  1. My initial thought was Halliday - he's been the most consistent but honestly if that's an accurate assessment it's a very poor reflection on our season. Miller is the more obvious choice, anything good that has come from the team he's been at the heart of it.
  2. For someone who wondered round aimlessly he found his groove with us in 2020 only to rush away at the first offer and has been pretty mince ever since. Bags of talent but there's something lacking. At 31 I don't foresee him offering much more and can play in the Scottish Championship next season. (fingers crossed not with us )
  3. I hear you @wellgirl that’s a valid point re Armstrong and I’m sure other players are similar and care about the club . . appreciate I have a bias for guys who have been with us for several years , eg Craggs , Hammell, Lesley’s of this world . I’m my mind the longer a player is associated with the club the more deeply they’re likely to care . A bit like us, the fans. what id like to see is more of the steady Jo’s who can be with us for long periods of time . Hence happy for likes of slattery and sod to stay on , same for me if Casey stays . Also why id like to see young Wilson back in the team and wee Al back with us next season .
  4. I hear you @El Grew and can see where you're coming from. The idea of playing teams twice certainly appeals - my biggest concern is there would be many meaningless games for many teams , yes we could play youngsters but I suspect fan numbers would reduce further. All if's buts and maybe's - good to debate different ideas.
  5. In terms of balance of league set up. for me the split works better than what we've seen in the past. A larger league of say 14, 16 would simply mean more teams with nothing to play for. It would mean several clubs come to final third of a season with SFA to play for. We'd still have 2 clubs fight for league. 2-3 other chasing Europe. 1-2 clubs fighting relegation. The rest would be a non event. As poor as Scottish football is, I personally think the current league set up is the best it's ever been. It's more the product on the park that's regressing.
  6. For me the McLean era highlights what we can do over a sustained period of time. Not easy but this is something we should be looking to replicate and accept we're a long term project. McLean built a team long term like you mention the likes of Maxwell, Arnott, Dolan, Griffin, Kirk and many others improved over the years, particularly when we brought in some quality (Russell, Cooper etc) I'd be delighted for the club to have a long term progressive plan, that see's us gradually improve each year. Short term we need more cohesion and a few players with a bit more fight about them. Feels a long time since we had the likes of Lasley, Hammell, Craggs of the world who were good enough for us and cared about the club. My simple view is we need less journeyman and more Wilsons of this world fighting for us and progressing each year, don't need to all be world beaters. PS if someone could give us a Cooper or a Russell well that's fine too :).
  7. Think time is up for McGinn . 34 years and out much of this season, from memory he a thigh injury last season that kept him out during our poor run. I'd let him go , time to look ahead and get something different. The clubs recruitment has been awful. The last few seasons have come down to this time of the season saying : 1) I hope we don't get drawn in the play offs. 2) next season will be better when we get rid of xyz. We have typically off loaded players only to replace them with something worse. Our squad is majority of journeymen from England - time to change the approach.
  8. For me it’s completely unacceptable in any football match not to have a shot on target . many of us got frustrated under kettlewell for reducing down to 2-3 shots , first one coming after the 65th min sub . but we’re regressing further and further - someone mentioned 5 shots in the last 4 games. It’s so far from being acceptable - I hope what wimmer is saying behind closed doors is different to what he said post match.
  9. another game that we needed to be all guns blazing - it's just poor poor poor. I'd just give him the tombola to use for the rest of the season - give guys like Wilson, Paton a chance. Id start playing our perm players who'll be here next year - hard to see what the loanees are offering.
  10. That's my point - when players don't give you the reaction you need then they should be dropped. Last week should have had a huge reaction after being thumped by Aberdeen and we were awful, shame on the players. This is where I'm looking for Wimmer to react and make changes. The squad is plenty big enough and I'd like to see a few changes to the line up together with the high press and 'knock your pan in' to attack minded players.,
  11. Perfect team selection for who's available. This is exactly what we need. Will be interesting to see how this compares - I'd like to see Wimmer adapt a different approach following the drudgery of recent weeks.
