I don't know that he did, although the referee certainly saw it. If you cast your mind back a few weeks Barry Maguire was carded for a very similar foul. Again this just goes to illustrate the level of inconsistency in referees.

Couldn't agree more about opposition wingers. Why make life unnecessarily difficult for ourselves? The only question for me is on which wing we should deploy Grimshaw. Not the most gifted player in the world but he has a bit of character about him. Probably down to Saints' personnel and tactics and who we think needs most cover between O'Donnell and McGinley.

Far more to it than that - see comments above. To add my tuppence worth. Goal 1: The Hibs player on our right flank is completely uncovered and is allowed to send over his cross unimpeded. The ball should never have reached its target. No-one covers Boyle. Goal 2: There is no midfield cover on the edge of our box and no-one is covering Doidge on the edge of our box. Goal 3: No-one covers McGinn's run from midfield. What is O'Hara doing? McGinley makes a mess of it agreed. There are question marks over a number of players, not just McGinley. Our defensive midfield is very poor just now and teams can run unimpeded into our box at will. Looking back to the St Johnstone game a week ago, we had to work damned hard to get anywhere near their penalty box. We have been badly hit by injuries to defensive players and thats had a huge impact, but we need to drop Mugabi as he's causing problems for others. O'Hara is not doing his job in shielding the defence and Allan Campbell whilst putting in a power of work, needs to be more defensively aware. Revert to 4-4-2 for next week, dropping a striker and Mugabi, and bringing in Maguire and another midfielder. For whatever reason we seem to be completely disorganised at the back when decent teams attack us. Not sure why? Is it because players are not playing to instructions or that they aren't being coached or the system is wrong?

Agree with much of that Iain. Our set pieces, especially corners have been very poor this season. It does look to be a bad mistake by Andrew Dallas and that could have affected the course of the game, although Hibs would, in all likelihood still have won comfortably. In his post match comments, he mentions a lack of "nastiness" and "devilment" and hints that we're too soft. We are a bit naive and thats been shown up tiome and again this season. The team doesn't seem to have an overall character this term. There's no physicality, no thunderdome football but there's no expansive open flowing football either. Next Saturday is a big game and it won't be easy, as our last 2 results against the Buddies at Fir Park have shown. For this game I'd like to see changes in formation and personnel so that we give ourselves a fighting chance at kick off.

Certainly some of strikers aren't good enough but in fairness to them the service from midfield has been either very poor or totally lacking.

We need to calm down this evening. Our season will not turn on a 3-0 thumping from Hibs. They're sitting 3rd and deservedly so. Disappointing certainly that another team didn't need to work hard for their goals and outmuscled us. I'm confident some off the field changes would improve matters through a change in formation and personnel. Again we were caught out by playing a narrow 3 in midfield but if you make the same mistakes each week you can't expect a different outcome. A simple change at the back by dropping Mugabi and moving O'Hara back will help. St Mirren is a more winnable game.....if we learn our lessons from today and last week.

Midfield hasn't played well in the past couple of games granted but its the formation that at the root cause of our problem there.

Schoolboy defending yet again.
-
Does anyone know the numbers of players at Kilmarnock and St Mirren who: - had tested positive for coronavirus - had to self isolate - were injured prior to these games being cancelled?
-
I agree with most comments about the defence, but would not go 4-3-3. I don't think we have the players for it and its no use having 3 strikers if you can't provide them with decent service. Even moreso when Cole and White have both been ruled out. Its also putting the 2 full backs, and indeed the whole defence, under additional and unnecessary pressure.
-
Another benefit for us is that we’ll avoid fixture congestion in the future.

Winning 2 games in a single day, scoring 6 and keeping 2 clean sheets! When did we last play 2 games on one day - late 19th century? Seriously, a just outcome. Neither club can complain as the failures were systemic not down to individuals acting irresponsibly alone. This is a serious disease and the clubs should have known better. Pleased though that the fines have been suspended - club finances just now don't need further losses. Appeal(s) forthcoming though? Hopefully not; lets hope thats an end to this saga. Ironic isn't it that Killie forfeited the game 3-0 after what happened in the ladies game about 2 0r 3 years ago. Didn't see this result coming!

1st December at 1900 hrs and counting.

A lot will depend on whether Campbell and may be Maguire are fit and able to play. That aside, I'd revert to a 4-4-2 to give us a bit more width and give the hitherto exposed full backs much needed cover and protection. If we are able to, drop O'Hara back into central defence, bring back McGinley and put Grimmy in at left midfield. Mugabi is ok in a back 3 or 5 but not in a back 4. Two strikers from Cole, Watt and Lang. We don't have the pacy wide players need for 4-3-3. The ramblings of an armchair football manager!
-
Don't forget that McGinley is primarily a central defender.
-
Sorry to hear about that. I wasn’t impressed by him as a player but that’s sad news.

