  1. Does a 2000 fan minimum mean clubs like Accies need to throw people into the ground to make up the necessary numbers? (Aye, I know it doesn't - it just seems a very weird way to phrase it).
  2. I miss the old days when you could sign players without the need to swoop.
  3. And Leicester City should never have signed Jamie Vardy from Fleetwood Town. Probably a good idea to write him off now. Then when we coach him into a better player, the usual suspects can start complaining about not tying down players to longer contracts and moaning that we never get high transfer fees.

Although, Robinson had the opposite view that he sometimes didn't have enough self-belief.
  5. Zaine Francis-Angol wins promotion to the football league with Hartlepool who earned victory in a penalty shoot-out in the play-off final. (Torquay keeper had equalised with a header in the 95th minute of normal time).

Another O'Donnell piece in The Guardian: ‘I love your calves’ – what Scotland’s Stephen O’Donnell told Jack Grealish
  7. The white one Wullie P is wearing always looked great under the floodlights on a wet Wednesday night at Fir Park.

Although the author of that one may just be a wee bit biased Good to see a positive reaction to the stick he was getting, even it if was the usual over-the-top hysteria from an OF slanted media.

Give what he said about wanting to stay local so him and his wife would be near family and friends, I'd be surprised if he moved down south. (Of course, money talks).

Gallagher was always 3rd in line (at best) for a starting spot. He got his chance due to withdrawals and, like a few others in the same boat at the time, stepped up and put in a couple of great performances to get us to the finals. I don't think it's a surprise that he's dropped back to his original position in the queue for starting slots, though.
  11. A closed door match. Or as we are now used to calling them, "a match".
  12. I think it looks good on shirts with no hoop or band.

The best thing about O'Donnell being in the Scotland squad is that it gives 'Well fans a target to moan about in the close season.
  14. I wonder why they bother scheduling all of our OF games at 3pm on a Saturday. Chances of any of them kicking off on that day/time are zero.

It is. We've had players like Gary McAllister who we developed in the youth system and captained Scotland in Euro 96 but he wasn't capped until after he left Motherwell.

In most tournaments I'd agree with that. With the weird 24 team format (which is ridiculous for a competition that used to have only 8 finalists) one win is likely sufficient to move on. So I can see us losing our next game then taking a 1 - 0 lead in the final game and conceding late. What it won't be a is a "glorious failure".

Big Dec may not be the flavour of the month on here, but I reckon he wouldn't have conceded the first goal. Our big issue coming into this competition was lack of fire power, and we are no closer to solving that one. Of course, this is Scotland and those of us old enough to remember other finals know that we'll find a way to give ourselves hope going into the final game and then find a unique way to be eliminated.

Tommy Coyne was the first Motherwell player to play in a World Cup - but that was for Ireland.

Only interacted directly with Andy a few times via messaging on this site and, as others have said, he was always nothing less than pleasant and helpful. When the worst thing you can say about a man is that he misspelled Mugabe once, you know he was a top bloke He'll certainly be missed around here.
  20. It's about this time every year I stop reading the Rebuild/Transfer/Ins&Outs thread and just wait on official announcements from the club. Maybe it's the pandemic, but it seems even worse than usual this time around.
  21. Maybe it's just me, but how often a striker smiles is at the bottom of the criteria I use to assess their ability.
  22. If you have any facts, then feel free to share. Otherwise, it remains pure speculation.
  23. The top of the Championship is very competitive as the newly relegated teams are wallowing in the massive parachute payments they receive. The bottom half is a bit more variable in quality as some of the teams like Ipswich and Sunderland found themselves passing through to lower divisions as their form dropped off a cliff. Barnsley were in the mix for promotion last season, so definitely a good move for him. You can't criticise a player for backing himself to succeed. I'm always a believer in the philosophy that there are more good players out there than there are available first team starting slots. So now it's up to the management/coaching staff to find the next one.
  24. Is there a set of Shoot! League Ladders we can use to track the tourney or do we just have to make do with a wall chart?
