Just think we got plastics pitches to look forward to at killie, livi and falkirk.ย ย

See the carpet burn the muir guy had!ย

I was thinking the same.

I also remember when they were introduced, there was talk about them being "all weather". The reality being as long as it's not hot and dry, wet, wet and windy or freezing then they are usuable. Not playable, but usable.

I'd much rather have seen Ayr Utd and Thistle's terrible grass promoted last season.

Went exactly how I thought it would. A new manager trying to establish a completely new style of play while integrating new players up against a team who put 10 men behind the ball to frustrate . Is anyone REALLY surprised we struggled to break them down exactly as in the previous 2 games. Tell you what though I'd rather watch that style of football than what I've endured for the last 2 seasons.

Would also say AP needs a goal and pronto. Mind you he has had little service and probably needs a team mate closer to him.ย

Our crosses have been hopeless. Seems we want to walk ball into net.

I think we're still at the stage where players are thinking about the new tactics, instead of being more instinctive - and that cause some of the runs and passes to be slightly late.

Agree about the crosses, though - quality has been poor overall.

Well I hope SOD is proud of himself, how dare he score the winning goal today, absolute disgrace and hopefully gets dropped for Tuesday ๐Ÿคช๐Ÿคช

Not getting any funnier, tbh.

That second half man. ย Painful.

I'm not even going to say much about that match because there isn't a whole lot to say.

But if you take the three matches as a whole we've probably been OK in 2 halves out of 6 and less than OK in 4 halves out of 6 and this against League 1 and League 2 sides.

And pretty much across ย the board our final touch has been dreadful. ย Passing, shooting, crossing, chance creating it''s all been pretty woeful. ย

And there is a whiff of defensive vulnerability even when we aren't under a lot of pressure.

We are still very early in the season, and very early in Askou's tenure. ย But that team has a lot of improving to do in the next couple of weeks when we step up a level against Morton and Rangers.

He's obviously not been listening to the be brave on the ball speech.

Safety first every time.ย

I'm sure everyone wants him to do well, but he has regressed. Perhaps another loan is needed.ย

I agree re him going back out on loan. Think he's lost confidence tbhย

Iโ€™ll put this out here now, We will not be beating Morton next week. Morton have a decent side and a streetwise manager, helped by a streetwise director of football.

Iโ€™ll be at the game, Iโ€™ll not be booing, shouting at players or calling for JBA,s headโ€ฆ. But we will not be winning that game.ย

A completely different game. In the last three games they have packed the defence and kept everybody behind the ball. Morton will come and have a go. I'll be more interested to see how we fare against teams who are not basically just setting themselves up to stop us scoring. Morton will be a bit more adventurous.ย

Anyway here's my thoughts on today.ย

Positives - Motherwell fc running a bus - brilliant. Thank youย

The very cheap booze in the Stenhousemuir fc pub (I only had one....nice staff too)ย

Thought fans backed the team really wellย

We won!ย

Sod's hilarious goalย

Negativesย

The pissing rainย

Being vertically challenged (although my view was not too bad considering I'm the height of a smurf)ย

The toilets - although I'm sure there's worse in other grounds.ย

Didn't think SODs had a bad game today. Not great but no worse than the others. He also scored the all important winner.ย

It was noticeable at FT thoughย  that as the other players walked over to acknowledge the fans, SODs just walked off. You can understand that though.ย

Could just be co incidence to be fair. He always goes over to the fans even if he's been getting abuse which he didn't get today from where I was standingย

Yup, the abuse that lad takes is terrible.ย  If Kettlewell thought he got pelters it's nowhere near what SOD gets

The conditions, both pitch and weather, undoubtedly had an impact on the quality and pace of the game today. It is also clear that JBA is still messing around with the line-up and formation as he is learning about the players and their abilities. I guess that he has to do it, but it doesn't make for a cohesive team performance.

The 1st half today was OK, but no more than that. It lacked the pace and energy of Tuesday. The second half was played like a training game, almost at walking pace at times. It is good to hear JBA call out the lack of pace in the second half. He clearly saw it and isn't happy about it.

Chance creation was minimal. Our corners were all pretty similar, back post efforts. While one of the many did result in the goal, a bit of variety is needed in our set plays.

Our open play is very hesitant. As someone said, it seems like the players are still thinking about the manager's instructions rather than carrying them out instinctively. This is leading to missed opportunities, but should improve with time. Runs are being made, but not seen.

Our forwards, and I mean Ap and Sule, are not being given much to work with. Everything that Ap got today was behind him with his back to goal. We need to get through and behind teams and get the ball in front of Ap.

I was expecting a bit of improvement and a natural progression from Tuesday. That didn't materialise. I'm sure that it'll improve with time but we need more pace, energy and incisive passing in the final third to carry any threat.

A deserved win today, but it was much more difficult than it should have been.
