  1. Nothing as good as some of the stuff posted above. I have had a soft spot for Motherwell since 1973ish. I am a Sunderland fan - you may have guessed by my nick. Anyway my Dad worked away in Glasgow when I was a kid. I used to go to Roker Park and hear the chants of Celtic/Rangers from the Fulwell end, so I asked my Dad to get me a scarf next time he was in Glasgow. He bought me a Motherwell scarf! (I still have it somewhere safe - just wish I knew where!) It took me fifty years to finally visit Fir Park and see a game. I've now been twice, here's a few shots from my last trip up, family day V Ross County 3-3. My first game was last season the 3-0 win over Livingston. Hope to be up soon, I have a mate who follows St Mirren and we hope to get to the next meet.

  2. And there is the heart of the problem πŸ™‚ Since 2019, Wilkinson's scoring record is miles better than Scott's. Strikers are always a gamble. Fletcher/Moult is a great example and there are dozens of others. Sometimes strikers wouk out in certain teams and others just don't and a lot of the time, track record doesn't reflect outcome. You can go back decades with this. Willie Pettigrew had been on the books with Alloa and Hibs I think, couldn't get a look in and then became a goal machine for us. Another mid 70's example, Mike Larnach set the heather on fire for Clydebank, went down south and faild, came back to us and failed again, went back to clydebank and started battering them in for fun again. (sorry, im an old c**t so my recollection of 70's transfers is immense πŸ™‚ ).Tommy McLean signed Ally Graham from Ayr when he was the top goalscorer in the 2nd tier, but did nowt for us and got moved on. Not having a go at you here mate, but when I see posters constantly carp about our clubs faiures in the signing department, it pisses me off, for a multitude of reasons. Most of them probably couldn't organise a Subbuteo team and have no idea about contracts, budgets etc and can't see the bigger picture. You canny just go on 'playmaker' and type in 'top league, proven 25 goal a season striker at under Β£2K per week, multiple assists welcome'. πŸ™‚

  3. Yep, all doing well, If Nicholson, Halliday and Monty show up well and every chance they could as they have decent pedigree , then it's been a pretty good season for recruitment team considering the restraints...well done ketts and nick daws

  4. Re: Gannon, it never ceases to amaze me that he still has Motherwell fans talking him up and saying they wish he had stuck around. Even now that we’re now what? fourteen years on from his departure after his SIX month spell in charge?! It was fairly obvious from around late October/early November of his tenure that he was working his ticket and didn’t want to be here and he’s done nothing in his career since to suggest that he would have worked wonders for us. And that’s before you take into account what several of the players who worked under him here said about him in the aftermath of his departure.

  5. If strikers are meant to score goals, why has Bair been a bad signing?

  6. But we are the Motherwell FC. We hate the Hearts AND we hate Dundee!!

  7. Jeez guys we have done this one to death. But here goes again. Oli Shaw was a last minute panic buy after Biereth had got injured and we needed someone in sharpish. The management / recruitment team would not have had a huge pool of talent to pick from at that point but needed to get someone in to help out until Biereth was fit again. He has now been moved back to his parent club after 6 months at no loss to Motherwell. How that can in anyway be assessed as a failure or an albatross to hang around Kettlewell / Daws neck beggers belief. Not saying our recruitment couldnt be improved. Of course it could. But please let this one go!

  8. Kettlewell and Daws weren't the only ones who were behind the idea of us signing Shaw. Go back and read the responses when he signed. He was considered a "decent signing" who would kick on if given playing time. Funnily enough, there's no sign of you claiming he would be a disaster and that Kettlewell and Daws had got it wrong. You only jumped in and made that claim with 20/20 hindsight.

  9. Another failure from Kettlewell and Daws. And another January window trying to rectify atrocious recruitment from the previous summer. We can’t keep going through this cycle every single year.

  10. As it stands, we’re going into our first league game after the winter break with one recognised striker. That is a huge concern.

  12. Wasn't planned going back to uni, a strange set of circumstances got me to this point. I don't even remember if Motherwell did a student season ticket the first time I was at uni. Probably not from recollection Plus if you are in a low income and in Scotland and study part time you get your fees paid. Not the only reason I'm doing it but it absolutely helps.

