  1. From the Evening Times.... McGhee roasting saved me from the heap JIM O'BRIEN has thanked Mark McGhee for saving his career...after telling him to grow up and become a team player. The former Celtic winger was trying to win a contract in the summer when the Motherwell manager told him his game lacked maturity. That wake-up call resulted in O'Brien putting in a more disciplined display in a pre-season friendly against Wolves. And that helped to earn him a two-year deal. The 21-year-old, who was farmed out to Dunfermline and Dundee United, still had to wait almost five months for his first start. But he has not looked back since getting the nod for Motherwell's victory over Inverness last month. Motherwell have taken 10 points from the four games O'Brien has started - and he set up David Clarkson's goal in Sunday's 4-0 thrashing of Dundee United with a defence-splitting, first-time pass. "In my two loan moves, I grew up a bit," said the Republic of Ireland Under-21 international. "I've learnt how to grow up on the pitch. "I've become more disciplined, and that's down to the manager and his assistant Scott Leitch. "He sat me down just before the Wolves game in pre-season and said If you continue the way you're going, then basically you are going nowhere'. "He told me I was still playing like a little kid and had to grow up. They have both worked hard with me and I hope I've turned that corner myself." Despite making 10 substitute appearances, O'Brien admits he is only now feeling like he is making a proper contribution to Motherwell's cause to pitch for a Uefa Cup slot. "I feel more part of it now that I'm playing," said O'Brien. "I came in, and obviously we got a couple of results. "So you have got to believe you are making some sort of contribution to the team." Maros Klimpl

Is there any way we can persuade Klimpl's club that he's really Mugger Malcolm in disguise? Just until we get him permanent........
  3. Superb coverage, Pie. Are you not supposed to do something daft like let a sheep bite yer bum? Daft things usually happen to Telly Reporters!
  4. Very well done indeed!! Any success 'Well-related is brilliant.
  5. Superb stuff. Would love the full 90 of that one, why weren't BBC Alba there?!?!
  6. That was definetly 2-0 up at the break, and three-n-easy in the second. Magic night that one!
  7. TC scored the opener as it poured down the whole afternoon. Looked good, then we just collapsed. Horrendous day....
  8. I know it's a cup game, and the pitch, wind, etc are all in the mix, but compare this. Forfar cracked six past Forres. Inverurie then scraped a 2-1 win against the same. We do it professionally, then this game should be no hurdle at all. There would be no excuse good enough for anything other than a solid, convincing win here.
  9. Just got it in me Yahoo mailbox. Quality stuff, well done to all involved!
  10. Er, aye, that should've been corresponding week-end fixture............
  11. Saturday put to bed, at long last, a game on the corresponding Saturday 21st January 1995. Despite taking the lead, we had an absolute mare and let in six the other end. That's that one done and gone, only wish I'd been there to see it on Saturday after having to endure that one 14 years ago! Still, magic result all the same.
  12. Think it was from 88 yards or so. Aye, it was a long-range effort I'm sure. And a good goal at that, not like the one O'Boyle was gifted in a certain other match we'll just forget about now....
  13. Yer right you know! That was the previous occasion I can recall, was also the game when Stevie Hammel was accused of racial comments against Sylla, and Adams was sent off for clubbing the same I think... 14. Can't confirm righ tnow, but I'm pretty sure we were 3-0 up during one of the two humpings we gave Dunfermline late 80s at EEP. Think it might have been the 5-0 Johnny Gahagan match. That probably was the last time before today that I can think of.
  15. D'ye know, I think we've all underestimated just how outstanding a result this was today. United are unbeaten against the top two with draws both home and away. Today was only their second defeat since the end of August, and their first at Tannadichie since then. It's also, incidentally, our biggest win there in the league since 1931-32! We deserve much more in the way of plaudits than we are currently receiving. On a side note, that 12-1 game. Did you know we lost the return at Tannadichie 1-0?!!!!
  16. AHHHHH, brilliant!!!! Was in Newcastle today and was gutted to miss this. Started on the way home about 2.30, so was listening to updates on the radio before being in radio range for the second half. Almost drove off the road on the way back when the fourth went in. FAn-bloody-tastic!!!!!

    Chris Porter

Porter: Doesn't fancy Huddersfield PORTER TURNS DOWN TERRIORS SWITCH Motherwell striker Chris Porter has turned his back on a switch to League One side Huddersfield said to be worth £200,000. Fir Park manager Mark McGhee accepted an offer from the English League One club while Hearts are reportedly looking to sign the former Oldham player on a pre-contract agreement. But McGhee told the Scottish Daily Express that Porter, 25, is unlikely to be going anywhere until the summer. He said: "I have spoken to Chris and as things stand he won't be going to Huddersfield. "We have given Huddersfield permission to speak to Chris, but he has indicated that it isn't really a move he fancies. "He came up to Motherwell to further his career and then to return to England at a higher level and he feels going to Huddersfield defeats that purpose. "I think his agent will speak to Huddersfield out of courtesy and unless they make him an unbelievable offer, I think he's likely to stay at Motherwell until the end of the season."
  19. Certainly some areas of high pressure there.......! Think she could say just about anything and no bugger would give a damn. You'd still be wondering what the weather forecast actually was.........
  20. Aye, I mind that. Accidentally came across the darts one night, certainly different.....
  21. There were a few times she used to come on in the mornings and there were a couple of peaks in between a trough......... Now, as Linda La Hughes once said, "dirty old slapper who's been on TV....."
  22. There's no way I could compare to that. I mean, just look at the way she's got her bottom hand.....
  23. Oi! That's ma joab.............
  24. Old Squirm players probably complained we were too much of a contest for them. Their loss, that's for sure.

    Chris Porter

£200,000 is £200,000 more than we got him for. However, I'd be looking for at least two-and-a-half times that before letting go. If you are happy here, then please let us know what it would take to for you to stay, Ports.
