  1. Agree about the 75%. Maybe scope to move on another couple? Just how many new players we actually bring in I don't know.
  2. In terms of the short term aim of avoiding relegation I don't it know it would have mattered whether Killie appointed Wright or Alexander. Both were capable of keeping them up. Both squads were poor with dressing room issues. In our case an horrific injury list made things even worse. The critical factor was not so much which one took over but WHEN they took over. In our case GA took over early in the transfer window and had time to make a few signings, quite a few of which didn't work out admittedly (Kelly, Roberts and, to a lesser extent, Magloire did). Wright took over after the window closed although he did sign Lafferty in a desperate last throw of the dice. Had Stepehn Robinson stayed on much longer, we would have been in much greater danger of going down.
  3. It might well be that Charles Dunne has not been offered a new deal. GA has had no opportunity to assess him in action. He has probably just been invited to take part in pre season to get him fit. As I alluded to earlier there maybe players under contract that GA doesn't fancy and will try to move on. Still a few issues to be teased out and resolved.
  4. No doubt new boys, Dundee, will have cash to burn on new recruits.
  5. I assume that Fox and Dunne are in the category of having been "invited back for pre season training"? As others have observed its quite a cull. Not unexpected.
  6. One or two questions remain unanswered. The goalkeeping position is still very unclear. Its also possible that one or two players still under contract might be moved on if GA doesn't fancy them and they can find a new club.
  7. Yes, an important win that takes us up to 6th spot.
  8. From several sources. An ex work colleague of mine was a friend of Tom Wright; articles from the Dundee Courier; and last but least reliable, posts from P & B when I used to visit that site.
  9. I don't know for sure but based on comments from the club I'd guess 8th, 9th or 10th?
  10. St Johnstone's playing budget is "top 6" and has been for some years. Yes, its behind the likes of Aberdeen, Dundee United and Hibs, but its possibly the highest of the rest. Its not thousands above our average salary but it is a bit.
  11. Thats the foundation of their success. Exciting football? No way, but ask any St Johnstone fan tonight if they care a jot.
  12. Yes, a morale boost to us as a club as it shows what can be achieved on a limited budget. OK, I accept that their playing budget is a bit more geenrous than ours. Their "exceptional team of this season contains no John Ruddy, no Cedric Kipre, no David Turnbull, and no Louis Moult. It contains a good mix of journeymen who are very competitive, can play well together as team, are solid and make very few mistakes. There's no brilliance in the team just solid no nonsense football. As Spiderpig says though, they also enjoyed a fair measure of luck and that shouldn't be underestimated.
  13. Agreed. Cue, Celtic issuing a statement saying its an insulting/derisory/demeaning (delete as appropriate) offer and he's worth at the very least, double that.
  14. Or, as the media would say, Patterson will have competition from O'Donnell.
  15. I know OTF's posting style isn't to some people's liking but its time to lay off him; thats as may be. These boards should be all about different views and opinions and he posts something very different and interesting, in my opinion. Yes, a bit cryptic at times, but there's a good reason for that I'm sure. He's usually on the money with any "rumours", as many acknowledge. Keep on posting OTF.
  16. The best Well team I've seen was the onev of the mid 70s. Guys like Watson, Millar, McVie, McClaren, Davidson, Marinello Graham and Pettigrew. That team had everything but won nothing.
  17. By no means impossible, but he's a bit on the small side for Hibs. They like their keepers to be 6'3" +
  18. Why would anyone knowingly post a fake news tweet? I don't find it funny and just don't get it.
  19. Sounds as though GA is going down the St Johnstone route. I 'm not yet sure about him but yes, this is the way to go for a mid sized Premiership club like us. If we can build a solid no nonsense team that makes very few errors and fights as a team then that will guarantee us safety from relegation and a mid table place at worst. Add a bit of quality from Academy graduates then you have a realistic chance of siilverware. Will that be attractive to watch? I very much doubt it but I don't hear many St Johnstone fans complaining. I admit we can't compete with St Johnstone on the salaries front. Did our fans complain about our thunderdome style when we reached 2 cup finals? I rest my case.
  20. If anyone wishes to make a donation directly to the football club itself, you can do so by contacting Fir Park for details.
  21. No way should Dean Cornelius or Max Johnston be allowed to move on. They're due their chance. Otherwise, however, your list is on the short side. Add to that, MacIver, Lamie (if he can find a club), O'Hara (if he can be moved on), Polworth, Semple, and Seedorf. Moving on "in contract " players isn't easy though.
  22. We also need to sign 2 first pick central defenders. Will we? I doubt it.
  23. Of the 13 players who took the field today (status excepted) , ideally I'd only want retain 5 or maybe 6 at a push: Kelly, O'Donnell, maybe Foley, Cole, McGinley and Watt. That assessment is based on this season , not today's game. Will we have a clearout? I very much doubt it due to contractual reasons.
