Not a signing that has me salivating, but he has always looked good playing against us for County, so happy to wait and see what other business is done and where GA see's him fitting into the bigger picture.
-
That would be encouraging. Given that the majority are still under contract, it's hard to know what changes are possible. Hopefully a recognition that our goals against column last season cant be repeated. I note Darragh O'Connor has moved on. A couple out, a couple better quality in, hopefully supplemented with some better midfield options that will allow us to keep the ball and take some pressure off the defence.
-
Not a long term signing, but going into a European campaign, he would certainly add a level of quality and experience we dont currently have. Be surprised if he would take the drop in wages, but if you dont ask, you dont get.

Fair doo's. I still think Slattery is decent and would benefit from having a few players of at least similar ability around him. Whether we can manage that on our budget or not remains to be seen.
-
The big man would be wasted on them.......
-
Who in your opinion, are better?
-
I think there's a lot in that. Be interesting to see how Ojala and Sol look next season after a proper rest and a good pre season. The chopping and changing definitely doesnt help. Defenders need games together to develop an understanding and a consistency of performance. Hopefully we can get some of that next season.
-
Other than KVV who is very inconsistent, Slattery is the best footballer at the club....
-
Not often a player comes into a club from outwith the area and immediately "gets it". Grimmy was one of those guys and its sad to see him go, but he wasnt going ro get a lot of gametime moving forward, so he goes with our best wishes and he is welcome back anytime.
-
Certainly be my preference. Hopefully the lure of European Football will assist in that regard.
-
I hope the big man gets better offers than that. Id really hate to see him playing for them......
-
Spittal is certainly one that has caught the eye whe we have been playing County, but then so was Vigurs at the time and it never really worked out for him. I think it probably comes down to the character/personality of the player, but also whether their attributes tie in with the rest of the squad / tactics / playing style. Much of that will be down to GA and how he sees us playing next season.
-
People dont make decisions in isolation though, do they? Many people, myself included will be looking at the money they have to shell out for a season ticket right now and ask whether it is really something they can justify paying for at a time when finances are being stretched, particularly given that the entertainment on offer this season has been dire (which is a different argument as to whether 5th place is success.) I apologise if I have misread the intent of your post, maybe I jumped to conclusions based on your previous posting history. I never made it personal though, so maybe play the ball and not the man next time.......
-
What enjoyment do you get out of trolling fellow 'Well fans like that? Given the hardship a lot of people are feeling right now, this is a really shite post.

He certainly has the physical presence and hold up play to give us cover for KVV. Wouldnt be the worst decision. My main reservation would be that it would likely be on loan and you are then back in the realms of developing someone elses player. He is however a known quantity. Just depends if you favour that over making a permanent signing that may or may not work.
-
I wouldnt imagine he would be interested in the wages we could offer......
-
And that has been the connundrum all season....

Pretty fair assessment. I think in normal times a club our size should be trying to run with a squad of around 22 first team players and supplement from the youths when required. It allows for the best use of funds to attract as high a quality of player as possible. I think 3 new quality targetted signings would improve us more than the previous strategy of throwing shit at the wall and seeing what sticks. I think defensively if Lamie stays and with O'Connor and Johnston coming back, we have enough cover there so Id be looking to improve the midfield and up front. We could do with another player of Slatterys quality to supplement him in midfield and also cover for his inevitible suspensions. Whether thats possible remains to he seen. We definitely need another out and out striker. Probably more for cover for KVV as we dont really have anyone else with the physical presence he has to win headers and hold the ball up. The 3rd signing for me will depend on what happens with Lamie and how well we do with signings 1 & 2. Hopefully we can get our business done early and get the players in for our European adventure. Going to be an interesting close season.

Hard to beat a Grimmy maisy........
-
Sad to see Grimmy go. He understood our club and our community because he came from a very similar town / background. He came across as a thoroughly decent human being. He shared in some really good moments with the club, in particular the 2 cup finals in one season. Best wishes to him for whatever the future holds.

Thought this deserved a thread of its own..... Was really pleased for Keith last night that we managed to get the win that kept all the fans behind and in great spirits to give him the send of he deserved. You could see and hear it was a very emotional experience for him and his whole family. There can be a lot of cheap talk thrown around when it comes to football players about who is a club legend and who is not, but for me I dont think there can be any doubt that Keith falls into that category. For a player to spend almost his entire playing career at one club in the modern era is almost unheard of these days and for me, over the last 20 or so years Keith has been Mr Motherwell. Coming in as he did in the administration season with the likes of Hammel, Faddy, Pearo et al, he quickly grasped the ethos of our club and became very much part of the fabric of it. For someone who wasnt brought up Motherwell fan, the fact that he and his whole family now are, says a lot. During his time at the club we have enjoyed 4 Cup finals, 2 League Runners Up spots and 8 European qualifications, including playing in the Champions League. To be club captain for such a large part of that success, says lot about him. The fact that he is also a damn fine human being, means he will be sorely missed by many at the club, including the fans. Ultimately, all good things must end and he is off to further his career in a new role. I for one, wish him all the best and thank him for some wonderful memories. ALL THE BEST "KEEF"

Now we have 4th place in our hands, Id quite like to keep it. We need to match whatever United do at Dingwall, but their point last night means Ross County now have nothing to play for but pride, so I can see United taking something in that game. Celtic will be up for a title party, but we've crashed a few of those before, so who knows....

Deano had a very good game. He gives you everything he has every week. As a team you need someone with that drive and energy in the engine room. He also has sufficient quality to hold his own in there against most teams. He is still learning obviously, but I think we are getting to the stage where he has to be considered a first team regular, rather than a budding academy graduate.

Lamie all day long.....

Here's hoping Ross County do us a favour, or we stun the entire world by getting a result at Parkhead!
