texanwellfan
We started the season with McGinn Gordon and Casey as the back 3 and looked solid but then injuries cut that short and didn’t allow us to play it for very long at all. I wonder if it would have lasted or would have lapsed into Swiss cheese after a few more games.
Kmcalpin
I'm with Weeyin on this - we need to get our central defence and wing backs sorted out. I'd also like to add a midfield destroyer to protect and shield the defence.
weeyin
Even beside Gordon, Casey has struggled. As I have said before, I can see the attributes Casey brings to the team. He is full of energy and great at disrupting things further up the field, and can be a wrecking machine in the oppositon box at set pieces. Defensively, he is often out of position, loses his man regularly, and puts us back under pressure with his poor passing - either passing to the opposition, or making the wrong choice of team mate. It's not like we haven't given our central defenders an opportunity to prove themselves over the past few seasons. They have just continuously failed to deliver. I'm sure it gets inside their head too, and they all might benefit from a fresh start at a new club as much as we'd benefit from a new central unit. I honestly can't think of any combination I see line up on a Saturday and think "that looks solid"

If we had conceded 10 or 12 less, we'd have been playing in Europe next season. I just don't see that happening with any combination we have on our books. I do get your point. - Gordon has another year on his contract - I would still keep Casey

That could be said of every single one of our central defenders. On a regular basis. And at least two are poorer than Casey. Can anyone name me one it does not apply to this season? A couple might be marginally better than Mugabi and Lamie but that's not a high bar. I would happily see us move all four on and start again. But I know that's not going to happen as other areas will need addressing and existing contracts and budget will dictate.

So he's not not going anywhere - and I would keep Casey but Casey is probably off and it's down to Wimmer anyway as to who stays I absolutely get our shortcomings - not trying to make light of them. Doesn't really matter what I think - up to Wimmer

Doesn't really matter what I think - up to Wimmer Wether players are under contract or not they can still be sold or contracts paid off to leave the club, this is not a new phenomenon as kettlewell proved by moving on a number of players in his time as manager , only to replace them with worse options. So if the right offer comes in wee Calum will be gone .

Also not sure who Kettlewell moved on - am sure he moved players out on loan. I honestly don't care that much right now tbh -it's up to Wimmer. I'll be very surprised if we move Gordon on

Danzaki, Efford and McGinley all had contracts which were terminated by SK. There may have been others but those are the three that spring to mind. He played four games for us - no wonder his contract was ended Mcginley apparently departed by mutual consent - Efford too. Efford apparently didn't want to stay with Motherwell - think that's pretty well known

Ultimately, a club was found for him and a deal made so that Motherwell wouldn't have to pay off the remainder of his contract.

Well if you make four appearances and you are shite no wonder you are moved on -anyway I understand your point but I don't think many players this season will fall into the category of you are shite and you need to go aka Gordon Im obviously just not up to speed with all things Motherwell