  13. Absolutely Grizzly. As it stands Obika is out injured so that only leaves Bair. Given his injury record we can't rely on Obika. If we want to play 2 up front we may need 3 strikers but yes 2 minimum. That should be our priority of course. I'd still like a dominant central defender in the Hartley/Aldred mould though and a pacy RWB but that might be asking too much. To be even more demanding, we need incomers to hit the ground running. A big ask but we have a week to go. Saturday is another matter.

  16. Thats a good result for us. Dont want Aberdeen getting to far ahead and it keeps St Johnstone behind us for now. Take that!

  17. Great photos mate thanks for sharing your experience at Fir Park.

  18. Four, assuming Obika stays. Zdravkovski, Gent and Bair are doing ok for us. Biereth and Spencer did well enough to be recalled. How does that confirm the entire summer window was a waste of time?

  19. I am aware of how tough things are for Motherwell just now given that we don't have as much money to spend as other SPL clubs. Seem to have quoted you twice by accident there

  20. None. The folk who expect us to bring in top quality strikers given those restrictions - which I think reflect our current state pretty accurately - might have their heads stuck in a bong, though.

  21. Irrespective of which strikers we sign, we need them to be fit and hit the ground running. No point in them taking 2 months to get fit/match fit.

  22. Fingers crossed Kettlewell can find some strikers who have good goal scoring records, are surplus to requirements at their current club (or even better, don't have a club), and are attracting zero interest from anyone with more money than us to spend - which seems to be any club at or above our level.

  23. FWIW someone who is usually spot on with his info told me that we were never in for Main or Scott and it was just paper talk.

  24. Rarely seen? I'm pretty sure you have posted the exact same complaint about McGhee, McCall, Baraclough, Robinson, Alexander and Hammell (to name just a few). You must be raging that you can't blame this on 'Flow.

  25. I personally think Kettlewell should be given another year if we stay up which hopefully we will.

  26. Completely agree, the last window was a failure and this one is underwhelming so far. Scott would be a good addition as someone who can carry the ball akin to how Watt used to and get us up the park.

  27. Kettlewell is mismanaging us on a rarely seen level but he still seems to have a decent chunk of the support onside because they like watching really long videos.

  28. That has to be right up there in terms of the best bit of business the club has ever done to get that money for scott.i know he got a bad injury when he was at hull but his career has pretty much stalled or he's similar to the likes of hastie and Irwin, where they kinda burst on the scene but couldn't take there game to another level where there not a youngster anymore.its no surprise he's going to st mirren to work with a manager thats got the best out of him so far,im glad we didnt end up with him though as he wouldn't have solved any of our issues.

  29. We got Β£1.2 million for Scott a few years back which was great business.

  30. I wasn't that convinced with h him when we had him first time round but he was young so potential to develop , which I don't think he did. Was utter shite at Hibs. Quite delighted if St Mirren outbid us on this one. Watched the Hearts Dundee game last night. Curtis main was the pitch 28 mins and looked guff ,another bullet dodged .

  31. According to the guy the runs pie and bovril he previously mentioned that they apparently offered significantly more than us to sign the likes of O'Hara and Mandron. Seems like Lasley is taking the Dempster approach. Not too fussed on James Scott as he wasn't the finished article when he left us and hasn't seemed to have kicked on in anyway.

  32. We could do with St.Johnstone losing to Aberdeen tonight too. I know that that would see Aberdeen pull further away from us but let’s face it, that was always going to happen. St.Johnstone though will likely remain in the mix with us, Ross County and Livingston until the end of the season. As for Saturday I can only see us getting a draw at best.

  33. Heard Scott has signed for St Midden, dodged a wee bullet there, need someone more direct

  38. Don't tell me we're signing another Japanese forward......

  39. Bair is brutal, he has no positionional sense at all, nothing sticks to him so he was unable to hold the ball up and play others in. He ran about like a headless chicken and contributed feck all game, as was mentioned earlier on the few occasions when we got the ball into the box he was nowhere to be seen, a Biereth or a KVV would have probably scored. Yes he's scored a few goals in recent weeks but the simple fact is he never was and never will be premiership level and its a damming indictment of the problems we have that he was the first choice striker yesterday. Unless SK gets a couple of strikers in this window we are heading for trouble as I can't see where our goals will come from.