Well, its almost the end of the month and St Mirren and Kilmarnock ought to receive the panel's findings by midnight, at the very latest. I just wonder if these 2 episodes will be quietly dropped for fear of tarnishing Scottish football's case for the return of fans. Both Killie and St Mirren will have wheeled out heavy artillery, in the shape of QC's who don't come cheap, to fight their corner.
-
It did, although I'm not Grimmy's biggest fan. However even a decent left back would have struggled yesterday with our 4-3-3 set up, with absolutely no cover in midfield. O'Halloran at right wing back ruled our left wing and I'm totally surprised that we weren't aware of this danger beforehand. Surely we'd done our homework on St Johnstone in the past week? Its as if they were a totally unknown quantity from Kazakhstan and we'd never faced them before. Even at that, changes should have been made during the game when it became crystal clear what was happening. I'm sticking by Robbo but it was a major error of judgement. Interesting comments on P & B, which I largely agree with. We have a very good first pick 11 when they are all fit, but the fringe players are letting us down big time. Robbo has acknowledged that and I would hope that most of them are shipped out at the first opportunity; easier said than done though. Right now, and probably even moreso in the medium term, midfield is a huge problem for us, defensively and offensively. Polworth is too lightweight and hides when the going gets tough, O'Hara is not a defensive midfielder, the jury is still out on Crawfiord, and Campbell will likely be leaving in the not too distant future. Donnelly is out until next year and Maguire is still finding his feet.
-
Alex Spark? Tony Straker is like Maradona compared to him. He still gives me nightmares.
-
I agree about McGinley, but would revert to a 4-4-2 formation with Grimshaw playing out wide and in front of him. Hopefully Campbell will be back along with Maguire, and if so, O'Hara should revert to central defence, where he is a far better player than he is in midfield.
-
Even when or more probably if, we get back to full strength this season there are still big questions to answer. Who should partner Gallagher in central defence? Who takes over from O'Donnell at RB? Can anyone play effectively on the wings? Who provides creativity in midfield? These questions also assume that Gallagher and Campbell see out the season with us. Currently I don't know our best 11 and neither does Robbo I suspect. We will always make mistakes in the transfer market but last summer seems worse than most years.
-
I don't think we're in a hole yet but yes our style is impotent. Most of that comes back to our midfield which badly lacks pace and the only 2 wingers we have, Hastie and Seedorf, are not up to it. Polworth is ok up to a point but often disappears when the going gets tough, as he did today. That then leaves set pieces and long high balls in the thunderdome style (I love that word). We don't have the players to play thunderdome football and Polworth's set pieces aren't great. So, in short, changes in personnel are required. Whether thats possible is an entirely different matter.

A very disappointing game today with few, if any positives. We were outthought, outfought and outplayed and can have no complaints about the result. We looked as though we knew nothing about St Johnstone or their players. We had no obvious gameplan and off the field mistakes cost us big time. We do not have the players to play 4-3-3 and should revert instead to 4-4-2. The 4-3-3- formation puts the defence and especially midfield at a disadvantage right from kick off. The midfield can't support the strikers and fails to shield the defence, especially down the wings. We didn't learn our lessons from last week and Saints were happy to target our weak side today. Quite why Robbo couldn't see that until it was too late is beyond me. The players also looked lethargic and not up for it. Personnel wise, we do have a long injury list but too many fringe players are being found out. I'm not sure why Lamie started ahead of McGinley (a central defender by the way). The former is an honest pro but out of his depth at this level and its doing him no favours to pick him and hang him out to dry most weeks, including today. Thats a management call. Our biggest problem today was midfield which lacked creativity and bite. Saints were happy to give us possession, when they wanted knowing we wouldn't create much. When they were attacking, our 3 midfielders sat too deep and couldn't protect our defence. They also had no pace. Polworth was anonymous and Crawford, although game, struggled to impose himelf at this level. In turn it meant that our strikers had to feed off scraps - either the build up was far, far too slow or we resorted to high punts up the park with the inevitable result. So, I wouldn't be too critical of the front 3. I feel a bit sorry for the defence as they should expect better cover from those in front. Lamie looks out of his depth and Mugabi gives me the fear. In fairness are either of them first picks with a fully fit squad? I' m also not convinced of Chapman in goal. Did we miss Allan Campbell? Undoubtedly yes. Would the result have been different had he played - no. All is not lost though IF, and its a big if, lessons are learnt for next week.
-
One benefit, maybe the only one, of our long injury list this season has been the opportunity to test out fringe players. Sadly most of them have failed to impress. Currently we can't compete with St Johnstone in terms of playing budget but we should have been capable of putting on a far better show today. In short we shot ourselves in the feet; note not foot.

No more than we deserve. Off the field mistakes are costing us today.
