While I'm not a fan of full backs playing on their wrong side, SOD has played at left back quite a few times and could no doubt provide cover there too.
-
I imagine the SPFL would just set the price at normal league game levels.

Any rumours about free agents? (I don't have the energy to watch any of the live window reporting)
-
I'd prefer a permanent move over a loan - not a fan of loans from clubs in the same division. I have no idea how good he is, but JBA is looking for a player that can fit into his system better than our current central defenders. You can argue whether that makes them a better player, or just a better fit.

Same when we signed Chris Porter I seem to remember. High risk because of his dodgy knee.
-
Maybe we have.

I wouldn't be surprised if Miller has to wait a few weeks before he gets game time. Takes a wee while to settle in to a new league with a new style, and he wasn't match fit when he signed.
-
Agree about Ward. It was a foul, but keepers get away with GBH when they jump for a ball he and needed to be bullying the Killie players out the way.
-
I'm hoping they are heading north on the M74 ready to be unveiled on Monday,

I think we could play McGhee, Just, Watt, Fadinger, Priestman and Halliday in centre midfield and SOD and Sparrow out wide mid. When it comes to central defence, we have far fewer options - which is why I see that as a priority.

4 games in, it's night and day compared to most of what we watched last season. Of course there is frustration that we haven't closed out the last couple of games, but I'd rather be frustrated that we're playing well and missing the finishing touch, than playing poorly. We knew it was going to be a process, and if anything, I'm actually pleasantly surprised at how quickly the players have adapted to the new approach. Still need a central defender or two, so here's hoping we see a deadline announcement.

Longelo is the kind of player we usually end up bringing in on a loan. Very happy we managed to finally sign a left back with his qualities. He edged it for me, but another day where there were multiple contenders.
-
We have quite a few midfielders, and a few players who can cover in mid (like SOD), so if I had to choose, I'd still be looking at defenders first. I know it doesn't always work that way, however, as we can only sign who is available and wants to join.

Player swap? Or maybe just making space for a new defender.

This. I don't mind giving certain ex players and managers a bit of stick, but I'd much rather be getting behind our players as our 4th or 5th goal hits the back of the net.
-
We need a central defender much more than we need a left back.

I think it was a poor choice because Rangers have a very poor record of developing young Scottish talent. They might prove me wrong with Rice, but their recent history is very much throwing money at overseas imports.

Depends if you want to see us in Europe again, or Scotland in a World Cup finals again or attract a better quality of player to the club again. We also get a decent payment from UEFA at the end of the season that's based on how well the Scottish teams perform. Not giving a monkey was anyone thinks abroad of our game is the same attitude the people running our game have had for decades. It's why we are in the dark ages in many aspects. We see JBA as an innovator, when he's really just implementing an approach that modern teams have been using for the past decade. There's a reason we went for foreign managers in our last couple of appointments. I appreciate that the extra cash can give those teams a financial advantage - but it hasn't done them much good in recent years. So on balance, I think it's better for everyone if Scottish teams do well. Although I'm never disappointed to see the OF crash and burn at any time.

JBA could definitely take him in a fight.

I got my info from, amongst other places, The Scotsman online: When does the Scottish transfer window close? When is transfer deadline day? The Scottish Premiership transfer window officially opened on Monday 16 June 2025, though in a change to usual summer windows, an additional transfer window was created between 1 June and 10 June, allowing clubs involved in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup to register players. The Scottish Premiership transfer window will officially close on Monday 1 September, at the earlier time of 7pm. This is slightly earlier than the last few windows and is aligned with many of the top European leagues. Talksport agrees: The Premier League, EFL and Scottish Premiership summer transfer windows will close on Monday, September 1, at 7pm. Maybe we should jsut get everything done by Monday morning to be sure.

Or just be really really nice to him. Even after we win 4 - 1.

Talking about slowish stars to the league, Derby were 19th last season are sitting 20th this season with 2 losses and a draw. Johnston is a good player. If Derby County was the best option his agent could find for a move to England, he needs a new agent. As far as money goes, I hope he is on a good deal, but if the figures are to believed, he was on £7,900 a week in Austria, which would make him the 5th or 6th best paid player at Derby if they match it. Of course there are lots of good reasons to want to live and work closer to home, and it doesn't all need to be about the money. I just hope he gets game time.

Window used to close at 11pm, but the leagues agreed to close at 7pm this time
