  1. Not a bad shout. While British Steel shoulder some of the blame, if they were a bank with those financial problems the government of the day would have been more than happy to throw our tax money at them and keep them afloat.
  2. Agreed on both counts. I guarantee, however, there will be complaints about the new SO too when sections of our fans don't get their way.
  3. "Let's pay a tribute to our Steelmen history, and the devastating impact and loss to the community that many still have to deal with today." Aye, but I don't like the badge.
  4. Safety Officers are always going to rub some folk the wrong way because they are responsible for enforcing rules (and laws) some people don't like e.g. no pyro.
  5. If there is anyone with any business sense in the board, what should happen if Miller prefers a lower bid is that the club (and his agent) tell the lower bidder if they add another million they will get him. Despite all the speculation in the media, nobody really knows the value of any bids that are made, including the interested clubs.
  6. Prudence should be the name of the game even if we get millions for Miller. The last thing we need to be doing is following the John Boyle Model of Recruitment & Financial Management.
  7. I'm thinking about adding a pre-qualification question requirement before posting: "Do you understand the difference between a competitive match and a non-competitive pre-season friendly?"
  8. I like Bevis, but he had as many mistakes and as many poor passes in him as our current defenders.
  9. It always is at this time of pre-season. We're in the run till you're knackered sessions. Actual football and tactics come a bit later.
  10. Doesn't hurt to let the European scouts watch him play.
  11. My Dutch colleagues tell me it's about 34C there today, so probably won't be seeing much high tempo football this evening.
  12. Or St Mirren, given Robinson signed him?
  13. It might, but I'm a Duck Duck Go kinda guy.
  14. Other than "It's on Youtbue" did the club post the kick-off time for today's match? (didn't want to start a new thread). EDIT: Never mind, after not finding it on Twitter or the Club Site, I found it in the email they sent today. 6pm UK time.
  15. Sometimes people forget Miller is only 18. As good as he is, he will have dips in performance like any other 18 year old. However, he is still very much worth 5+ million of any rich club's budget.
  16. I imagine most financial contributors to the Society only want to support the club and have no interest in the day-to-day running. I don't have a problem with that.
  17. Exactly. Miller and his dad have shown they know exactly what they are doing. Clubs are very aware of him (hence the bids we knocked back in January) and his agent will be bigging him up every day. As I have said before, it's 2 months before the window closes, and these types of deals take time. Plus, of course, Lennon has to want to join one of the clubs making an offer.
  18. Don't think it's a huge deal, tbh. I'd imagine he'll train with us until his move is finalised, but the manager will be trying out Miller-less formations in the early matches if he's still around. I would not be surprised if his move isn't finalised until August, especially if it is overseas with all the additional red tape involved.
  19. TBF, I don't think the club have commented. Only the Daily Record is reporting it. Which either means he starts tomorrow, or out until Christmas.
  20. I've seen enough evidence in the UK and in the US (where there are many) to pass judgement.
  21. I'm still cynical about the ban, but in Livi's case they were told by the SPFL after their playoff win that their old plastic did not meet Premiership standards and had to rip it up. Martindale said at that point it wasn't feasible to lay a grass pitch that would ready in time for the start of the season. That may be true, but I can see them using it as an excuse to extend its use.
  22. I certainly hope Oxborough doesn't become one of those players that are "unlucky with injuries" because regardless of how you pick them up, it can kill a career.
  23. I read recently that "the authorities" have brought in some pitch experts to consult with the artificial turf clubs to assist with the transition. So hopefully that means it's still on schedule. The cynic in me agrees with the others that there will be a delay or cancellation in the plans.
