It's possible that the fee or part of it will end up coming out of Irvine's pocket due to a reduced signing on fee. I haven't heard of this scenario before but it doesn't surprise me Celtic are the club involved.

If no one was willing to pay a fee they would probably have tried to loan him again to cover part of his wages. Celtic have treated him as an asset to make money out of rather than as young footballer trying to forge a career. When clubs decide they don't want to develop players any further or use them in the first team they should let them go no strings attached.

Celtic have basically held him to ransom. They are saying you have honoured your contract and we don't want you to play here but you can't sign for anyone else unless we get a fee. A very poor way to treat a guy they brought over from Australia and the fee they will get is a relative pittance. It's the equivalent of us blocking a new club for Carswell or McHugh for the sake of five grand.

I don't think we would at all. As Irvine implies Celtic shafted him. By offering him a contract it meant if he refused it any club who signed him would be on the hook for potentially 300k compo to Celtic basically making him unemployable. Celtic wanted to force him to sign the contract then find a team willing to pay them a smaller fee to sign him. Offering a contract whilst also saying he has no future with them isn't how the system is meant to work. It's scummy behaviour and a poor way to treat a footballer they are trying to develop.

No because if Erwin signed the deal he would have been an integral part of our squad. If Irvine signed the deal with Celtic they would have let him rot for two years.

I've no idea. I only watch us and the champions league on TV. St Mirren signed two guys with very similar track records last summer and both of them bombed out, having someone reliable along the lines of Sutton or McDonald would be better.

I've never seen the guys play. I've looked at their records at their previous clubs and I don't believe they are certs to score at this level. Moult had a good season in the Conference but Marvin's goal scoring didn't continue when he made the step up. It's also the case that we're Moult's 11th club. Johnson scored 7 in 32 (two penalties) last season in League 2. 5 of his goals came against teams fighting relegation and he was outscored by his team mate Jake Hyde who was at Dundee and Dunfermline and is hopeless. Either one or both of them might turn out to be good signings but they are both a gamble to an extent and expecting either of the two them to be the main goal scorer for the team is asking a lot.

I think one of them probably will it's just difficult to say what one.

Gateshead might well be better than the next stop for the other pair, got to wait and see on that front. Ramsden did look like he had forgotten how to play football in the playoff though. McCall's signings are all finding their true level.

The likes of Partick, St Johnstone and Dundee were far better organised and more solid than us last season and I doubt that will change. I think we'll be battling Killie to avoid the playoff.

Lawson and Richie Brittain are obviously moving to the Highland League to get starts in the oil industry with the guys who own their teams. Given Lawson's limitations and injury record I think he would have been struggling to get a decent deal even in the championship. A terrible signing by McCall. I think McHugh can store goals in the championship. He isn't any worse than the likes of John Baird or Keatings.

I support a club not a player and when push comes to shove how many good games did he have for us over the two spells? McFadden's problem in England is that he wasn't athletic enough.

We've already brought him back and he was murder. He's been back up in Scotland for two and a half years and barely made an impact. Signing him again would be the height of stupidity.

Johnson was good but i wouldn't say he was outstanding other than in a few games against the weakest opposition. He looks like he will improve though and he is miles ahead of where Humphrey was when he joined. Clarkson has a chronic knee injury. He will never be 100% again. He didn't start the season until 27th of September and he was done by Christmas.
