  1. On the football front, I think that Aberdeen have been a team we have fared well against because they always play an attacking game against us that allows our strikers to have room, especially KVV, unlike many other teams who sit in and wait for us to fuck up. This time unfortunately I think that Aberdeen have improved enough to get a result - hopefully I’m wrong.

  2. No matter who we employ- especially if we were to go with Hammell - I think the fans will have to be very patient while things get sorted.
Defence is shot to hell confidence wise but I believe that can be fixed between the end of this window and the January one.
Midfield likewise but I think there are players there who can work if they are played correctly to their strengths and get the backing of the crowd.
Forward line is more difficult, KVV has talent but without space is limited so I see him better played against teams who don’t pack the defence or when we’re ahead and they have to come out. Shields put in some decent crosses and I feel he would prefer to have ball put in front of him to chase rather than snatch at crosses as he’s not quite sharp enough yet and hasn’t had any luck in front of the goals - strikers go through these phases and I hope he gets a lucky break soon. Efford is a strange one, will give his all but again it never seems to come off for him - reminds me a bit of Curtis Main.

Looking like a long hard season

Stuwell asked for something to compare our players performances too.

By looking at other players you can see that it's not just that they didn't produce much but they were barely involved in the game.

I also asked for KVV stats which you ignored so I went to the site you quoted from and from what I can see, offensively he had 1 shot, 2 dribbles, dispossessed twice, 1 bad control and no key passes, no crosses or through balls and 1 long ball. Not really any better than Morris or Shields but that fact doesn’t fit your POV.
As for other teams strikers I had a look at Hibs Who dominated against StJohnstone and Chris Cadden played 77minutes, offensively only has twice dispossessed  and three bad control, 1 cross and 3 long balls.
On the St J side, Jamie Murphy 61 minutes played 1 shot, dispossessed once, bad control once and one cross.

  4. We appear to have a proven working academy which produces a couple of players a year. There is a clear pathway to the first team but unfortunately, as we all know, the cream of the crop leaves before we even see them and all we can hope for is that they generate future income but at the moment it seems like it’s the Well society that’s paying for the academy.
The other youngsters who make it through to the first team are the hard working young players who will become professional players at or around our level, decent players who sometimes make mistakes but on the whole put in a shift and hopefully don’t get to much abuse. There very unlikely to be stars who go on to greater things but if we’re lucky they might just exceed everyone’s expectations.
As said these guys need more experienced guys around them and this is where the club has to target it’s small resources alongside taking a punt on one or two guys who can generate a return.
Bottom line is that free flowing exciting football plays second fiddle to the reality of trying to stay in the premiership.

Looking at Morris on Whoscored.com he managed 5 touches in the final third in 67 minutes and gave the ball away three times, passed it to a Motherwell player on touchline from inside the box once and crossed a high loopy cross for Sol's header in his only successful final third possession. Brutal.

Shields had 9 involvements in the final third over the 90 minutes but didn't manage to create anything at all other than the pass back to Carroll that led to the penalty. He had another two backwards passes to team mates, 3 crosses that failed to find a team mate and he lost the ball 3 times.

Efford had two in 20 minutes. The blocked shot and a poor cross.

It's not a shock that KVV is struggling with these chancers beside him.

Stats are great things that can be used to make any case/statement. What was KVV stats and how do our guys compare with similar guys in the rest of the league?

Big worry is we press too much and get hit on the break for even more embarrassment. Having said that, we gifted them the goal last night. We need to do better at creating clear chances and putting them away. Too many aimless hopeful balls into the box which their defense mopped up with ease. Their goalie had a few saves but all of them ones you would expect keeper to make.

I’ll go for 3-1 to us on the night.

I think they will sit in, our best chance will be shooting from outside the box and hope for a flick from the strikers or a deflection. Also along with this I’d be leaving someone up the park at corners that we can punt a long ball for him to run onto which would also require another fast player who can then try to get up to assist him. Therefore, KVV should be benched until we’re back in the game and they’re forced to come out. Some won’t like it but I’d have Teirney and Shields on from the start to try this with Morris, McGuire and Slattery all told to shoot as much as possible.

There's very little up there when he is fit in all honesty. I like van veen but how is he supposed to get any sort of run together when he's only fit for 1 in 2 games?

KVV is too much of a hot and cold player to put our faith in, add to that the fact he plays best when he’s got space and most teams - especially teams in a similar or lower budget as us - pack their defence against us and it’s no wonder he looks deflated most of the time.

Lots to dissect about the game tonight and I’ll give my opinion when not on my phone, but what was the song that the Well Bois sang towards the Sligo fans that got booed by the rest of the stand? I heard a few old boys shouting at them to “fuck off to ibrox with that pish” but couldn’t make it out.

“Sing in the chapel”pish - presumably because there Irish - very embarrassing ☹️

Alan Burrows listen to the fans and the stats, get this guy out of our club.

Alan Burrows and the rest of the board - you have fucked up by not putting the euro money into better quality players.
Tonight showed how shite we still are, unable to break down a defence and no one with the guile to play a through ball.
most league teams - the same as last season - will just sit back, soak up the poor crosses, high balls etc and then hit us with the one or two chances they get.
The board’s decision’s not to spend money on the squad will see us relegated.

I was reading an article about the Sligo keeper a few days back, born and bred in Motherwell and supports Celtic, I know thats not a generally surprising thing tbf but I hope we pop plenty past him. He is literally on the verge of moving to an English League One club, this tie will be likely his last for them.

Looking forward to the competitive football being back, a European run would be nice, hopefully we can take a decent scoreline over to Ireland with us.

The guy looked good last week. Might be difficult to put a few past him.

  11. Only seen tonight’s game and although the commentators spoke of how poorly Sligo played compared to there recent league games, apart from their keeper who looks good, I think that there’s not a lot to fear from them and I hope that I will leave FP next week safe in the belief that we’ve done enough that the away leg shouldn’t worry us - then again we are Motherwell, so nothing can be taken for granted.

I didn’t think it mattered who won, our first game was at home ?

Think it’s to do with not wanting both Welsh teams playing at home on the same day, might be similar to if rangers and Celtic were drawn at home at the same time but I’m only guessing.
