  2. I'm sure aberdeen are letting that foreign boy they have at right back go so them being interested in o'donnell would make sense.hopefully campbell has higher ambitions than moving to aberdeen, for still being young it feels like he has been about for ages and has kind of outgrown the scottish game and needs a fresh challenge to kick him into another level.i wouldn't be surprised if cadden ends up at either aberdeen or hibs in this month.

  5. At this point it doesn't matter. We need an experienced pair of hands to steady the ship. I'd gladly shitfest our way to the end of the season winning ugly if it meant we stay up. Review it at the end of the season when we are out of the worst of Covid, fans are coming back and then move on. The club has done so much good work in recent years on and off the field so it would be a travesty to go down or even get sucked into a relegation battle. Sometimes pragmatism works.

  6. Take no joy in him leaving but I think he was scunnered by performances and lack of tempo. He also seemed to lack the drive and vigour he exhibited at the start of his tenure. Looking at the last few SPFL appointments, Lennon, arguably has plateaued St Brendan's team at best, reality is he has made them much worse despite trophies. Davison, don't see any improvement over Wright except he managed to point May in the general direction of a goalmouth. Killie had that Italian who lost the dressing room now it seems Steve Clark's assistant is a career assistant. Hearts, shitshow after another from when Cathro was appointed. Let's not overlook the advantage of Livvy's pitch to Holt's record. Ross County, highlight was beating us in week 1, Yoggie to the rescue? Accies, Brain Rice ... give me strength. It would be hard for anyone (except the usual suspects) to argue over Robinson during his tenure however it did seem to be on a downward trajectory acknowledged by himself. Yes the team is roughly in the table where he picked it up. While not finding and developing, he blooded and played a number of our youth setup for big financial gain. Financially we are immeasurably healthier and would be infinitessimily if he hadn't given wages to a number of imposters. I'd say in our league at present there are 5 managers who have improved their side (some marginally) over what they inherited. Gerrard, McInnes (however I'd argue he plateaued about 2/3 years ago), Goodwin (too early? based on that Rangers result maybe and recent form), Ross and Robinson. Mellon has inherited Neilson's team but they are more than holding their own as newly promoted, don't feel it fair yet to judge. Holt improved his team so should be above but they declined of late and let's not ignore the importance of that pitch in picking up points. The rest are maintaining that status quo or taking their teams backward. Davison, Kettlewell (as newly punted), Lennon and Dyer (probably the worst performer). No surprise Las gets 4 games (in theory), that leaves 8 days before the transfer window closes. In reality, to stand any chance he needs a bounce against Accies and St Mirren. Good results in the current circumstances is not to be drubbed by Rangers and Aberdeen away is on paper tough but oddly one of our most successful away days for the past 10 years. The board will have an idea after St. Mirren if there's promise and shouldn't be expecting much from the following two games. However the wheels have already been set in motion to court outside interest and will potentially gain more impetus on the 10th of January depending on the result the day before. I also guess he will be told he has to get results with what he has unless there were loan signings already in the pipeline. That could be argued as handcuffing but it is a big step up for someone with no pedigree so I have no issue with that. Also if we do appoint outside the club, having 8 days to wheel and deal to bring in players has to be seen as a minor incentive over playing out things till May with what they inherit.

  7. At our level, a lower/middle ranking Premiership club, we are never going to be successful by playing open sexy football. We simply cannot go toe to toe with the league’s top sides. If we want any measure of success on the field, it will have to be founded on character, physicality, hard work, organisation and tactics. We can look back to the likes of Tommy & Jim MacLean. Teams founded mainly on being hard to beat but absolutely dire to watch. What talent we have will come through the youth system. In our current predicament and in the short term we need to steady the ship by whatever means necessary. Make sure the good ship Fir Park remains in the Premiership. Then longer term develop our youth system to feed sales, as we have been doing successfully for a few years now. For me, until the end of the season we need to build from the back and make us hard to beat. Forget about playing attractive football. Excitement doesn't equal points on the board. These factors should shape our search for a new manager. Maurice Ross and Keith Lasley will hit the ground running as they know the club and players, if they are appointed, but what role have they played in the team’s demise this season? We just don't know. The club will probably take a different line as it has done in the past. Interesting times.

  8. Hey, glad to see I have a fan steelboy, I’m just a glass half full type of guy, prefer that to constant negativity.

  9. Craig Brown was an excellent appointment. And for me he essentially set the template for the success McCall had. When McCall had to come up with his own ideas I think he was found lacking a bit. However in that period we were losing money hand over fist. We don't have the monies (or rather the facilities for debt) to do what we did back then. With all due respect to Robinson I think he was pretty basic tactically and was a product of lower league football at Bournemouth and Luton in the 1990s and 2000s. We should be looking for a more astute type of coach who's not tainted by a background in physical, long ball, minimum technique style football. We need a bit of forward vision at the club, personally as a long term fan I've been feeling deflated recently about our club. I'm looking for something to buy into rather than just watch short term 'get a result' (and often not getting it) kind of football. Right now we are moribund.

  10. Given the current squad and time of year it would be prudent to bring in a safe pair of hands to see us through until the end of the season. Similar to when we brought in Craig Brown - he knew what he was doing and got the most of the squad. To be clear I'm not stating Brown but someone in that mould .

  11. More than 6 wins in a year? Half decent football? Players with a professional attitude? Any kind of entertainment value? I'm surprised Robinson went now and I think he was due a few more matches but while things can always get worse it's pretty negative to assume that they will when the worst was looking very likely anyway. The whole 'let's blunder along and accept anything that's not total failure' attitude is one that I think has infected our thinking in recent times and needs to be curbed. And if we do get relegated Robinson had half a season in charge and will have to bear half the responsibility. He only accumulated 17 points and put together a squad that is pretty uninspiring. If his replacement can't better Robinson's points legacy we will definitely be in trouble. In the meantime I'll hope, probably in vain, of getting in a manager that views Motherwell as a top level professional club rather than a kick and rush lower league outfit. Motherwell FC should be a lot better than they are right now. We need someone to come in and raise the base line standards. They haven't been good enough for a while. On Stephen Robinson, I have sympathy for him but at the end of the day he's left because he's recognised before a lot of others that things simply weren't good enough.
