  2. I wasn't convinced either, but then I noticed this on his wiki page 444 goals in 15 games is a pretty decent return

  3. 100% this. It was easily the worst of our many ‘jobs for the boys/old pals’ moves in the last decade. Mark McGhee first time around was the best managerial appointment that John Boyle made in his time. The way he turned that team around in summer ‘07 to deliver some sublime football, a third placed finish, European football and all while dealing with the tragic death of Phil O’Donnell was an incredible feat. The problem thereafter was that from 2008 onwards McGhee had clearly decided that he was too good for us and spent the majority of the next season virtually making no secret about that. He was obviously going to leave that summer and when the Celtic and Aberdeen jobs became available on the same day he hung about here for as long as he could in the hope he would get the Celtic one, before eventually accepting Aberdeen. Meanwhile we were sitting with a squad of out of contract players and a manager with no intention of staying. That left a bad taste in the mouth as he basically treated the club with contempt. To bring him back after all that in 2015 was a ridiculous move and his behaviour and attitude was no better. The quote that always stands out is “this is why, and please don’t misinterpret me here, I am managing Motherwell today and not Liverpool”. It takes a really special type of arrogant walloper to disrespect the club you are employed by during a press conference like that but that cap certainly fits McGhee.

  4. I think I'd rather have another pandemic than watch Maguire, McGinlay, Tierney and Shields next season.

  5. Thanks @David for doing the boring part of tallying up the votes. Some interesting stats across the season. If you look at total votes cast, KVV was first and Goss was a clear second. Goss actually picked up votes in more games across the season than Kev. Same for Spittal in fourth spot - he also picked up votes in more games than KVV. O'Donnell had the 6th highest total number of votes across the season. Butcher manages the 7th highest total which was pretty impressive for 14 appearances. Kelly had the highest individual total in anyone game - 42 in our early season win against St Mirren. The lowest number of votes to win it was Matt Penney, when he was MOTM against Rangers in December. There were only 7 votes cast he 4 were for him.

  6. That's the trademark of that useless fud Clarke, filling his squads with players he has no intention of playing, while staying loyal to his favourites who constantly underperform

  7. This all started over on P&B where someone took McGinns comment in his interview of there being "wolves at the door" for Van Veen literally.

  8. The problem was Hammy wouldn't change from his 4 at the back system, which was not working. Perhaps if he had, he might still be in a job, not sitting in the house.

  9. These guys at United are on stupid money,7k Fletcher apparently Maybe the boy Middleton if he fitted into wage structure, I wouldn't be breaking bank for any of them, there's a reason they've been relegated

  10. McGhee certainly hid his massive ego less than most, but it made his press conferences pretty entertaining if you just assumed nothing he was saying was true.

  11. I was a bit concerned with that interview. Not because it sounded like he wasn't convinced Danzaki had proved himself, but more with his comment that "we don't play a number 10" I'm hoping he meant that we don't play a number 10 within the structure he had to implement when he took over rather than he wouldn't have played a number 10 even when Turnbull was on the books.

  12. I would imagine Kettlewell will be looking to offload a lot of the unconctracted players and as many of the contracted ones, that he doesnt fancy, as he can. What business we do will probably depend on how successful he can be in that regard.

  13. If they offer him a good wage increase that could be a great move for him. Of course they would have to offer a decent wad of cash to make it a good deal for Motherwell. That’s what worries me. A team may be willing to offer him a great deal wage wise but offer us a pittance as a transfer fee. Now you have a disgruntled player on your books who really wants away but it’s not worth it to the club to let him go. Then we end of either no money and a huffy KVV or no KVV and not. Lot of money.

  14. It started dignified until he put the Scotland job into the club's hands. It felt strange at the time and still stands out to me.

  15. For me 2022 is probably the worst footballing year I have witnessed on the football side of things It was dire from two different managers was a total horror show.

  16. Clarke literally got us to our first major finals since 1998. I get that he seems unpopular on here but on paper he has more than earned his stay as Scotland manager. I'd love to see Kelly get his first cap but I also feel Clarke has earned the benefit of the doubt with his selections.

  17. I would aghree with all of that other than Joe Efford. He was bang on form just when he got injured. He had a slow start with us but he was turning in some great performances. I'd offer him another deal.
