  1. Deal done. Working at The Herald has some benefits!!!

A lot of good performers late night, but my vote went to Forbes who was terrific in midfield. Great range of passing, comfortable on the ball and always available to receive a pass.
  3. A very good night all round. Easy bus journey from Glasgow, nice couple of pre-match beers and a comfortable passage into the next round! Great to see some young guys play their part, thought Forbes at times ran the midfield and young Lawless was tremendous too, took his goal very well. It was great to be able to make a few changes, meaning that much of the starting X1 at Dunfermline this Saturday will be fresh and raring to go.
  4. I certainly would freshen the team up, its clear some need a wee rest, and tomorrow seems the ideal opportunity to do that. For me I'd start Page, Halsman, Carswell, Forbes and McHugh, allowing the likes of Craigan, Hammell and Lasley to rest up ahead of our visit to The Pars on Saturday. So this would be my side: Hollis Hateley Hutchinson Page Halsman Carswell Forbes Law Murphy Higdon McHugh Subs: Randolph, Smith, Pollock, Lawless, McKinnon That team should be good enough to beat Division Three Clyde, albeit they are unbeaten and definitely a tougher proposition than last year. 3-0 Motherwell with Higdon off the mark.
  5. Very disappointing once again facing that mob. They seem to have the measure of us every time we face them. It is laudible that we tred to impose our passing game on them, but I'm sure we'd all have settled for a more pragmatic approach if it brought a better result. Horses for courses and all that. We gave them too much room at times, but in fairness guys like Davis and Jelavic are absolute class, and they did counter attack with pass and precision. However as others have said, perhaps we did leave ourslves exposed by pushing our full backs too high up the field. The stick for Higdon is, in my view, over the top. He was isolated for large sections today, although he did battle well and won plenty ball. In his four games he's hardly been given a decent chance to score. As soon as that changes he'll score a few and set up even more, I feel sure of it. Regarding Hump, yes he didn't do too much going forward, but he does at least work for the team defensively, always tracking back with his man. Perhaps the main problem is the lack of experienced options on the bench, which is something we sorely need to address. Mind you, would it have hurt to throw on Lawless and McHugh with fifteen minutes to go? These lads must be wondering if McCall rates them. I expect to see a few of them feature at Clyde on Wednesday though. All in all, we're sitting joint top after five games having lost only once. The big picture aint too bad I suppose.
  6. I like the look of this team, although I might have Forbes in a more attacking role, leaving Las and Jenno to anchor the midfield. It also means we can unleash Hump in the last 20 minutes. Predictions here tend to be pointless, as when heart rules head we mostly come unstuck!! Any realistic comments are frowned upon too, but must surely be understandable by now! Me? I tend to be stuck between both stools, and this Sunday I'm predicitng a draw due to their injuries and tiredness after their European exertions. That will mean we don't get any credit for continuing our great start to the season, but frankly I couldn't care less!! Mon the Well!!

