Every low point we have there is the usual knee-jerk reactions on websites about how its the worst squad in years etc etc. But on this occasion I feel it is genuinely a bit different. Anger has to be directed at this current squad who are contributing absolutely nothing to this football club. I have never seen a bigger bunch of passengers in my time watching the club. Baraclough's squad had some talent in it. Hell even Malpas's squad had some talent and fight in it as the same players went on to win third the following season under Muttley McGhee. The present squad feels very much like what I associate largely with Killie and Hibs about 6 years ago - lacklustre and just here for a job, nothing more. If I was within the club hierarchy I would have the club staff list pinned to the dressing room wall as it isn't the players jobs at risk - they can feck off and find other clubs - our staffing that would be trimmed is what is at stake, these guys may struggle given the economic crisis that is inbound is going to make the 2009 credit crunch look like a lottery win. Only draw of relegation I can think of is the opportunity to play and absolutely scud Airdrie if they somehow come up to the championship. On the other hand I see Dundee Utd as the club most similar to ourselves in terms of club size, resources, achievement potential etc and it took them a few years to come back up. That's what concerns me the most As has been said above Motherwell have had it very comfortable pretty much my whole life. Maybe that spark that we have that has set us apart from other teams our size is going out? The past 20 years there has always been a core group of experienced players passionate for the club with a good relationship with the support. That isn't there at the moment (that's going to take years to rebuild) and that's perhaps why this low feels a bit different to the other ups and downs. That said, I don't think we will go down. The media seem to be going all out on Kilmarnock at the moment.3 points

on the topic of Gallagher, Tweeting players is f***ing embarrassing, can we please stop it.3 points

Relegation, how bad would it be? I dunno, like winning an all expenses trip to the Seychelles, get to the airport and find out due to lockdown it's been cancelled so as an alternative you're off to a Caravan Park in Girvan. You get there and Steelboy is head of customer service, and milo is entertainment director. It would be that bad. Awwww FFS, now Lasley's just shown up in a white trackie and a bumbag to take the Mrs off for her massage.3 points

Based on what I've seen this season ..... and here is the caveat ..... with what resources Alexander has at his disposal from now till game 38, I'd suggest that O'Hara would be part of the solution and not part of the problem. Many others have been guilty of malevolence and hiding but I'd say he's not in that camp for me. Many players have technical or decision making deficiencies, that's why they're with us.1 point

Any idea why they haven't been listed as injured on the official site? Not really helping matters when fans are left wondering for weeks why three new signings are nowhere near the squad.1 point
-
What about Saturday? Would that be within your appropriate timescales to say whether he was at it, or not1 point
-
I heard O'Hara is concussion related and shouldn't have been rushed back the other week. No idea on the rest.1 point
-
But...but....it was in the Daily Record! Don't you know that our football journalists never get this kind of thing wrong?!? I mean, I know the club has claimed he's got an injury, and that he'll be back when he's fit, but we all know the club aren't as trustworthy or knowledgable as our esteemed football media!1 point

There may be, but, not asked to do the job expected of O’Hara. Hasn’t the discipline to play as deep sitting midfield offering protection to the back four, hasn’t the discipline to maintain positional sense in defence. So I’m not sure where the fighting/battling qualities the original poster mentioned come from?1 point

Is there a case for replacing Magloire with Lamie and Polworth with Watt?1 point

Here we go, another deflection back to Robinson. It was all Robinson's players this, Robinson's players that right up until about half-time in Dingwall. Not a peep thereafter about them being Robinson's players when they won three in fairly quick succession. We lose to Hamilton and lo and behold suddenly we're back to it's all Robinson's players again. We are to believe that Alexander is going to relocate his family lock, stock and barrel a couple of hundred miles up the road having knocked back several jobs beforehand because they weren't suitable but is happy to accept a position at a team struggling near the bottom of the table where he he has little or no say in half a dozen players being foisted on him. Really? We really think he's going to take on the job in those circumstances? He took over on something like 7th January. Smith, Nolan, Magloire, Roberts and Foley were all signed at least a fortnight, some of them three weeks later. And they are supposed to be too far down the line to stop? Laughable.1 point

It feels like kangaroo court here where people are determined that Gallagher is the Panto villain. I suspect we'd have let him go or at least agree to remove the auto extension part of his contract. He has little to gain by throwing his toys out.1 point

As long as we stay up, Alexander should be given time to sort things out. If we go down, either he goes or Burrows walks, because someone has to take responsibility for this shambles. Whatever happens, the recruitment guru is toast.1 point

I am Scunnered by the team and the manager No fight or heart in the team Scunnered by injuries Scunnered by the seven signings made in January. Only Kelly has worked. Magloire the only other one to get a start. Mystery surrounds Foley, Nolan and Smith absences. Smith and Roberts look no better than White and Seedorf. Scunnered by the managers tactics. Our three man midfield gets over run when Campbell and O'Hara are there. On Saturday we have three Championship level midfielders and he persisted with the system. What did he expect to happen. With a make shift defence he should have been giving them maximum protection. The short passing at bye kick might be alright with a team full of confidence but not with this lot. Anyway one of the best long passers in the team is the goalie so why not use him. I have watched every away game this season apart from Rangers and Celtic but will be missing out on Wednesday. The six o'clock start does not go down well with Mrs Sinjy as she has spent all day in the kitchen preparing a Cordon Bleu meal and she is scunnered when half way through the meal I leave the table to set up the lap top. It is not worth the hassle any more.1 point