  12. It's normally @grizzlyg who's cracking the jokes but thankfully he's the voice of reason. The position we're in is not Wimmers fault but it is his problem to solve. He came in after the window and needs time, possibly years to sort out the mess. Irrespective of how we finish the season , the time for judgment is much longer in the future.
  13. Assume we all agree the high intensity approach is the way to go. I'd be happy to play 2 centre halves to enable another forward i.e Maswanhise. We need to play our wingbacks at an all out effort - we can always swap them out come 60 mins. Ideally same approach to the Dundee game and I'll accept any result that comes. What's not acceptable is the last 2 games and lack of reaction.
  14. Wimmer got a really positive reaction for a couple of games but that was fleeting. Saturday against Kilmarnock should have felt like a cup final. Still a chance of top 6, fighting for contacts, needing to bounce back from a humping against Aberdeen. Sadly we got nada , nothing. Mathematically we could get top 6. Realistically feel you'd need to be in the 'you must be smoking crack' category for this outcome. I hope Wimmer rings the changes and puts pace into the team. FWIW I'd be going with: Ox Gordon. Casey Sparrow Wilson Andrews. Halliday Slattery Miller Armstrong Maswanhise Tactics - Press , Press, Press with a view to brining on Thompson, Koutroumbis., Paton Moses when people get tired,
  15. Whe got gubbed by Aberdeen and needed a reaction yesterday . we didn’t get any reaction - we offered zero . Had a single shot on target . Talk of the sending off changing the game for me isn’t accurate ,we started badly and continued to play badly . We offered zero moving forward . The manager after a decent start has stopped getting a style of play that he’s asked for . we need a significant change in either approach , shape , personnel for next few games .
  16. Just watched the highlights - Ox needs to come back , keeper made a few saves but poor for both goals . in fairness most of the team could be dropped - pathetic performance today. hope we challenge the red card - I can’t see what the ref was thinking that this was deliberate foul play
  17. 4 point off a play off spot . We badly need a win to avoid that reality
  18. After a promising start against Dundee and Rangers the recent games have been poor with today being dreadful. What happened to the tempo etc etc etc. Feeling angry , end of season (I hope). Certainly is the end of end hope of any positive end to the season.
  19. 100% would love AC back. I had hoped we'd have gone for him in Jan, and can see he doesn't always start for Utd. I do recognise that I have a massive bias for those who came through the club. The likes of Hammell, Lasley, Pearson, McFadden, McDonald and of course Uncle Phil all went on to bigger things and came back adding value. I see Campell akin to a Lasley of the day, I'd love to see him back. As I say I recognise my bias.
  20. He's the ever present this season, he's not missed a game. When we play 3 man midfield he struggles, which was more due to our midfield being outnumbered and overrun. We've seen a much better version of him under Wimmer due to the set up. At most he'll be a squad player but we need to be careful not to just give everyone a contract or we'll have the same squad as this year. this is where I think we need to be ruthless otherwise we're signing up for more of the same.
  21. Agree with the sentiment, not many I'd way to keep. From the current squad Ox, Gordon , Slattery , Andrews are all pretty solid. Maybe Andrews and AP could be added to that list but overall pretty poor standard all round. Be delighted to see a reboot of our recruitment strategy, stating with replacing the recruitment team.
  22. This is a huge game for any player who wants to stick around next season. We need to come out the traps in the same way we did against Dundee . The reality is I'm not convinced many of our players are able to do that consistently.
  23. My perspective from yesterday is we simply don't have the right type of player or quality of player to play attractive , pressing football in a consistent manner. We were excellent in the first half against Dundee, it's more the exception than the rule. There have been flashes of decency but when all said and done we're not great shakes and will end up in the bottom 6. The key for me is Wimmer will need to be ruthless at end of the season, there's not many players we should retain. Equally how we bring in decent quality that improves the squad is going to be key. Who's good enough for a start every week. Keeper - Ox Defence - none Midfield - Miller & Slattery Forward - none given we need fit strikers who can score. it's a huge rebuild job and I feel would be a mistake to offer players contracts knowing they'll be squad players
  24. There wasn't a lot we did well to be analysed . Although I do think it's too early for him to be commenting on 'Well so a decent dodge by sportscene.
