Young Players Contracts

The thought strikes me that four of the most senior players should be able to tell the young players that the grass is not always greener elsewhere. Craigan, Lasley and Hammell all left Motherwell and ended up coming back for various reasons. Sutton went down to England for a bigger pay packet and it didn't work out and he found himself back in the SPL.

Or is someone advising these guys to leave in order to safeguard their own place in the squad. Just a thought...

The whole philosophy of a club like ours is to develop young players and sell them on. Some young players will see the advantage of sticking around Fir Park for a few years, some will think its better to move on sooner.

Some will develop into great players, some will disappear into the lower leagues or out of the game altogether.

There is no use in us worrying about who stays and who goes - you can't force anyone to sign a contract. However, there will always be others ready to take their place. Who would have thought, for example, that we would replace Quinn with the former French U-21 Captain? '

Motherwell starlet Ross Forbes has committed his immediate future to the club by signing a new contract.

The young midfielder, who has emerged as a key player under new boss Jim Gannon, has agreed an extension through to summer of 2012.
