  1. We had all the doom and gloom and the death of Scottish football chat, when Rangers went bust in 2012 and it was all bullshit. It's an irrelevant argument anyway as it will never happen, but if the ugly sisters left Scotland the game would be better for it, more competition in the premiership, more teams getting a chance to win the league, 2 teams other than the uglies winning the league in the last 50 odd years is not good. As for TV money there would still be a deal albeit a lower one but clubs will survive, the game in Scotland is what it is but without the uglies it would be in a better place.
  2. Are you suggesting the lowest league level in England or would they need to start in the Isthmian league at level 7, you could get a good Netflix mini series from that scenario,
  3. Would take him back next season if Hearts don't want him, he gave us a very good option up front.
  4. Sooner they leave Scottish football and take all there baggage with them the better, the Scottish game will be better for it. Plus if they did end up in an expanded English premiership / British super league they would quickly find out they are not as good as they think they are. The other 40 clubs in Scotland would be glad to see the back of them. However as Ya Bezzer says it will never happen, the English turkeys won't vote for Christmas, so this is the usual bullshit story that surfaces every few years.
  5. I assume the vast majority, if not all of the people who will be there will have been at the game in 91 so they have probably heard "the old" Stories a dozen times, so whats the point. Raising funds for the youth academy is a great idea but the club could have been a bit more creative in deciding what fund raiser to implement. An event centering around the current players / club, with the 91 players involved as a nod to the cup win, comparing new and old styles, can this years squad repeat the win etc would have been appealing to a wider audience of fans of all ages, instead of the "Tam Cowan, asking Patterson or Nijholt for another funny story from the cup that year, or was Colin O'Neil really a psycho" format that's been done to death.
  6. Agreed, as great as it was for those of us who were there and for the club , we will always remember it, but all of the Anniversary date stuff, talks with legends etc has been done to death, it was 30 years ago ffs, all we should get now is an update on the club twitter, " on this day 30 years ago etc we won the cup", we all like the tweet and move on.
  7. Scottish football is what it is, not the best standard, but it's always been that way. GA won't be building a team to challenge for the title, for 10 of the 12 premiership teams 3rd , 4th or 5th in the league, a European place, and a good cup run constitutes a great season. On the budget we will have as always recruitment will be from the lower leagues in England, Scotland and elsewhere, we have found some great players from there in recent years, but also some utter dross, so given the events of this season we need to choose carefully . Given his experience and contacts in the English lower leagues I am confident GA and the coaching staff can bring in players who will be a good fit for the team and how he wants us to play, so here's hoping we can unearth another Higdon or Moult.
  8. BBC gossip page allegedly has us interested in Linfield striker, Shayne Lavery https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/56842582
  9. On the phone to Alan Burrows asking how much budget he has for the summer rebuild and another season in the premiership
  10. Job done with 3 games to spare, we can all relax now and look forward to the summer rebuild.
  11. If it stays that way we are safe from the playoffs as well
  12. An 11 minute hat trick for Lafferty, he must be into double figures now since he signed, as I have said before, he was just what we needed in January, might even have got us top 6, definitely an opportunity missed.
  13. County are 1-0 up already, Jordan White
  14. Play shite and win, the hallmark of a good team
  15. We are mathematically safe from automatic relegation, and if Killie don't win tonight we will be safe from the playoff spot as well
  16. Apart from the the ugly sisters and their Edinburgh cousins the number of away fans turning up at Fir park is poor seems to be the dedicated hard-core supporters who will always turn up. Making all matches available on PPV is going to decrease those numbers even further, how many Aberdeen, Ross county ,Dundee untd fans etc are going to travel to Fir park on a freezing wet midweek night or weekend to see the game? Given the option of paying £12 instead of £20 plus travel costs, food etc its a no brainer, they will stay at home. The live streaming was a sensible option for this season given the circumstances, but long term it will discourage fans from attending matches and clubs will suffer. In my opinion there is already too much football on TV, but the SFA/ SPFL and clubs have sold their souls to Sky and the other broadcasters in search of more and more cash to a point where its now the broadcasters deciding when games get played, not for the clubs or fans benefit but to meet their schedules. We have already seen this week the greed of the so called elite clubs and their owners to create a closed shop and try to get more cash from the TV companies with no thought for the fans. Live broadcasts and streaming of games has to be available in the modern game, clubs need the money, but they need to get the balance right or what we have seen this season might become the norm,
  17. Agreed, would love us to pump them 5 or 6 nil as a bit of payback for the previous 3 games, but would settle for not losing, or an O'Donnell 35 yard special in injury time to win it.
  18. You can have a direct comparison on things like stadiums, facilities , pitches etc and they are all better in every respect. As for the players its a bit more difficult, today's players are faster, fitter, better prepared and coached than the 70's players, they train harder etc so in that respect they are better. However you can't compare like for like re individual ability as the game has changed so much since then, we all like to think that when we saw the like of Wark, Pettigrew etc play for Motherwell they were great, and at the time they were but they can't be compared with today's players as the game has changed so much. So having started watching Motherwell in the late 60's early 70's I would have to say sometimes going to Fir Park or an away ground was a pretty miserable experience , in terms of facilities and the football on offer. Today's match day experience is light years away from that, we still get a good amount of miserable afternoons football wise, but at least we are comfier watching it.
  19. Simpler times.... dangerous unsafe grounds, no concept of customer service, non existent or appalling facilities, people bringing in carry outs aka weapons when empty, paying money to stand in the pushing rain for 90 mins, In this case things needed to change and they were very much for the better, all this "Football was better in the good old days" chat is nonsense.
  20. Mid table English championship is still a decent level, re quality of football and financially.
  21. I see the BBC gossip page allegedly has Luton Town interested in signing Allan Campbell. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/56804914
  22. Spot on, there are only 2 clubs in the premiership who are ever going to win it, of the other 10 there are possibly 4 or 5, Aberdeen, Hibs, Hearts, Motherwell, St J and Dundee untd, who will fight for a top 6 place and European qualification. The rest will be fighting relegation and hoping for an unlikely cup win. This has been a poor season for us, but in reality we missed a top 6 spot by a couple of defeats, so for me as a fan, a top 6 finish a decent cup run and a bid for a Euro spot would constitute a great season.
  23. I was referring to the form we were in off the back of the Accies and StJ shitfests we went there and nobody expected us to get anything other than a defeat. But we turned up with the right attitude and application and got a result, we need the same again.
  24. We were just as bad when we went there and won 2-0 , so it depends on what Motherwell team turns up on the day, if its the committed, in the hib s faces right from the off team, we are more than capable of winning, Hibs are an average side having a decent season nothing more.
