Former Motherwell skipper Chris McCart has emerged as a shock contender for the Fir Park managerial vacancy caused by Craig Brown’s departure to Aberdeen. McCart is currently head of youth at Celtic, but is understood to have growing support within the Fir Park board room. He skippered the Steelmen to Scottish Cup glory and in his role as youth chief with the Lanarkshire club was responsible for moulding current first-team stars Jamie Murphy, Mark Reynolds and Steven Saunders. At this stage the most popular choices are Collins and Calderwood ,a good number want no one on the list and that's how I feel .When it comes to former or current players lack of experience is the problem, we need someone with a decent track record a bit of experience and some good contacts in the game .Calderwood fits the bill in all three but the idea of him or Collins even big Yogi as gaffer does nothing for me. Just put my trust in John Boyle .

Just for the record Hammerfist IS a Motherwell fan ,met him a few times and couldn't say a bad word against the guy.

10/10 for sticking up for Craig mate ,personally glad hes away but then I'm hard to please, at home watching Motherwell under Broon was like watching paint dry. Hope we get someone in who puts a bit of excitement back into watching the well. There is a fine line between ambition and recklessness e.g Dundee and a club like Motherwell who don't have the financial muscle other clubs have must live within there means. Thats not a lack of ambition its just common sense.

Be someone out of contract as we wont want to pay compensation , and I would bet on them gettin a contract till the end of the season.

I remember Broon in an interview being asked about working at Motherwell with no contract, his answer was that Walter Smith was working at Rangers without a contract because he was a Rangers man, and that he[broon] didn't need one because he was a MOTHERWELL MAN , or words to that effect.

Both Broon and Knox are gone its now official and although most seem dissapointed I for one am absolutely delighted.

But SunSport can reveal the Dons were last night still trying to lure the ex-Scotland boss to Pittodrie. Yet it's unlikely the 70-year-old will have a change of heart after committing his future to Well. Brown said: "We had a gut feeling staying at Motherwell was the right thing to do.
