I know. Imagine being happy playing your football with us and having your family settled in the area, and then hoping to get a new contract. Madness.
  2. He was. I said at the time it looked reckless for an untested manager, and looks even more reckless now with 3 years left. Unless they managed to get a relegation clause added to the deal.
  3. I've lived through many incarnations of the League Cup from 2 legged affairs to the groups. The one I always preferred was the format of one game per tie, extra time/pens if necesary, final played before the New Year. It addresses all the issues of too many games and makes games a worthwhile trip for away fans.
  4. They were already running at a big loss when they sold them. Something like 5 or 6 million in debt. Although the were able to secure favourable terms with some wealthy investors, they were bleeding money. The fees they were receiving for the big transfers were offset by the comparatively large wages and very long term contracts they gave to guys who never amounted to anything. And, as you mentioned, the slice that was going into others' pockets. It's why I used to get annoyed by posters on here who just looked at the fees paid for guys like GMS and complained we weren't doing the same. When in reality, the amount of cash spent across the club to generate those fees was more than the fees themselves. Even with their recent budget slashes, their last accounts showed a loss of 1.5 million.

Agreed. His best (and only) position is attacking wide right. If we don't want to play him there we shouldn't bother discussing a new contract.
  6. No surprise to us, but some posters had Utd and Falkirk as favourites to win. Once again, however, a season of top flight games gives the Premiership team a significant edge over two legs. Would have been happy if Utd were promoted, but shows again how difficult it is to get out of the Championship as, in effect, only one team ever comes up.
  7. I wasn't a critic, but did express reservations when 'Flo took over Leann's role as I didn't think he had the experience to be a COO. However, I was happy enough when it turned out he was, in fact, performing the GM role as it was a role he was basically performing anyway. I think he has done a great job under unique circumstances, and he always comes over well in the media. Not to say there haven't been mistakes, but how many clubs in the UK have transitioned from administration to fully owned by fans? By its very nature that means we have had to make some of this up as we went along. Now, here we are at the end of a tough season with top flight team, a perfect playing surface and a fan owned club. If you had said 4 or 5 years ago this is where we'd be, I doubt many would have believed it.
  8. Since we started the great new pitch project, every summer the club has gone into great detail about the annual remediation work required to keep our new pitch up to snuff - including posting pictures and updates of the process. And every summer someone complains we are digging it up.
  9. This is the kind of reaction a troll lives for.
  10. Every time Skippy has turned down a move, for whatever reason, it's always a "sore one". Remember when we knocked back a bid from Rangers and he was moaning it was his "dream move"? Then went to Celtic shortly after. Moaning is in his DNA on and off the park.
  11. Aye, for a while he had a great partnership with Erwin in the U20s, but another case of not quite managing the step up to the first team. Good luck to the guy.
  12. Imagine if we had summer football. Pre-season would be the middle of winter and we wouldn't be able to perform the annual pitch remediation required until Jan or Feb (when the grass doesn't grow).

Assists are one of those American imports they use to make their native sports more interesting and their fantasy sports leagues more profitable. Like all statistics, it has some use in some circumstances, but doesn't come close to giving a complete picture.
  14. Dylan Mackin is (or was) 29. Given the second letter looks like a "y" and the second digit might be a 9, that would be my guess for now.
  15. You could be right. That might be a "g" rather than a "y" in there.
  16. Only names I can think of containing a "y" like that are Dylan Falconer, Dylan Mackin or Ryan Watters. Mackin looks the closest, but it doesn't look much like any of those.
  17. Not really, though.
  18. McFadden falls into that category too, then, presumably?
  19. Depends on whether his wife will let him move to to Australia this time, I imagine. I'm sure Hibs would be delighted to have him, though. Water under the bridge.
  20. Not until the end of the month when his contract expires.
  21. Got him on the cheap Had a great few seasons. Sold him on for a tidy sum. Got him on the cheap again. One of our best pieces of business ever. A guy who always gives 100% and a decent amount of talent to match. Sorry to seem him go, but seems like the perfect time for him to move on.

I think it's quite possible he was in our top salary range, but that's different from asserting it as a fact. Doesn't make any difference now, though. It also reminds me of one of my favourite Far Side cartoons, so that's a bonus.
  23. So back on topic, the list of former players has officialy been extended to the following:

The whole "highest earner" thing is another one of those "say it often enough and it becomes true" things people love to repeat with nothing to back it up except that other people have already said it. Whether it's true or not, I'm sure you're right that a major restructure is in order. One which might still see him leave anyway.
