If you look at it like this. Hegyi- Gk Koutrumbis- RWB/CB ,Kaleta- RWB, Balmer- CB, Gordon- CB, Seddon-LWB Callahan-Cm, Slattery- CM, Sparrow- Cm, Nicholson - AM/Winger, Halliday- CM/LWB Stuparevic- ST, Watt- St/Wide, Stamatelopulos- St, Maswanhise- St/Winger Robinson - ST/Winger We have 6 Strikers at the club, (4 Fit) and playing with 1 upfront with Lennon Miller and Ewan Wilson either side of them then wondering why we aren't scoring as many as last season. Our business over the summer shows a plan to play in a 352/343 Imo but that's not been what's happened at all.
-
Apparently Ryan Jack is going to be signing for us from what I heard. (Take with a pinch of salt). If so I'm not massively keen but if he stays fit obviously a great player concerned with his injury record and the way our squad is currently looking. New boy looks very good. Reckon that will be us done business wise if Jack comes in as squad will be huge for a club of our size.
-
I forgot Halliday existed tbf, Wells will get loaned out in my humble opinion
-
This is the squad currently. Oxborough/Hegyi Mcginn/Koutrumbis Gordon/Balmer Blaney/Casey SOD/Kaleta Davor/Miller/Halliday Callahan/Slattery/Sparrow Wilson/Seddon Paton/Nicholson Moses/Robinson Stuparevic/Watt/Stamatelopolous Imo that's weak at RWb, Holding Midfield, and attacking midfield. That's a Kelltlewell/Recruitment team issue can't say they've not been backed as they've been allowed to bring in 13 of their own players.
-
Feels a reel risk not to be strengthining that area of the Pitch to me. SOD is a good back up but feel he lacks the pace for the role. Kaleta looked lost when he came on v Partick and the aussie boy hasnt been seen in a well shirt so I'll reserve judgement. At present the 2 areas I mentioned are our 2 weakest in my opinion and need reinforced. Could do with a holding midfielder aswell if we're being extremley wishful.
-
I don't mind the signing of Watt but can't help but feel we need a creative midfielder aswell as a Rwb bwfore I would be looking at another St
-
From what I've seen of Kaleta he looked like more a defensive wing-back which is not what you need in the system we are currently playing. Seddon looks not too bad tbf so a Lwb maybe not as big a priority as a RWB for me.
-
We need another couple of players in either way. We're lacking a holding midfielder and a more creative one. Could probably do with a Wing-back either side as well with a bit of pace about them if we're not going to play with wingers. Personally I'd be signing 2 wingers to give us some flexibility and the option of a change of shape. Mckinstry is available thought he was good in his last spell for us before we changed formation. Squad was poorly built wither folk like it or not we've signed players who I'm struggling to see how they'll get minutes when others come back. The shape in my opinion is all wrong but we'll see what we can do and hope we've got enough in the squad plus whoever else comes in to keep us up.

Might be jumping the gun but signing Sparrow seems to have been pointless considering he's probably 7th choice in Cm. That area is bloated and full of very average players. Callahan, Halliday, Sparrow, Davor none of which your desperate to see start. I'm not Patons biggest fan but i at least see what he offers in terms of his ball-carrying ability. Lennon obviously starts and they clearly are looking at bringing through Dylan Wells this season. Add in Nicholson and Slattery when they're back their's 8 players ahead of him. Anyone know when Slattery is due back feel like he's not really been mentioned in the press confrences.

L CUP Motherwell v Partick Thistle 28/07/2024
thewelllfan replied to SteelmaninOZ's topic in Club Chat
The formation is absolutley tragic without good wing-backs Seddon looked decent when he came on the Rwb looked absolutley lost. Additionally Blaney and Casey need to be so much better come the league. Think we need 5/6 bodies in still. - Holding Mid, 2 Strikers, Lwb, Rwb, Attacking Midfielder. 352 also to be played 541 with no wingers clearly doesn't work for us -
Think the new format will probably favour our clubs, good chance Celtic, Rangers, Hearts all make it out the League phase in the new format.
-
Imo that should be the goal every season, 4/5th couple of ties in Europe and seeded league cup draw.
-
Not to cause panic but if we're wanting to have a go for Europe this season we need another 5/6 players. I'd be bringing in 2 strikers and playing a 352 so we at least pose more of a threat since we don't have wingers. Still need a LWB as much as I'd like to see Wilson the premiership will eat him alive he's looked leggy after 60 mins against lower league opposition. Still need a holding midfielder. We also need a creative midfielder to replace Spittal with all the injuries we've got in that area of the pitch. IF I'm was being extremely optimistic I'd like another CB preferably with a bit of pace about them but we do have 6 options in that area so don't think it's overly likely.
-
Trying not to overreact but why does he keep playing 541 with no wingers you either play 5212 or you bring in 2 wide players with pace so we are at least a transitional threat. Painful watch.
-
I mean Nicholson has impressed me since he came in. Paton is a bit hit and miss but you've just got to hope he performs Lennon and Slattery are also creative enough from that area for me not too be overly worried. also think with 8 signed players in that area and the talk of Dylan Wells breaking through their won't be any more addditions in that area.
-
So our squad going into the 1st game of the season Oxborough/Heygi Balmer/Mcginn Gordon Casey/Blaney SOD/Koutroumbis Miller/Davor/Callaghan Slattery/Halliday/Sparrow Seddon/Wilson Nicholson/Paton Moses/Stuparevic Bair/Robinson I suspect we'll sell Bair. Hopefully we bring in another Wing-back either side and a St if Bair is to leave.
-
I;m a day late I don't know if me eyes are decieving me we offered Bevis Mugabi a new deal? Seems like a lovely guy but hes a poor Cb and definetley not someone we need going forward
-
Why on earth are we giving Slattery another deal he's been inured for 6 months.
-
I reckon Halliday would do a job LWB. He can pass and cross the ball well and got a decent strike on him. Gent has been very good so will be tough to replace
-
Disagree with Casey being a bombscare feel far more confident when he's in cb compared to the the other then again that's not saying much.
-
To be completley honest as good as Bair has been I'd be cashing in. Don't see him replicating the same numbers next season and his value will drop. Build the team next season around Lennon Miller and ideally get him to sign on for another year to protect his value. Seen a lot on here wanting to keep Mcginn I don't mind him but he makes too many mistakes for me i'd be bringing in a whole new back 5 only Cb I'd keep is Dan Casey
-
Well with the season over I can comfortably say that's probably the worst defensive unit i've seen 3 CS in 38 games is criminal
-
Obika seems like a nice enough guy but I have never understood his signing he's been injury prone for years,
-
On Murray you may well be right but we still should be in for him. On Bair if we get anything around 1.5M for him your taking it and running only way we'd get more is if there's a bidding war.
-
I don't think if we keep him for another season hell get the same number of goals and assits think with Spittal leaving his numbers will drop off to probably 15 G/A next season. So personally I'd take the money and try get Simon Murray if County end up going down
