  1. Aye, he needs to be staying on his feet for that one. Bright start, though. Even Hastie putting in a decent shift so far. Although Watt back to his old tricks of missing our best chance.
  2. If he's still in Portland that's about as close to me as Motherwell!
  3. Sounds like a decent option, and glad the Board didn't take too long given the transfer window is up and running.
  4. and journalist for the Manchester Evening News.
  5. Not sure why I'd be bothered watching St Johnstone in the Scottish Cup, but as far as Motherwell are concerned, I've been watching them for about 50 years with zero expectation of winning anything. The best I hope for is some entertainment and at least an attempt at some decent football. I know that doesn't always happen, but if the manager's philosophy is to intentionally adopt a negative anti-football style of play, I would stop watching. I only get to see the vast majority of the games on the MFC stream anyway, and that already diminishes the experience without adding to the misery with donkey ball.
  6. I'm serious. I'd rather watch teams try to play a bit of football and fail than set up to team just to stop the opposition. I have zero interest in anti-football tactics.
  7. I'd rather be relegated than watch a season's worth of St Johnstone-esque football.
  8. That will probably depend on ScotRail.
  9. If I had to guess I'd guess a bridge closure.
  10. He probably insisted on having Isla St. Clair as his assistant. (One for the auldyins)
  11. He picked up the one Chapman let drop through his fingers from his photo shoot.
  12. We've signed Nick Pope as our new keeper?
  13. Given our track record with management appointees I would not be surprised if there are people we are interviewing who have not been mentioned anywhere.
  14. Brophy has 2 league goals this season, so he'd be a prefect fit with the rest of our low digit wonders.
  15. I agree with that, and I'd also argue he's used to working with a bigger budget than we can offer.
  16. Salford have ideas above their station. From the games I watched, Alexander was doing just fine - he just didn't give them the instant success they thought they were entitled to. Salford have dropped down the table since he left and are out of the playoff positions, so whatever their plan was, it hasn't worked yet. Given his knowledge of the lower leagues and the fact he was head of youth development at Preston, I can see why he ticks a few boxes. Of course, I've no idea what kind of job he'd do for us.
  17. Tommy Wright spent the last two seasons moaning he wasn't getting enough money from the St Johnstone board. Given they have a much bigger budget than we do, I can't see how he'd deal with the cut in funds. Also, I'd rather stick my head in a vice than watch a St Johnstone style performance every week until the end of the season. If we end up playing that style of football I'm giving up.
  18. I agree it's unfair to judge him on 2 days. I don't just think he's the the right man for the job for now. He has been a key part in the management/coaching partnership this season that has landed us where we are and he has zero management experience. If Robinson had left because he'd been poached and the team was in a positive state, it would be a different story, but examples all round the leagues tend to show that when you are in our position you need an outsider with fresh enthusiasm and no baggage. It's tough on Las, and I hope we can find a position for him in the club, but that is the downside of being an assistant manager.
  19. At the start of the season I thought he'd be away in January, so no big surprises here.
  20. I hope we don't bring in a new manager based having Lasley as his assistant. It would be hard on Las (unless we can keep him around in a different capacity), but the hard fact is that when you are an assistant you tend to get hired and fired in pairs. I wouldn't want Wright for a number of reasons. The biggest one being his complaints before he left St Johnstone that the board weren't giving him enough money. If he thought the budgets were tight in Perth he'd struggle at Fir Park. If we are doing a 6 month contract with a view to a broader search in the summer, then maybe Wright would work, but it feels like it would be more of the same. It seems to me like we need someone to lighten things up and bring in a bit of positivity and, at least in his interviews, Tommy does not strike me as being that guy.
  21. We could, but I'm not sure that's how the process works. I seem to recall there is a pretty long procedure to be followed through the proper channels and, at this point in time, FIFA hasn't determined Columbus has done anything wrong. Until the full process is followed and, if necessary, FIFA render a decision, I doubt we'd have much success. I think 'Flow said that could take at least a couple of years to resolve if Associations involved can't reach agreement. It's further complicated by the fact the MLS obviosuly don't fall under UEFA jurisdiction.
  22. I wouldn't want McLeish as gaffer, but to be fair, he has admitted himself that he screwed up that piece of his time at Fir Park. That was early in his career though and he did improve after that.
  23. Pretty much sums it up for me. I'd add a creative midfielder that can score 9 or 10 a season, but those other 3 are a higher priority for January.
  24. Another reason we need a new face in as manager. When you hit these patches it's more about confidence than anything else. A new gaffer with no baggage or history with the current season is needed to inject a fresh approach. There's plenty of good arguments that we need to strengthen the squad, but the core of this team should have enough to be a middling Premiership team.
