  1. We are 5 points clear of Hamilton and 9 clear of St Mirren and Dundee coming into a run of winnable fixtures. Anyone thinking Stephen Robinson is getting sacked anytime soon needs to have a word with themselves. Never gonna happen.
  2. Good luck to Andy Rose. An underrated player very much under appreciated by sections of our support. Put in the hard miles for the team allowing others to play. Probably only truly appreciated by his team mates.
  3. McHugh for me. Organised the defence very well. Centre half is by far his best position. He reads the game so much better when everythings in front of him. Id go as far as saying he is our best centre half at the moment. Gillespie did well and looks a solid replacement for Carson but other than the penalty save, which was excellent, he didnt have a lot to do. Could just as easily given it to Johnson on those grounds.
  4. Gillespie Grimshaw Aldred Hartley Tait Rose McHugh Turnbull Campbell Gorrin Main Set out hard to beat. Try sneak one on break or at set plays. Still enough legs AND footballers to try and support Main.
  5. Turnbull looks like he has been playing in the first team for years. He cruised through the game yesterday against a decent Aberdeen side. His composure on the ball and natural athleticism put any comparison with Ross Forbes to bed.
  6. No failures today at all. Every single player played their part. Main had his best game of the season. Johnson was excellent and weighed in with 2 goals. Turnbull just oozes class, he has incredible composure on the ball. The defence were pretty solid for the most part and Gillespie looked assured enough in goals. MoM for me though was Grimshaw. Great energy going forward and more importantly covering back. Crashed into some meaty tackles and made good use of the ball whenever he had it. His run at the end to get us up the park and see the game out with a clean sheet just typified his performance.
  7. Craig Thomson. Stamped his influence all over the game. Match winning performance.
  8. I was going to ask a similar thing. Of all the injured players listed on the club website, he is the only one with no description of the type of injury against his name and no paragraph further down with further information. Suggests there might be something else going on in the background?
  9. I think this is the main area where the finger can be pointed fairly and squarely at the manager. A club of our size is never going to have a lot of cash to throw around. Even after a relatively successful season. Its obviously very important then, that there is a structured signing policy targetted at improving the week areas of the team and improving quality/competition. That doesnt appear to have happened and from the the outside, some of the signings appear baffling. I get that in the market we operate, not all signings will work. I also get that some signings will be made for development purposes with a view to finding another Moult or Kipre. However, none of our signings can be argued to have improved our squad at this stage and that leaves the manager in a bind of his own making.
  10. The manager doesnt have to be replaced....yet. However, he must show a willingness to accept what he is doing just now isnt working. He must change either the system or the personnel. Preferably both. He also needs a decent return from the next 2 games as our December fixtures look horrendous. If he isnt able to improve our position through November then it will be time to get someone new in place in advance of the winter break to give a new manager a chance to effect some change.
  11. Another disappointing performance and result. Given that this is predominantly the same team that got us to 2 cup finals playing top flight opponents in every round last season, the drop in performance levels is alarming. Our shape is terrible. As others have said 3-5-2 needs to go. We need a system that allows us to play players in their natural positions and allow us to get some of our younger players with legs into the team. Id go with something like Carson Tait Aldred McHugh Dunne Rose Cadden Campbell Turnbull Frear Johnson I was prepared to give the manager time to turn this around as he has had a lot to contend with due to injuries, suspensions and the sale of Kipre. However, we are halfway through a run of games we needed to capitalise on to get us out the mire and we have 1 point from 6. The same return in the next 2 games will, Im afraid, give the board a decision to make.
  12. Dunne made a decent return but faded towards end as you would imagine. Carson was solid enough. I kinda agree with Yorkyred re Bowman. He did nothing spectacular, but you always get a shift from him. He put himself about and at least tried to hold the ball up to allow the midfield to close the gap between them and the front two. Without him there would be no link up play. Campbell and Turnbull were the 2 best performers. I went for Turnbull purely because we are crying out for someone with his composure on the ball to improve us as a team.
  13. Frustrating player at times but gave us some great moments in a very good Motherwell team. Needless to say he would walk into the current side. Sad to hear the injury has got the better of him. Wish him all the best with whatever the future holds.
