  1. Not sure about that Grizzly. Gordon started out with Hearts. Clark was with Accies and Tanser came from Rochdale.
  2. That result gives us all hope. It just goes to show what a team comprised solid, experienced mentally tough individuals can achieve if they're well organised and hard working.
  3. Like others, I'm not convinced that Carson will fully recover from his injuries and thats a concern. I'd sign Kelly permanently in a minute but thats unlikely I'd think. A very good keeper but he's not the best in the air. If we were to retain him we'd need 2 big dominant central defenders; we'll probably need them anyway. We've lost a worrying amount of goals from, and conceded chances to headers all season; as we can see from the last 3 games against Morton, Accies and Hibs. That needs to change. Midfield needs an overhaul. Hopefully Donnelly will return and add stability to the defensive midfield. I don't think we'll miss Alan Campbell as much as many think. A great work ethic and attitude but he's not had a great season; better than other midfielders admittedly, but thats faint praise.
  4. This. In our last 2 cup ties we've been denied a stonewall penalty and conceded a wrongly awarded goal. I'm not saying these decisions cost us wins over 90 minutes but they certainly didn't help. To win the cup you have to have an element of luck on your side and in that respect we failed miserably. I just want this season done and dusted now but don't want it to end with a whimper against sides fighting for their lives.
  5. Imagine the meltdown if the same move had seen us knock Hibs out.
  6. No real surprise that Hibs scored. We simply don't have the quality in midfield or defence to soak up that kind of pressure.
  7. I presume our line up this afternoon will be a 5-3-2 or something similar?
  8. I wasn't going to post but here goes...... Totally agree Denny. The establishment, politicians and media would fall over themselves to support Sevco and Celtic second teams remaining in Scotland.
  9. You'd imagine, now that we're mathematically safe, that season ticket details will be released shortly.
  10. Not sure what to expect this summer in terms of a rebuild; certainly it'll be a big test for GA. I'm not expecting hordes of new arrivals as we need to trim the squad. Some of the bad influences will move on, and that'll help. However, I do hope we increase quality, if only slightly. The Coronavirus situation is now improving too, and that may make it slightly easier to tempt players from England or elsewhere. The status of players like Crawford and Mugabi will be a litmus paper as to where we're at. Will they be squad players or nailed on starters?
  11. Good post Yorky. Now that we're safe I'd like to see us change our approach for the remaining 3 league games. I get that there's a bit of cash up for grabs for finishing 7th or 8th and we mustn't ignore that. However now that Graham Alexander has achieved his first objective, I hope he changes things a bit and gives game time to a youngster or two. For me that's his next objective developing young players in line with our business model.
  12. Yes, Odoffin should have opened the scoring then. He was completely unmarked. We did the business but it was far from a perfect performance, especially against 10 men. It speaks volumes for Alexander's opinion of his team that he felt he had to shut up shop, in such a way, in the second half. He may also have thought that as Long was on a yellow card he didn't want to risk losing him to a red. After Long's departure I just wonder how GA would have reacted if Accies had equalised or even taken the lead. That second half set up was reminiscent of a Tommy MacLean team of the mid 80s or a Jim MacLean Dundee United side of the same era.
  13. I know nothing of Dutch football. Do you know what attendances are like there? Do they achieve full houses?
  14. Hopefully we kick on and score another to put this game to bed. Accies seem to be hell bent on putting the boot in. Short sighted though as we are still to play their close rivals and any serious injuries to our lads would only serve to benefit Killie and County.
  15. Agree 100%. If it isn't binned after restrictions are lifted, then even some home fans will stay at home to watch games from the comfort of their armchairs.
  16. Whilst thats true, its also true that he'll be up against a far higher calibre of opponent too. A Championship club will also have far higher standards off the field than he's used to here.
  17. Did he not join us from Ipswich? A defender if I recall rightly.
  18. Is there a need to freshen things up on Wednesday, given last night's marathon and injury to Campbell, which hopefully isn't too bad? Hastie, Carroll, Mugabi, O'Hara, Foley and even Dunne could all come in to a greater or lesser extent. Not a game for youngsters?
  19. I agree with others that 4-3-3 formation doesn't suit us, with the players we currently have. In the short term, if we persist with this style, then Hastie must come back in, until the end of the season, or until Watt or Roberts return, however unlikely that is. The midfield lacks creativity and pace, as Morton knewfull well last night. I understand why we resorted to the long ball last night but that doesn't make it right. A catch 22 situation. Our defenders were launching long balls because the midfield were incapable of creating anything on the deck. We don't have the players to play the long ball though and Lawless is no target man. For a long spell early on last night we were effectively playing with 8 men as the front 3 were seeing so little of the ball.
  20. Yes Allan. If we go 4-3-3 that would be my choice of strikers. We need to put tonight behind us and treat this game afresh.
  21. All the best Yorky. Good luck.
  22. Let's hope Campbell and Watt make it. If both Watt and Roberts miss out that'll be a huge handicap.
  23. Whether we deserved to win or not we're through as Spiderpig said. Thats the bottom line. Morton do deserve a lot of credit but boy did they get a huge slice of luck with penalty decision. Its by no means certain we'd have scored from it, if given, but we might have done. That could have decided the game. In short they got out of jail free. They should have no complaints, although going out on penalties is never good.
