Yeah, even a year a ago would have helped him.
We're now, what, almost two years down the line from his first start for Motherwell, and the truth of the matter is he's no further forward as a first team player. Yes, you could argue he's not been given a run of games, but you could counter that by saying he's not shown enough in the cameos he's had (I believe it's one assist and no goals) to be given those starts. Catch 22 I suppose.
If he continues as is until January, he simply has to get out on loan to play first team football. It would be a real shame if it were to fizzle out until the end of his contract.
While I always support bringing young players through and doing our best to tie them to long term deals, we are now looking at the possibility in three and a half year deals given to Thomas and Watt amounting to very very little.