  14. So Steve Clarkes target for Kilmarnock this season is to keep Kilmarnock in the league? Should he be pilloried for lack of ambition like our manager when he stated the same thing? Discuss.......
  15. First time Ive gone for null vote. 2nd half was just awful.
  16. Motherwell v Rangers 26/8/2018 Was a fantastic game of football. The man you blame was in charge.
  17. I was pretty happy with my lot last year. Yes the football wasnt always the prettiest but nowhere near as bad as some made out. 2 cup finals and just missing out on top 6 seemed like pretty good progress from the year before. If Im really honest, I am disappointed we havent kicked on this season and built on last years success. There are reasons for that of course, losing Cedric was always going to hurt and injuries to Dunne, Tanner and Bowman havent helped our start. Main has been carrying an injury and Caddens form has dropped right off. My biggest disappointment is that other than Aldred, who isnt really new, and Johnson, who has shown some promise, none of the signings seem to have made any impact. Gillespie seems a decent back up and may eventually replace Carson. ATS, I think was signed as the left wing back we were needing, but for whatever reason hasnt shown enough to be picked. Donnelly and Mbulu are both young and probably signed as development players who might make us money in the future. Gorrin was clearly signed as a replacement for Bigi who has ended up staying so hasnt really had a chance. Sammon is the one signing that I cant fathom. With Main, Bowman and Johnson and Newell all on the books I just didnt see the need for him. I dont think he is absolute shite but we have 2 players who can play his role better. We dont know how much of last years money the manager got to spend. You can bet it was a relatively small proportion of what we made as we have to take these opportunities to pay down the debt. We also dont know who was available in our price range that wanted to come to us. That said, I would still have expected us to be able to see some improvement in the quality of the squad which hasnt really materialised as yet. Im not overly concerned with the results so far with the exception of Accies who we should have beaten, and some of our performances, particularly against Rangers have been good. Its a long season ahead and there is plenty time to improve. I still think Robbo is the right man for the job, albeit I think he has made mistakes in team selection and substitutions at times, but he is as good a manager as we are going to get and I think he buys into the ethos of the club and what we are about in terms of being a fanowned community club. Much rather have him than some of the usual suspects. There is plenty of room for improvement though, and now that we are out the cup he will have his work cut out keeping the baying wolves from the door.
  18. I see Las has hinted that Main has been carrying niggling injuries since the start of the season which together with choice of striking partners might explain his form. Hopefully he will make it tonight and be paired with Bowman, who for me has been the best foil for him since he arrived. Given the way the game is likely to be played tonight, Johnson from the bench could be a good option to have later in the game. Hopefully some more of the injury doubts will make it as well. Need as close to our first 11 as possible to have any chance tonight.
  19. What he said was he wants us to put balls into areas teams dont like to defend. That could be high balls. But it could also be balls in behind, down channels or cross balls. All of which we were pretty good at last season when everyone was fit. He never said we would stop trying to pass or keep possession so the headline is false and continues to play to the agenda that we are nothing more than a team of cluggers. Our squad has its shortcomings and limitations no doubt and you might agree with that assessment. However, imho, I think we have been and can be a bit more than that.
  20. Sammon is cup tied. The article states Bowman and Main likely to return. Also, in usual Record style the headline has only a passing resemblance to the actual quotes made.
  21. I find criticism of Cadden puzzling. We shout and clamour to get young players in the team (see Turnbull and Maguire) yet we pillory them when they dont perform? The guy is 22. He has over 100 appearances for Motherwell already and has been in both full and U21 international squads so he cant be as rubbish as some make out. He is not excempt from criticism and if the team was settled and playing well, I think he would be fair game. But to have a go at him in the current circumstances is imho unfair. This is a form slump. Not entirely unconnected to how he is being asked to play, the number of games he is playing and the general inconsistency of the team. He will come good again. I have no doubt about that.
  22. Great interview Andy! Easily the most impressive football administrator in the country. He may have his detractors on here but he talks a lot of sense and can genuinely see things from a fans perspective. I think the future of our club looks bright.
