I do see that and also agree with the points about how juvenile it comes across and lacking imagination. However in the context of a football match I can't get to worked up about it, the chant is patently ridiculous and can't be taken very seriously. It is also presumambly clearly designed to be as offensive as can be imagined and to get up McGhees nose, which seemingly it did. So in a sense without much subtlety a la ronseal does what it says on the tin. That said I'd hope those that chose to sing it take on board some of the thoughts of fellow fans who found it offensive and stick to other chants in the future. Don't really give a toss about what the red tops misreport anyway but we don't quite so much petty bickering amongst ourselves and I also suspect that even if it not something actionable against the club just now if it were to continue in the future at a noticeable level it could eventually come back to cause problems. It certainly already probably dented our fair play chances! :-)

Dreadful gay bashing, I know McGhee lives in Brighton but no need to tar the homosexual community by comparing them to McGhee.

Best not let them attend school then, should hear the stuff I heard there as a kid!

lol aye who is voting based on radio commentry? Particularly given how poor likes of Scott Davie tend to be?
-
We may have been pish in the 2nd half but according to beeb stats Aberdeen didn't manage a shot on target the whole game. Mind you says we only had one, whit a thriller that must have been!

I hate listening on the radio. whistle please!

Bit early to make bold statements about Gannon's loyalty. If we have a storming season and he turns down a big move then batter in. Would love to see it.

Andy Ross is an active poster here and John Wilson runs FirParkCorner website, posts as Jwok so those two are easily contactable. I'd expect Andy Ross will see this thread sooner or later.

Well taking an impartial view, advising them to hold out to see what else is on offer is what you'd expect. There is precious little loyalty in football from players to clubs and indeed other way around. If a young player is making an impact here they well within there rights to look for a bit more money if they think they are worth it. How often do players ever accept the first offer? Hopefully after a bit of negociation we'll make fair but not silly offers and they see the sense in the grounding they can get here, sign on and everyone is happy.

Think I said this elsewhere but I thought Jennings came on and looked pretty decent on saturday. Considerably sharper than previous appearances. Optimisitic now he'll bring something to the table once he settled in and match fit. Humphrey I think is likely to be a source of frustration, but seems to be able to hit a decent cross and has pace, worth persevering with for a while to see if he can do more with bit of coaching, experience and time to adjust to SPL. Coke looks excellent and Hately looks at least worth to be a place in the squad showed up reasonably well at full back and in midfield role. Ruddy I think always more good than bad.

It generally better to either share what you supposedly heard or not even allude to it, lest you risk looking like a bit of a twat for giving it the, "I know something you dunno," style pish. Your call.

It might well be shite, but he 17 not 27 or 37 with a whole lot of life experience to fall back on. 17 year olds are not renowned for mature and thoughtful decision making.

I think all the young lads coming through would be better served signing up at Fir Park. Ample opportunity to break into the team and make a name for themselves before moving onto bigger things if their talent is great enough. That said any time bigger clubs come sniffing after you it is a difficult decision to say no. It usually means bigger money and there are no guarantees in football. Your career can be ended at any moment by a bad a tackle or freak accident. Medical science much improved but a couple of serious injuries around 17/18 and before you know it you could be out flailing around the lower leagues just trying to stay in the game. As for ambition, I wouldn't slate anyone for moving up. I am sure they are aware of the risk of being the next Willo Flood but if you have belief in your ability you are going to convince yourself it not going to be you. Barry Robson could easily have disappeared at Celtic but he had the tencacity to fight for his place and was a fixture in the team. Slane if it is indeed he having his head turned will no doubt be thinking he is or can be least as good and Maloney/McGeady and get in the team. And in this era of Scottish fitba they don't hold on to their best players all that long usually either, spaces open up. As a club it seems a bit mad to me that Slane wasn't signed up on a longer term contract 12 months ago when he made a reasonable impression in pre season. Ok so at 16 there no guarantees but he clearly had talent. A 3 year deal should have been fired at him then and there, not big money but enough to a 16 year not yet in the team to be happy with. If his career stalled and went no where well that is part of the game. Likes of Forbes, something of a late bloomer with us seemingly or just strangely overlooked who knows but whilst it to early to say if he going to carve out a career at the top of the game he shown he has a touch of real quality. Again we should be offering him a decent contract and hoping we get the benefit of his talent for a few seasons at least. It incredibly hard for a club of our limited means to hold onto quality players for very long and with younger players there is the balance between tieing them down and overburdening yourself with dead weight but that is just one of many things managers are judged on, ability to spot talent. I do hope we get Coke, Slane, Forbes, Hutchison, O'Brien on new contracts as it would be quite a sore loss to see them come through and disappear in the space of a season.