Somebody at Fir Park has to come out and tell the fans what is happening with the captain is he up for the fight or will we not see him in a Motherwell shirt again ? If he has no interest in helping the club in the survival fight then sit him in the stand for the rest of the season with the probably outcome for him no European championship as I don't see Clarke picking a player who hasn't played any games in months . Think some porkies have been told about Gallagher so better to get it out in the open and tell the fans what is really going on1 point

I still have no doubt we'll stay up. I think we'll maintain a decent above relegation and play-off before the split and increase that gap post-split. The only wildcard for me right now is the injury situation.1 point

I disagree. Even under fan ownership we are always going to have a top 10 budget and advantages over other clubs of our size in bringing in players. There is no reason why we should be relegated from a league with Accies, Livi and Ross County. Look at our squad just now. Money isn't the issue it's the fact that we have signed dozens (no exaggeration) of shite players who have contributed nothing while letting our captain and vice captain leave. If fan ownership has any problems it's not being ruthless enough. Robinson completely hobbled us and the board were still telling him to stay then when he quit anyway gave him a golden handshake instead of trying to get him out the door at minimum cost and telling him to take his boy with him. If we finish below Accies or lose to a Championship team in a playoff heads will have to roll.1 point

Let's be honest about this - Motherwell FC have had a very charmed life. We really should have been relegated before and I think under fan ownership it's only really a matter of time before we are relegated. A club of our size and budget just isn't going to survive in the Premiership indefinitely. Even if we escape relegation this season (I think we will) it's bound to happen sooner or later. I just can't see us surviving, say, another 10 seasons in a row in the Premiership. So while relegation is more bad than good, I think we need to think of it as a strong possibility in the immediate future of the club and something we need to be prepared for as supporters and as an organisation.1 point

Mo Ross has been firing a catapult at players knees, it has taken until now to identify him as he has been wearing a mask.1 point

We would survive, but it would be rubbish. No doubt we'd have to cut back on a lot of things, but hopefully we would stick by our academy for a while. It was said at the AGM that we have things in place to cut costs should relegation occur, which I assume is either wage cuts or contract termination clauses triggered by relegation. We are in a decent position in that we're not sitting with any bad multi-year contracts, but still have a nucleus of a team contracted for next season. I do want to apologize for causing this whole thing though. We had our great spell under McLean and Mcleish when I lived in england, and then nearly got relegated when I moved back. Now I'm close to moving back from the states it seems I've triggered the doomsday scenario again. But you know, new grounds and stuff.1 point

Can I remind everyone that we are in a better position than any of the other relegation threatened teams? 4 points and a game in hand on some teams. Kilmarnock are on 8 defeats on the trot, we are on two. The last two matches have been poor but I doubt if the rest of the teams are gonna rack up wins in the next few weeks and we need fewer points to guarantee safety than any of them. All the teams below us would bite your hand off to be in our position. It'll go to the post split fixtures and we are going to have to fight it out but are people throwing the towel after two poor results? Have you watched Motherwell before or know the league? Come on!1 point
-
given the team can't get out of our own half of the park - can't say I'd give any of our strikers a hard time. If they were missing loads of chances then yes. The issue with Smith is we don't cross the ball - therefore his height isn't any advantage at the moment1 point

That article makes for interesting reading but I can't really see that a win and a draw this far out from the end of the season can ensure safety. Assuming it is, it is hard to see where the four points will come from pre-split. Tommy Wright will have Kilmarnock in better shape by the time we play them again, Hibs are going well as are St Mirren and Livi. In football though results can come from nowhere and sometimes when you least expect it. Who would have thought Accies would have beat us 4-1 last week? So a win mid-week is by no means impossible and one win, whenever it comes between now and the end of the season would go a long way to ensuring safety. So the question for me is will we get one win between now and the split regardless of who it is against? Sadly I think not. There is just too much wrong at the moment to see a change in fortune any time soon. I think we will be looking at a couple of very tense post split head to heads to see us over the line. I have only just recovered from the Rangers play-off drama. I am not looking forward to going through it all again.1 point

I've never seen us outside the top flight but here's my two cents anyway. It feels like there's not really much in-between. In the best case scenario we go down, scud the rest of the league, get some decent away days and come straight back up and it's like we've never been away. Would I occasionally take that over another season of bottom 6 humdrum? Absolutely. The alternative is an absolute hellscape though. Losing any remotely promising players to the likes of Killie or St Johnstone, getting pumped out the cups by the same teams and spending a decade at least in the Championship/League One? Get that to absolute fuck.-1 points