The whole defence worked hard and did their jobs very well, but my vote went to Forbes, who for me shone in his best position.
  8. That was a fantastic three points, if a little undeserved! yes the home side had more possession and territory, but Randy had one healf-hearted save to make, whereas Samson made about five great stops. We were a little slack at times, but we defended superbly, especially in front of goal. Hateley's free kick was a peach, and what a celebration when it went in! Still top after four games, and for me the best stat is no goals against. If we keep that sort of defending up we'll do very well.
  9. Thought Hateley was tremendous today, his best game for a while.
  10. Delighted with the result today. It was one we had to tough out at times, but we did play some nice fitba too. Hearts had no intention of making this a fitba match, preferring to sit deep, pass the ball about the back and kick us all over the park. O'Reilly was up to his usual, talking to our lads for a soft foul whilst allowing their thugs to do what ever they pleased. On that note, Ian Back is a dirty wee junkie scumbag. So, top of the league and still unbeaten. What delights me most is our clean sheet record. If you have a solid defence then you give yourself a chance of winning. So for all the praise guys like Murphy and Law have received, the same has to be said of Crags and his fellow defenders. St Midden next week, here's hoping for another win. Would be nice to have the Blue Filth here with us still top!
  11. Well said, completely agree with that.
  12. This is one of these matches that could go either way or be a draw, and none of those results would be a surprise! It is too close to call, for me a lot will depend on the Jambo's result tomorrow night, in terms of confidence and injuries etc. I expect us to be unchanged, although I feel we won't get away with making no changes like last week. We need to trust guys like Forbes, Saunders and Smith from the bench, maybe even young Lawless too. Some of our lads were tiring at Killie but stayed on, and it could've cost us the game. A draw looks like the best bet, but I'm hoping we have the creativity to pinch it 1-0.
  13. Sure this offering will be of the same high quality as the rest of your back catalogue. Put me down for a copy please!
  14. Happy with the draw, should be fairly comfortable and a chance for the likes of Forbes, Page, Carswell, Pollock and Halsman to get some game time, plus McHugh, Smith and Lawless too. It will allow us to rest Craigan, Lasley and Hammell at least, which given our thin squad is a real bonus. Regarding travel, I see the nearest train station is Croy. Its a 15 minutes train journey from Queen Street then a 20 minute walk to Broadwood. Anyone local to there able to confirm?
  15. I thought he was more of a winger, could be wrong though. if so then great, we could do with some extra experienced attacking cover.
  16. All in all I wasn't disappointed with the result yesterday. At times we played some good fitba and made some decent openings, but sadly we lacked the killer ball in front of goal. That will come though, I'm sure of it. By and large we were very solid defensively, however Hutch and Hateley almost sold the jersey a couple of times with poor distribution. Need to keep an eye on things like that. In terms of the quality of the game, my own view is that I'd rather see teams play like us and Killie did yesterday when conditions are good, rather than be very route one and negative. Perhaps when pitches deteriorate and the weather is nasty we'll have to adapt, but right now we have the players for a patient passing style, and for me its very easy on the eye. We won't always make and/or convert loads of chances, but we seem to be going about it the right way. Kudos to the 'choir' just to my left yesterday, showed the team some great vocal and visual encouragement from minute one, keep it up lads!
  17. I will be surprised if its easy on Saturday, it never usually is at Killie. If we take the positives from the ICT game into Saturday I foresee a Motherwell win, but if we go behind I just wonder if we have enough from the bench to make a difference. Killie will be an unknown quantity this season given so many players have left, so its tough to predict how it'll go. I'd be happy with any win, and I'm going to say 1-0 with Higdon opening his account.

A very tough call, lots of good performances today. My vote went to Nicky Law, who for me was the spark that ignited the outstanding team display.
  19. Terrific display all round today. Some magnificent fitba, especially in the first half, was very easy on the eye. Law, Hammel and Murphy should be a very potent weapon down the left for us, until of course some of the dirty big cluggers of the SPL injure them! Defensively we had to contend with a bit of pressure, and by and large we dealt with it alright. Overall I'm very happy with the style of fitba we're playing, a couple of further additions to the squad and I reckon we'll make Top Six nae bother. Top of the league, suns oot, the world is a great place!!!
  20. I do expect it to be a tight encounter, they usually are against ICT. They have improved as a side, but have lost a number of stalwarts, so who knows how they'll be on Saturday. We have looked good pre-season, and if we can play our fitba I reckon we'll have too much for their defence to cope with. My only concern would be that we need to tighten up at the back, as well as being more clinical in front of goal. I'm going for a Well win, 2-0 sounds about right.
  21. Don't suppose anyone is going from Motherwell or Wishaw and is willing to give me a lift? Cheers in advance folks.
  22. Very positive after today's performance. We played some very good fitba and on another day would've netted another couple of goals. At times we outplayed Leeds and there's no way we deserved to lose. Randy will never make another error like he did today, and although Gradel and Nunez liked very well for the winner, there was a suspicion of offside. If we can play like that throughout this season then Top Six is almost certain. That said I'd like us to bring in AT LEAST another two signings in order to be fully competitive and account for injuries etc.
  23. Sneaky feeling, or inside knowledge??!!!!!
  24. Disappointed that the Cooper Stand is closed, seems a very late decision to me. Will the bar be open or will we get into the Centenary again?

If you had nothing else on the go, and wanted to work to show those banks what you could, then yes, why not?!!
