    Lionel Ainsworth

In football manager fantasy land I'd offer him an incentive laden contract and hope it cost us a fortune. In reality, I don't see why we would offer him better terms than he's currently on, which I'm sure he could probably get elsewhere, but if he really likes it here it may not matter that much.
  2. Exactly, which is why it's hard to judge a new signing immediately. Are we taking a player with good stats out of a system that suits them, or have we spotted an otherwise underwhelming player who we think will flourish in our system?
  3. The best I can see us do with bowman is loaning him out. I think our model is going to generate more Clay's and blyth's than Johnson's and moult's. We're trying to find players with potential that no one else has noticed yet, and the only way to do that is to take a punt. We're at a level where if we have to compete with anyone for a signing we're probably going to lose, so we have to get in early. Another thing to consider is whether filling our bench with u20s is good for their development, if not, then its players like bowman and clay that are going to fill those spots.
  4. i assume that bowman's "celebration" is what Robinson is pissed off about? He did seem kind of upbeat about scoring a consolation goal in a shite game, but if that's the kind of thing that winds the manager up, interesting times lie ahead!
  5. In his post match interview on YouTube he specifically said he was going to try and move some players on, so have to assume that Blyth is on the way out at least.

I voted for McFadden, because I could, and I'll never get to do it again.
  7. Ok, so looking at a position at a time (with 2 new goalies a given), in defense we have: McManus, Heneghan, Hammel, tait, McMillan, Ferguson There's a decent chance Ben will be sold, and I don't know if Ferguson is likely to be kept, but the others are under contract. I don't know the nature of tait's injury, and if that could continue to niggle, but hammell is a cert to miss chunks of the season based on the last 2 years, and I'm sure that it's been mentioned that McManus misses a lot of training to protect his injuries. So it looks like we need a couple of center halves at least, with the likelihood that we'll be looking for them to cover the fullback positions when needed, or adapt to this 3 at the back deal if we continue with it. With robinsons supposed focus on organization and defense, I could see these positions addressed first, and it will be interesting to see if we go with experience or potential. Given what we've been like this year, we definitely need some pace here.
  8. If (unsubstantiated thing is true) { the club/board/manager/player/mascot should be fired, shot, hung drawn and quartered; } else{ Keep complaining about it as if it's true anyway; } If the club had an option to extend Moult, and they could have afforded it, they would have done it.
  9. No McDonald as per Robinson's interview today. Also mentioned that lee Lucas was injured, so now we know. Said we've made offers to players and has spoken to most of ours to tell them where they stand, with more discussions set for Monday.
  10. Don't want us to take the game lightly, but also don't want to risk an injury to Cadds or Ben. I want accies to go down mainly because of this project brave shite that they have a part in, and also because of that terrible plastic pitch, and I'm sure if Caley don't do the job the winner of Utd/Falkirk will.

But aye, Lionel goes with my best wishes. No one remembers the steady, unremarkable types (in fact our support particularly dislikes them) and his playoff performances will always be up there.

McCormack and Brian Kerr both had some belters, and Rob McKinnon had a few, but can't think of anyone who has more than a couple other than Lionel. We've had some screamers though, going back to Kirk, O'Neil, then Van Der Gaag in my time. I've seen some decent ones in the dvd's I have from the 80s, Brian McLaughlin maybe, but it was harder back then cos the balls were made of concrete and we played on swamps. Maybe a top 5 goals thingwy can pass the time in the summer.
  13. I may have exaggerated, but a few of the early group worked for/at the club in some capacity since, which is why I'm disappointed I haven't been the manager yet.
  14. Sums up the complaints about the guy that he's still referred to by his message board handle. I'll admit that I'm kind of disappointed that as a member of the founding group of this board, that I seem to be the only one who doesn't work for the club now. I don't know his remit, and I don't care to be honest. I don't know if he'd make my top 5 motherwell GMs/COOs, with some of the illustrious names we've had in there, but I assume he's done a good enough job for multiple bosses to keep him and promote him. I don't think it's his job to make us better at throw ins. As for the groundsman, he and his team have done an excellent job, and obviously the club has made the investment to hire him and support him so fair play to them.

    Lasley.

If lasley wants to continue playing, I think he could have a few more seasons at a lower level. Otherwise, I could see the situation mentioned above where craigan moves up to assistant, and lasley takes over the 20s. Is it possible he could combine that with playing part time elsewhere?

    Lasley.

He'll no doubt continue in a coaching capacity, assuming a better job doesn't come up.
  17. Lionel because I love him. And if you love something you let it go, and replace it with something more dependable on cheaper wages.
  18. Is Dylan Mackin on loan at alloa?
  19. Spiers is a wank in the Andy walker mould, says any old shite to get a reaction.
  20. Yep, sympathy signings and nostalgia signings need to stop. Not every ex player has to come back.
  21. Our best chance of doing well is to cobble together a decent first 11, hope they don't get injured or suspended, and supplement them with a bench of almost ready youngsters and "can do a job" types. This season we lost mchugh, McManus, Pearson, tait and hammell from the settled first 11 for large periods and as such have been totally shite. Robinson then took over with no scope to change the squad. So I'd say that between oldham and ourselves, Robbinson hasn't had the best circumstances to work with. He should be in a decent position to know who we need to recruit based on his overall time at the club, rather than someone who doesn't know the league recruiting 10 players over the summer to find out they can't cut it (a la Kampmann).
  22. He had a few games in the u20s, but if our previous model is anything to go by, the new goalie coach will be largely responsible for recruiting the new guy, and I doubt he's been here long enough to make an evaluation. I think our best route is probably loaning in a keeper again, and if that's the case it will probably be one of our last appointments of the summer since that seems to be how loans go.
  23. I don't think the length of his contract was announced. Someone on here mentioned 18 months. When he came up to help McGhee he said he had some opportunities lined up in the summer, but I don't know if the full time manager gig changed that or not.
  24. Personally, I'll be at ease once I find out his favourite dinosaur. It would be nice if he sent me an email or two as well. Unless this was a mutual short term deal, he'll be here next season assuming we stay up.
  25. Many of the friends will be people who would have paid in anyway, but hopefully the initiative brings in a few extra. We've beaten them twice, and they don't have much to play for, but I doubt that makes a huge difference the second the whistle blows as far as Killie's effort goes, but If we can nick the first goal I think we'll do what we need to do to hold on.
