I don't disagree that he didn't chase any balls down or win a header. On the first issue, not really his strength, no point having a slow striker pressing. On the second, Obika is 6ft tall. Gallagher is 6ft5 (I think) and Taylor is 6ft2. As soon as we starting playing the ball to his chest, he was holding them off and laying it off to Johnston, the midfield and Van Veen. Was he fantastic? No, but he wasn't dreadful either...4 points

He certainly stabilised Killie. They were a solid mid-table Championship team when he left them.4 points

Oh well how good was that tonight? Miles better certainly from effort perspective but frustrating that effort wasn't their in previous games, anyway moving on. Goss Spittal and KVV miles better for effort with Spittal excellent. Butcher and Casey look really good no nonsense signings and young furlong came onto a game. Johnson and Cornelius loads of effort. Obika for a big man doesn't jump well but good on the ground. Loved Kelly doing his Allan McGregor impression and time wasting. My one negative was the booing when SOD came on. Jeez get a grip, I know he hasn't been playing well but are we at the stage where we boo guys wearing our own jersey!! Come on. And I hope buddies are paying Watt's full wage, jeez a shadow of the player that played for us3 points

Who gives a flying fuck all that remains of this season is staying up by hock or by crook2 points

U must've been at a different game from me,,spittal WAS my man of the match, obika done ok,he helped lighten the load that was put on KVV and maybe that is why we saw him back to some sort of form2 points

Must have been at a different game to me, Obika was slow couldn’t jump for any challenges and never chased down any balls put out from the back, but if you think he played well then we will agree to disagree 👍🏻2 points

I'm sorry, big man, but you are having a laugh. I was really unimpressed to see Obika in the lineup, for me he's offered nothing any time he's played so far but tonight I thought he and Van Veen linked well (particularly in the second half).I think the key is to give him the ball to his chest. Number of times he took it and held off a defender before giving it to a Motherwell player... And as for Spittal? He set up the first goal and had another couple of good balls cut out by defenders. Did he misplace a pass or two? Aye, find me a player who didn't... I know we all see the game differently but come on...2 points

The names don’t inspire me either. But all they ‘’aw fuck no’’ managers are considerably better options than stevie hammell. Stuart Kettlewell included.2 points

And with good reason. The very fact that no one else in the bottom six has conceded less goals than us is in large part down to Kelly. Throw in the absolute dugshit defences he's been playing behind and that fact becomes even more noteworthy. We've seen enough from him to know that he's solid enough 95% of the time. Now isn't the time to try out another keeper to see if he's any good or not.2 points

We were on a hiding to nothing there. In Partick's absence, St Mirren are media darlings in the Premiership.1 point

I think it's simplifying tactics, the usual manager bounce, and st mirren being nowhere near as good as folk like to make out.1 point

Johnstone is a great wee player, definitely cemented himself in that right back position for me. Centre of defence and left back still give me fear but they might improve with more games. van veen was excellent, and incredibly so was spittal. Liked the look of aitchison when he came on and Cornelius put in a good shift. if they all put in that level of effort for the remaining games we’ll pick up points.1 point

Butcher as a holding midfielder and Cornelius working with him with his energy is a step in the right direction. If Goss is playing wide left then I would have preferred to see McKinstry or Crankshaw out there instead.1 point

Good to see Dean Cornelius starting, but no Stuart McKinstry. A mixed bag of a team. McGinn is no central defender.1 point

Good seeing butcher in midfield but can't believe Goss back and Spittal starting but let's hope they prove me wrong....get intae them!!1 point

I think that saying he's been dreadful is overstating it a wee bit. He's been left completely exposed by a poor defence way more than he was last season. His distribution has deteriorated markedly though, his pinpoint passing was a real feature when he arrived on loan.1 point

I'd pencil in Oxborough for league cup games next season to give him first team experience. This season the only change that I'd make in goal is giving the armband to an outfielder and let Kelly focus on his own performances.1 point

your right about the keeper situation but SH shouldv tried the other keeper b4 now, as i said previously nobody knows if heez a randolph or a chapman another one down to stevie1 point

The thing about Wright is that his last experience with Killie was the first time he was in an actual relegation situation - and he blew it. Not only was he incapable of getting Killie out of relegation trouble, their performances in the play-off were beyond pathetic. A play-off that is set up to favour the Permiership teams.1 point

Way too early to say he's shite. Ineffectual would probably be the best word to describe him so far, but as I''ve said its likely to have been a bit of a culture shock coming half way across the world to an under performing team. Needs time to settle, but should be nursed along from what I've seen.1 point

Dont want to see any off the following starting O’Donnell, Goss, Slattery, Danzaki or Tierney......... thats what you said, implying you think They are not worth starting ie shite... or did you mean something else?1 point

I spoke to Tommy Wright at a Ballyclare Comrades game not long after GA beat him to the job last time and he said he was gutted not to have got the job. He was convinced that he would have been able to stabilise the club in a more fan-friendly way than Alexander looked to likely do at the time, so I reckon he’ll be a shoe-in for it if he applies.1 point

Whilst some of the names being mentioned in the media give me the fear, I do wonder what kind of manager our fans want us to appoint. If we're going for experience, like many of us want, then its unlikely that the successful applicant would have a blemish free record. On the basis of that, Ian Murray has had one failure, at St Mirren, and Tom Wright one failure at Kilmarnock - I'm not necessarily advocating the latter by the way just an illustration of stats.1 point

I hear what you are saying re Murray, but he didn't do well at St Mirren and I remember him buying Stuart Carswell from us... suppose everyone has the odd blip, would still rather have Lee bullen , if we are going down that route1 point

Looked as though Kettlewell’s objective was not to lose the game. tonight. It was a really turgid football match but a very welcome win and 3 points. Puram et ferent ad sidera.0 points

Is it a 3-5-2 with McGinn and Johnson as wing backs? Would rather see a front 3 of McKinstry KVV and Crankshaw. Think we are gonna get beat now tbh.0 points

They did do okay. It's only once Kettlewell was handed the reigns on his own that the wheels came off. If you look at his record there as sole manager it was very similar to Hammell's. Both had around six months in the job, both of them won the same amount of games in that timeframe, and their winning percentage was quite similar (25% for Hammell and 29% for Kettlewell). The only difference was Kettlewell was bumped when County were four points adrift at the bottom. I've seen a few folk commenting on how he came across in that press conference. I'll tell you what, I saw Graham Alexander described as "arrogant" but Kettlewell managed to outdo him by some margin. When a manager says three times in 15 minutes "not to sound arrogant here..." you know he fancies himself as a top coach. The only difference, of course, is that Kettlewell has pretty much fuck-all by way of a record to back up such an attitude. Alexander had an arrogance about him, and his football was dire to watch, but his overall career win percentage is 43%, and he's guided two teams to promotion and reached a play-off and cup final down south. Plus guided us to a top six finish and European football. Remember those heady days? 👀0 points
