an extension with us to ensure the club would benefit from his sale instead of doing a Hastie. Ok he has moved to Celtic. However, he has done so in the knowledge that a couple good seasons he will move on and our club will earn another significant windfall. He will undoubtedly go on to be one of the best talents to come out of Scotland in recent years. We should be delighted that he is one of us and that he got his start at Fir Park. It wont be nice to see him come back to FirPark in the green and white. But we need to suck it up and respect what he has done for us.
  20. Who is to say his agent isnt using Celtic to get more out of Norwich? He may well sign for Celtic, but until he is paraded in a Celtic shirt Im not taking anything as read. Wake me up when its over!
  21. Just posted almost exactly the same in the other thread!
  22. We shouldnt change our model. You have to budget for income you can guarantee. However, if we are no longer servicing debt. The money that was being used to do that will be freed up to spend on other things. Going forward, if we sell a player, that money will now be spent on things that we as fans should see a tangible difference in. Whether that be stadium improvements, academy investments or modest increases in players contracts. If done wisely should allow us to improve year on year.
