As soon as the keeper gifted the second goal panic set in and also gave Hearts the impetus they needed but we still assisted them with a gift 3rd. We shot ourselves in the foot but a number of Hearts fans on social media saying that is the best Motherwell team they've seen in years and that they were fortunate which they were.
-
No matter where we are tonight no one, absolutely no one, can say this Motherwell team isn't worth going to watch. Hopefully that will be reflected in a decent home support for the Kilmarnock game.
-
AP is slower than a week in the jail and that ultimately will costs him his place

For me we were undone by two bad keeping errors and once we conceded the 2nd Hearts tails were up. I don't think we needed to change tactics, we could still have got a 4th in the 90th minute but over elaborated, had we got to 80 mins with the two goal lead in tact we'd have been fine.
-
Actually i didn't think the defence played that badly. Ive seen people giving Balmer pelters. He made one mistake in the game and resultant shot the Hearts man got away should have been saved by the keeper and the 3rd one the keeper should have pushed away to the corner flag. We tired and stopped doing what we had been doing in the last 20 mins but in fairness Hearts stepped it up. Sure you should never lose a 3 goal lead but the pain of that will pass as it feels like a defeat right now but we took the piss out of Hearts for 60 mins the squad build is still ongoing , there is way more to be pleased about that not.

!00% agree if he turns in the kind of displays he did for RC we are well in.
-
Certainly not worth £250,000 so far.

You are joking he gets dogs abuse every time he posts about up coming games. The ridicule pile on.

I was looking forward to seeing McGhee when he signed. He was shoe in to walk straight into the team before the season started , however he might struggle to get into the team as things stand.
-
Why do folk on here get so animated about MJC's predictions. So what if he thinks we will get beat every game, its that's his opinion that's his opinion. Be a bloody dull world if we all thought alike.
-
My Favourite fixture of every season. Nothing better than beating them at Tynecastle , those instances are rare. Dont know enough about Hearts this season to make a call but it will be hard. I'd take a point now if offered.

St Johnstone V Motherwell 16/08/2025 🏆

We'd have lost that game under SK. There is no way we'd have dominated possession like we did. when we have the ball its hard for them to score. something SK could never fathom out. -

Correct SOD was too dramatic , it was like dead man fall as we played as kids (one for the older ones on here) and have to say rather than screaming fort the penalty I laughed at it. -

I got to admit I'm in a minority of one I think. I didn't think at the game the SOD incident was a penalty and even if there was contact the way he over egged his fall to convince the ref would have got a 0.1 at the Diving Olympics. It looked too contrived and that put enough doubt in the Refs mind it wasn't, even if on another day another ref might have given it. It was balanced out for me when he didn't give St J a penalty with the very last touch of the ball, I've seen them given. So as some have said , he was shite for both teams. Didn't detract from another good game by SOD, and the fact the Saints fans at the end were giving him pelters shows he was doing something right, even if my nerves struggle with the new style. The way he was winding them up after the final whistle just topped off another good team effort. I moaned like fuck during the GA and SK years that it was mind numbing pish we were watching so I'll take the nerves with the decent football. Its been many years since I looked forward as much to going to see us cos its entertaining. Hope it keeps going. -

Not too unhappy, when you get to the Quarters you need to be very lucky to get one of the lessers lights. Aberdeen are beatable , both teams will fancy their chances. the quarters are where we should expect to get to most seasons , anything beyond that is a bonus. -

Thought we were totally dominant today. Again nice football to watch too powder puff the first half but in the second we improved in the final 3rd. Should have been more comfortable than the score suggests. Said needs to sharpen up on his decision making for the pass however more than compensated for with effort and dig to win second balls. Osong looks like he could have something about him. When its 1-0 or 0-0 its always nervy but we really were in total control for 90% of the game. Was it just me or did anyone else think St J were unlucky not to get a penalty with the last kick of the ball? -

A big crowd always makes me nervous and I accept it may be my imagination but it seems we underperform more often than not when fans come out in numbers. That said we had 6000 against Rangers, historically a big home support for that fixture and we didn't blow it, Maybe this season will buck, what in my head, seems a trend of letting a big support down. -

I see sections A and B in the Main Stand are nearly sold out. They hold approx 950 and seats are starting to sell well behind the goal. A Motherwell crowd in excess of 1000 looks on the cards if the St Johnstone ground plan is accurate. That is a pretty decent turn out for the League Cup. The League Cup would never generate the same fans response as the Scottish Cup. So not too shabby for turnout. . -

The Best worst Motherwell Manager ever
FirParkCornerExile replied to SteelmaninOZ's topic in Club Chat
Best Tommy McLean just no contest. Took over a club in terminal decline. Finally built a great team over his 10 years, allowed us to build the stadium. Worst( a few contenders) : Jock Wallace, Malpas, Harri Kampman, Rodger Hynd, Bobby Watson, Billy Davies. They might not have had resources (except Billy Davies) but neither did others who made a better fist of it. Wee Davies is in there because he had the biggest budget outside the OF and took us to the heights of mediocrity. Malpas probably wins the award outright. -
what we have is arguably better than Halliday and at 33 years old he is not going to have the legs . Its just a natural winding down of his career at Fir Park I suspect.
-
"We kept the ball ever so well and won it back quickly when we did lose it" That was the most impressive aspect of our game.
-
We are not far away. Totally dominant today. Final ball was poor but I'll tell you this this Motherwell team are infinitely more watchable that the shite we watched under Alexander , Hammel and Kettlewell. I enjoyed the game again today , a goal would have rounded off a controlled professional performance. SOD had a fine game and I'll be interested to see the handball again that wasnt given. St Mirren really are a shower of dirty bastards..

For those going online to reserve a ticket when you open the ground Map only the main stand is highlighted in Blue, however the ticketing system does allow you to select seats behind the goal.
