  1. I wonder if the Well Society lighting up fivers from Bair's fee and waving them in Barmack's face had anything to do with him withdrawing his offer.
  2. Dundee and Ross county have owners with deep pockets who are happy to fork out wads for specific players e.g. Charlie Adam. The exact opposite of the model we are currently operating. And a model that has put Dundee into administration twice in recent years - including a 23 million pound debt and having to sell their stadium. If the choice is between that and developing another Bair, I know my preference.

That would certainly be ideal, but even in better economic times, I agree there would be no chance of that happening. (Or worse, they'd want to open it up to the community by laying an artificial pitch).
  4. If there is a 15-20 goals a season out there who is available and who we have heard of, you can guarantee we can't afford him. Whoever we sign will be someone with potential, not an impressive track record.

I'm getting old, but I'd rather have a half full 10,000 seater than a full 7,000 seater. I like a wee bit of space to move around and get in and out.

I use AI to do that for me.

It would, but looking at the details is cost about 11.5 million to build 20 years ago. Unless we find some serious cash or a generous partner, we'd struggle to afford that - and no doubt that price would be about 20 million now. We could probably recoup some from the sale of Fir Park, but would still leave a large wad to find.
  8. If that's the snidest SK comment you have left today, you need a lie down.
  9. How long before he gets his Martian orders? (one for the Bugs Bunny fans)
  10. No idea - that info was from a poster a few weeks ago who sounded like they knew what they were talking about.
  11. That plus the payments we get for Kelly and Theo being on international duty is a nice windfall and shows, yet again, that developing players doesn't just mean from the academy. We have a number of examples now where older players (both on-loan and MFC) have gained international recognition during their spells with us.
  12. Yes, according their home page. Although sometimes that changes nearer the day.

That's a long way of saying fans would be bothered, because if we could afford anything at all, there's no way we could afford anything other than a generic "lego" stand The new stadiums I've been at often have the same issues with leg room. I think every seating designer must clothes shop in the childrens department.

Sounds like we need a big Hollywood investor to inject some cash.
  15. I'm sure SK will have been planning for that knowing that it was a near certainty Bair would be moving on. Strikers are always a gamble though. As well as being confidence players, they need to fit in to the system. SK has done well managing that with Bair and van Veen, so hopefully the new intake of strikers will have similar success (or at least one of them does).
  16. SK has already said he's planning to bring in 2 or 3 more players. Zero chance, however, we spend an extra million on new faces.
  17. You'd hope so. Yet every transfer window we hear the absolute judgements in every player who is "shite", " too slow", "can't pass", " can"t tackle", "can't shoot", " wage thief" etc. Same as the absolute judgements that are tossed out during the League Cup groups when new players are playing together competively for the first time. Maybe, having seen so many examples of players developing at Fir Park, fans would sit back and enjoy watching players evolve. It's certainly a big part of the experience for me. However, if fans are happy to cast instant judgement on players saying how terrible they are, I don't think it's unfair for others to point out how wrong they were.
  18. Theo comes on in the 77th minute for what looked like might be a famous win, but now we go to pens. (Canda closing out a game using Motherwell tactics and conceding the equaliser in the 92nd minute).
  19. So 1.1 million was the Bair minimum?
  20. Number of consecutive wins in new shirt: 1 Take your pick...
  21. You mean being the 3rd highest scorers in the league? I'd settle for that again.
  22. In this modern age when full backs aren't full backs and centre forwards aren't centre forwards, Paton and Wells will be "attacking-supporting-defensive-wingback-strikers"
  23. Looking forward to hearing who's up next based on that list of affordable 20 goals a season strikers you secretly maintain.
  24. I agree, and I think the problem there is that the rules haven't kept up with the technology in a few instances. Offside was originally introduced to stop a team having a player camped in the opposition penalty box and launching balls at them all day. It evolved into what we have now, but in pre-VAR days there was obviously much more leeway and arguments were not about fractions of a millimetre. Same with the handball laws. They were designed to eliminate the need for refs to establish intent, but instead have made things 100 times worse. And that's only amplified by the VAR reviews for "handballs" that nobody even noticed or questioned. If they are insistent on keeping VAR, I'd be in favour of changing offside to mean a player has to be completely in front of the last man. Of course there still might be arguments about only being 1cm behind, but it would give a lot more leeway. If they don't change the handball rule, then I like the idea of having different levels of infringement in the penalty box. I know there are indirect free kicks sometimes, but they are few and far between. It seems crazy that a player saving a shot on the goal line gives up the same penalty as a defender on the edge of the box, back to goal when the ball traveling out of the box hits him on the back of the arm. Of course, I'd much prefer scrapping VAR. The only excuse I have heard now for keeping it is "players without it will struggle when the play international or European games". No mention of improving the quality of the game for the players or more importantly, the spectators. That pretty much says it all.
  25. If we keep Bair, I'm not sure we need another forward. I'm never opposed to signing a creative mid for any team, but I can guarantee that if we do they will be labelled as slow and useless in the tackle by half the fans.
