After the international break

A wee trip to Dundee must win Will JBA give OX a game? It would be grand to get the three points.

We are playing good football and I think we’re doing ok we are getting a team to match our bowling green pitch as Chris Sutton said in an a recent interview.

Dundee looked pretty toothless against United yesterday. But they did defend very well at Ibrox, so could be another 70% possession game with the onus on us to break them down.

Wouldnt expect us to lose this one, but a lot will depend on whether we can create more clear cut chances and take enough of them to make sure we can cover any more mistakes at the back.

Hopefully Slattery hasnt been sold / isnt badly injured and can be available and Hendry/Said/Osong/RCC are another 2 weeks along the road to full fitness.

Id put Ox back in goals.

As much as Ward is decent on the deck and a potentially good No2, we need a goalie who can use his hands so I hope Ox is back.

touch wood slattery is fit and the international players come back uninjured.

striker is a concern for me and I still think AP is the best we have but I’m sure JBA will know more than any of us by watching them in training over the next 2 weeks to make a judgement call.

a win is a must

I wonder if a team has ever went a whole season unbeaten and not won a game ?

Does look like narrow defeat or draw. Given the forward players they have and our current defence and keeper

Possibly depending on transfer window if we get keeper and defender in.  Also if injuries persist.

They have lost a lot of their better players from last season and Steven Pressley is  their manager, he played a 5-4-1 formation on Sunday against Dundee unt and still shipped 2 goals, we will  beat them.

That's good to know. Just think Murray and Danda have always been good. Suppose we may cause them problems too. Maybe we can get a draw

Well, we've had a 0-0, 1-1, 2-2 and a 3-3, so it's only natural what comes next..... 🙂

On a serious note I don’t see it being 4-4, though you never know.

A draw is the most likely result though, it’s the best we’ll get from this one IMO.

Really have to win this one ,  great football or not we cant be drawing every single game

An interesting statistic I seen earlier we also drew the first 4 games in 1995-1996 under big Eck,  we went on a seriously bad run I remember that year then in true Motherwell style kept 7 clean sheets in a row 😂 Definetly were not playing as good as now though

I do fancy us to get the long awaited league win in September though

75-76 we drew five league games in a row, lost one (against the worst team in the league) and then went on a run that saw us finish 4th and be conned out of the Scottish cup by corrupt masonic refereeing.

Funny you should mention that as I was looking back on soccerbase and saw that too. Exactly 30 years ago. And guess who we were drawn against in the League Cup Quarter Final? Yip, Aberdeen, albeit at home where we lost 2-1 after extra time. That year we finally got our first win at the very end of September at home when we beat Killie 3-0.

We have previous for starting with 4 draws, the most by any team in Scottish league history

@terrace_podcast
3 teams - Kilmarnock, Motherwell and Rangers - have 4 draws from 4 games to begin this league season.
That has only happened another 4 times in the 135-year history of the Scottish top-flight:
Third Lanark (1962/63)
Motherwell (1975/76)
Aberdeen (1988/89)
Motherwell (1995/96)

Having watched highlights today if Ward starts then it's last chance saloon for him, that killie equaliser was embarrassing.

No point getting all the plaudits, playing great football but nothing to show for it as we have a very poor goalie whose confidence will be rock bottom.   Call me old fashioned but I want a goalie to save shots and collect crosses, we have 10 outfield players to do the good footwork

While not absolving the keeper of all blame, let's not ignore the fact it was the defence that gifted the first goal and the strikers that should have put us out of reach before the equaliser.

I'm sure JBA is aware of all these issues, however, and will continue to address them during the break.

Re the Ox vs Ward debate, has everyone forgotten how well Ox played before the injury? Albeit he did make a couple of errors but he has saved us countless times as well.

Unless the injury has somehow degraded his ability I'd be perfectly happy putting him back in.

I like Ox.

He has made a few mistakes in the past, but he is a big unit that generally commands his box and very good shotstopper.

The only thing Im unsure of is how good he is with the ball at his feet. His distribution was better than Kelly's, but thays a really low bar and what JBA wants from his keeper is way beyond that.

Be interesting to see what happens.

Surley that's what training during the week is for.
