League Cup Semi Motherwell v St Mirren 1/11/2025
FirParkCornerExile replied to grizzlyg's topic in Club Chat
You also forget even at our worst in the first half their keeper had to bring off a great save and Manwanhise fluffed an effort that should have been a goal. There is a lot of nonsense talked about St Mirren yesterday, plus they got the breaks. They basically just did their job effectively. They did nothing that we shouldn't have been able to deal with had our players turned up, there was no tactical masterclass. Virtually everyone of our player was posted missing or at best underperformed. Even as bad as we were we could have had them sweating but for a comedy of errors straight after we scored. On another day we'd take St Mirren, yesterday just wasn't our day. We forget it and move on. -

I doubt very much if JBA will get us a cup win or playing regularly in Europe. I suspect playing decent football , developing good players , increasing attendances and keeping the prospect of relegation at bay and decent cup runs will be as far as it goes and I'm happy with that. If JBA is successful in all of that he won't be with us long enough to take it further. It's the curse of the smaller clubs . If your successful that success is taken from you. -

There is so much bollocks being talked about tactics, formations, tactical genius blah blah blah. The simple reality is every one one of our players under performed from what we know they can. Every St Mirren player played to their potential. Play that game another day its a different result. St Mirren got the break of the crucial refereeing decision that settled them down to get them ahead. Even in the first half when we were at our poorest their keeper brings of a great save and manwanhise fluffs a great chance. We were really poor but the "excellent" St Mirren performance very nearly derailed. Had we not given away a comedy goal straight after we equalise I think St Mirren could have been rocking. Yesterday was a very fine margin despite how we underperformed. -

And why put fans to the expense of going to Edinburgh which would take a few thousand of the crowd when Hampden is right between Paisley and Motherwell. -

Apologies I wasn't meaning to have a go at you in particular. I just get fed hearing people talk about how it looks on TV. We are a small country and we have empty spaces in football grounds, it's normal. -

But there is no stadium other than Hampden , Ibrox and Celtic Park could have accommodated that attendance yesterday. Mind you if we get to another semi final our ticket sales might not be so good. I'm sure some fans are starting to question why they bother at semi finals, the die hards will be there but persuading the floating supporter will be harder based on our recent piss poor efforts. Right at this moment, I myself, question why I bother and couldn't care less if I never saw them again I'm so annoyed at yesterdays garbage against a very beatable team. However I do know that wont last. I'm glad our next game is away at Aberdeen cos I'm not interested in going. Be interesting to see what carry over this has to our improved attendances for the next home game. I think it will have some effect. -

I found the attendance a strange one. We sold 9000 tickets and St Mirren sold similar so where did the other 3337 come from? -

That's why I think we should have tried to keep Armstrong. -

A bit, more than a bit, we were garbage but St Mirren were an average team that played to their strengths. They were still the better team and were clinical and defended well. That's the killer, we wouldn't need to have been top notch to take them, semi competent would have been enough. They had 4 shots a goal and scored all 4 we had 4 shots at goal and got 1. They took the gifts we presented to them. That's not a hard gig in football. -

I'd add a left back to that too. In essence pretty much a new defence. -

We need a goalkeeper , left back, centre half and a centre forward as a minimum in January window. -

To these people saying we need to abandon the style play , you are talking nonsense. What we need is to replace players with guys who can do it and that's why the January window will be important. I'd rather watch us playing like we do even if we lose than watch the utter shite Kilmarnock fans are watching when they lose. -

Disgraceful performance. No point playing all the football and giving a team that's scored 8 goals in 10 games 4 goals. Our delivery into the box throughout the game was amateurish. To lose another two goals after getting ourselves back into it is up there with the all time Motherwell fuck ups. I'm not so sure they will get pumped. They are very good at what they do, people may not like it but they are big strong, can defend and can take chances when presented to them. All the omens before the game were good so no surprise we lost. That has been my life supporting Motherwell and to get absolutely shagged like that is shameful , utterly shameful. -

Probably wont be back on here until well after the game tomorrow. Hope everyone has a great day. Hopefully we will get the rub of the green and we are not talking about VAR or the officials after it. Fingers crossed we actually perform how we can, we have a big audience watching and would be great to let them see what we've seen most weeks. In the event we do go behind stay with the team, they have it in them to do the unexpected. -
Has anyone heard any update on Jordan McGhee. In July his injury suggested he'd be out for up to 8 weeks.

All systems go for the semi final now. Seems most of the pundits are making us favourites. I'm always nervous of expectations being on our side. Mind you pundits in general are no more insightful than the rest of us.. I think this game is just too close to call. Thought St Mirren looked good in the highlights against Hearts. A lot was being made before their game against Hearts that they'd only scored 6 goals but they did score 3 good goals against Hearts, one shockingly chalked off. Just need to keep my fingers crossed during the game 🤞 -

Pretty much how I saw it. Koutrombis worries me for the final, he has no pace and gets skinned too often for my liking. -

Apart from 15/20 mins in second half we dominated the game, played some nice stuff again and at times when required went long rather than risk it. I thought there was more variation in our game tonight. Scored two really good goals . Manwanhise should have had another and Hendry was unlucky to be cleared off the line. Not a bad attendance considering a midweek game and fans forking out alot of money last weekend and next. -