Don't go to many now but probably away games. More of a day out, fans tend to more behind the team. Downside is the expense obviously. Atmosphere at Fir Park isn't great, certainly isn't what it was back in the day when we had terracing. Not that anywhere really is.

Jennings did nothing wrong today, thought he did quite well and first I saw him where I thought there is potential there. Happy to tongue in cheek slate him before he come on from for his early appearnaces so far but looked much sharper today. Humphrey does look very raw and a bit lost today. I fear for him if he doesn't pull out a better performance soon before the fans really get on his back, a few groans and comments today but whilst we're winning it probably took quite a bit of heat from the criticism he'll get if he plays like that when it much more in the balance.

Fagan is exscaping because less than stellar player that he was there have been many many more worse. Also harsh chucking in Shannon from someone. He was a decent enough player for us, just so happened he was considerably outshone by the rest of the team of that era, Steve Woods aside.
-
I have to agree with those concerned about Kyle. There does seem to be something of an inevitability about him scoring. If we can keep to the one lapse I optimistic we can come away with the 3 points. Would like to see Slane and Lasley fit. Not necesarily to start but as options. I been unimpressed with Jennings thus far and whilst still tag on the usual to early judge plamf. I'd like to see Lasley available, he not a world beater but reliable and will graft away and dig in.

Did men feel naked walking around without a hat on in those days? Not a care in the world about hat hair obviously!

Just to continue the Kampman revisionism whilst I feeling generous. You could aruge that he brought in only what he could afford. Chapman fantastic a chairman as he was in his time was running a very tight ship to make the place look a healthy purchase for whoever was going to come in and if Boyle when he took over had allowed Kampman the access to funds Billy Davies got might well have gone on to better things. Guess we'll never know, the harsh facts were that Kampman got rid of a few players, most of whom probably needed moving on and brought in a bunch that weren't any better and probably worse.

Proven record in SPL, would take him in a second. Is certainly well out the picture at Sunderland and didn't set heather on fire in loan spells to championship clubs. Never know.
-
His next game is a big one then. Clean sheet and some big saves to give the manager a dilemma. I do find it quite funny that he ended up in league one as his big move but hope he does well, decent keeper and certainly one of our better players last season.
-
To meet the stringent standards of Record or the Sun, eh aye would think most after a few goes would manage it. After they learned to dumb down enough obviously.

I know what you mean. I'll enjoy that 4-4 thriller but it won't mean a whole lot to me. Where as a the Motherwell 1-0 will. But I think everyone involved in football has a certain responsibility to make it worth watching. Some more so than others, but it skill and goals and so on that get us excited. So much more so when it in a claret and amber jersey. You might be able to live on bread and water but it doesn't make for a great dinner. And for the 15th meal in a row you start thinking that not eating isn't such a bad thing. I'd not be happy if Motherwell played easy on the eye football and went down. I'd even more unhappy if we were diabolical to watch and still went down. If we are grim to watch and win something I'll be delighted but I'd take so much more joy in it if we are good to watch and do so. None of these ends are results we can pick anyway but we have to strive for better than mediocrity or what is the point?

Indeed when you go out with the mindset of win at all costs and try and stifle the game then it is the death of football. As a fan if the game turns out dire I'm not going to complain if we win the game 1-0 through a sclaffed shout that bounces of Suttons backside and in. That isn't likely to go your way week in week out though. Where as is if you are brave enough to go out and play a style that is entertaining at least when things do go against you might at least have had some entertainment out of it. People are more likely to want to come back. Saturdays game there for instance, if we play like we did in the first half we'll all be trooping in through the gates with apathy at another afternoon of flat uninspiring footbal. That definately includes Frazzle, I stand close enough to you most weeks to see what you were like under Malpas and McGhee at times last season. Fun sooked right out of it. Where as if we play more like the 2nd half display, win lose or draw you'll be back with a bit of hope and expectation looking forward to the games. We're always happy to take awin however it comes but how you at least try to go about it makes the world of difference.

I also enjoyed the many highpoints of that season, but lets not carried away. Our enjoyment of that often grim season was linked with the whole administration issue. The fact that we were just relieved to have a club at all to support and were fighting against the odds. The fact that at times we could play some good football certainly helped keep us going but ultimately week in week out we were poor and ended up bottom. A certain fondness though I have for that season it is one I hope not to see repeated for many reasons. All that said I do agree it is an entertainment industry and though results are crucial I'd rather watch good football than dour grinding out winning football. If we play good stuff we should do alright anyway and sure come the last quarter of a season if we in a sticky patch by all means do whatever it takes to survive but I want to see teams throughout the SPL go out with the emphasis of entertaining the people there to watch first and foremost.
