Oh dear that is very sad news. Poor guy and his family.

Lol eh I can't say I share your confidence there. Have to say I don't think Sutton or Craigan had done much wrong in first half. That said can't argue with changes we were far better 2nd half than 1st. St.Johnstone were no great shakes though. I feel today whave not learned a great deal as to how our season will go. Lots of positives, quite a few negatives but all in a thrilling second half and if we add wins to that level of entertainment we'll be in for an interesting season. I have to disagree about whoever said O'Brien was out of sorts, was about only bright spot in first half and lively throughout. Question marks as usual over end product at times but looked decent I thought.
-
Team that started against Steaua would seem the way to go. Bit of a risk O'Brien at full back but what the hell lets be on the front foot tomorrow and we'll worry about a more solid right back in time for in theory sterner tests.
-
I had a feeling there would be one, but there always is.
-
Hmmm, not blown away certainly. Least it not luminous yellow I guess but not a patch on the home design.
-
Don't think anyone saying he already a legend, would need head examined if they did but people can and do get excited. Nothing wrong with it, if the bubble is horrendously burst then it'll be plenty of what we used to so may as well go along with the ride while it is good(as in nigh on untested at all) the manager is talking a good game, we got a few new faces(would like some more) and a few promising youngsters. We could finish 3rd we could finish last and opinions on the manager will change on a daily basis probably, enjoy the general positivity whilst it lasts.
-
Think Hammell got breathed on heavy at that, tripped yer arse.
-
Wonder if he missed him falling on his backside to let them in for the third goal?
-
Cautiously optimisitic at the moment. We do need some new faces though, another striker, and a right back at the minimum. I think as is we look strong enough to do ok but there is a big element of doubt as to how much we an expect week in week out from some of the younger players.
-
Malpas?
-
Don't think he at fault, watched it a few minutes ago and ok it dipped over him but was only a step or two off his line and the shot fair fizzed and swerved at pace. Wasn't a lazy loop and he caught out, just a belter of a hit.

There pen was a stonewaller. Reynolds got turned to easily and O'Brien was to rash trying to get in to cover and caught the lad. Eurosport highlights weren't great for showing our pen claims. The 2nd handball looked more convincing of the handball ones, thought the first definately hit the boys hand but was protecting face(still seen them given though) where as second think he flyly blocked effort with hand at side. However it wasn't a match turning incident at this point. Liked to have better look at Sutton tugging one, if it one eurosport seemed to show it was nothing in it, from posts on here I assumed it was another incident.
-
Was reasonably impressed with Reynolds there. That said though he was done a little easily just before the penalty which preceded O'Brien charging in. A lot of ifs and buts last night though.
-
Have to agree with that. What concerns me is that Jennings was the first of the new signings to arrive, why looking so unfit? Humphrey got few decent balls in last night, a bit better and lookd like might come on to something in time but for moment prefer to see O'Brien playing.
-
thought the ref was ok, would have said he had a good game if had had given one the two decent claims I thought we had. O'Briens challenge though was clumsy and clearly a penalty. We were pretty decent tonight though, if we had got the second goal I think we could have done it. Not to be though, Steaua showed the quality to be clinical despite not playing well. We shown some promise, hope Gannon gets a few more players in and we could have a right good season.
-
Surely Imrie the only one that is remotely plausible.
-
I half agree with you. I think Nevin did a piss poor job for us, getting value you money etc with his dealings and sure Boyle doesn't have infinate sources but I suspect Nevin was correct in saying that whilst it might have cost him another £3m or so he could have managed the situation without resorting to administration. Not saying after watching about £8m disappearing down the drain I'd be happy to see another £3m go myself regardless of how much I had left but could he have afforded us a softer landing without administration my guess is yes. But a guess is all it is.
-
Yeah it wasn't a case of McFadden signing and out of admin we popped but it was directly linked. Suddenly we had a bit of cash to make some sort of offer and after period of time it all progressed through and we were back in relatively good health. Yeah there would have been something of a firesale, daresay we'd have gotten half what they were worth at best as well. So certainly we dodged a bullet, we might well still be down in the lower leagues if that had been the case.
-
I couldn't say, I assume we could have cut our cloth to meet ends meet and survived. Seems quite a while ago now but it certainly would have been a serious blow. We were still in administration at the time if memory is right. If someone could confirm we didn't come out of admin until after the sale of McFadden in early part of the following season?

Aye well we all want the team to be better. When we had McCormack, Porter and Clarkson up front they all banged in a good few goals but we'd all have sold our granny to get rid of any one of them if we could have had someone who could play like Torres in his place. I'm sure the day our manager sees a defender that fits that description and he rates good enough to do better than current players if we can afford him he'll sign him up soon as he can.

I'll try and keep it brief but the only danger to Motherwell was John Boyle. He came in and sanctioned spending beyond our means. Don't get me wrong when someone supposedly worth approx £100m came in with big plans and a willingness to splash the cash I was as excited as anyone. As a successful businessman I had high hopes that he was going to transform the club into the 3rd force he talked about. Not immediately but with more money and a good manager at the helm think we all hoped to see a good team on the park and with Boyle's business savy maybe the club could grow despite the restraints of its location so close to Rangers and Celtic. So we spent a lot of money and the success never quite came, Boyle started to cut back we sold some players but we were still losing money and we reached a point where Boyle wasn't willing to lose more and we called in the administrators. The vast majority of the money the club owed was to John Boyle, now it not that I not grateful but I do believe very much that a football club belongs to the fans and that any owner is only a custodian of something that belongs to us all so I think he had a moral if not legal obligation to wave any debts that he incurred. So how much danger were we in? I don't have access to Boyle's bank details but I suspect not very much unless Boyle himself was in danger of over extending his wider empire and losing it all. So we seem to be pretty much back to where we were pre Boyle, a small club that tries to live within its means. No real damage done from the misadventure other than to our reputation. That said I suspect there were some real losers in the whole affair but things could have been a lot worse if it wasn't for Falkirks stadium problems. Who knows, Boyle seems to be looking after the club in a fairly responsible fashion more or less now but the day to judge his legacy is for after he has moved on.

Is he a kiddy fiddler or something? I despised us signing Bob Malcolm but however big a knob end Imrie may or may not be he hasn't to my knowledge publicaly disgraced himself to the point that it reflects badly on us his signing. End of the day, you can return your season ticket and all you done is waste a couple hundred bucks and achieved nothing. Individual players come and go and are not the reason you support a club. I know you commented on him before, based on personal experience but who loses out more from that action you or him? I give you a clue it aint him.* *Less of course we have a honking season and you get to avoid it, which case be grateful to him for signing as you maybe lucked out.
-
Be stunned if we accepted anything other than a ridiculous bid. Murphy far from set his first team place in stone but shown some promise and we have a dearth of forwards atthe minute. I'd expect any bid from Accies to be swiftly refused.
-
Feel free to list them all if you so sure. I'd maintain it no more than 7 but I perhaps I forgotten a few.

And they weren't ever half as ganting as us at our worst. There 94 team missed out on qualification by a bawhair, Houllier famously blaming Ginola for cheap loss of possession that allowed a very good Bulgarian team to pip them. Also don't think you can blame whatever long term plan they had for them missing out short term. They were probably a bit embarrassed at us and Yugoslavia knocking them out in 90, but again they still weren't shabby and Yugoslavia were quality.
