No thanks. We need to rebuild that central defence with players that don't keep drifting out of position, don't keep losing their man and don't keep giving the ball away. Giving 100% is the bare minimum I expect from anyone in the squad.

Unless it's Airdrie, Clydebank, Airdrie United, Airdrie.
-
Good idea extending the early bird season ticket pricing so fans can see who the new gaffer will be.

They are usually split into: Leaving after contract expired Leaving after contract terminated Staying because they are under contract Leaving, but offered a new deal Transfer agreed. Under the current circumstances, it's possible one or more of those categories has not been fully decided or communicated, so they could be waiting until all that business is done before announcing them all.

People only tend to worry about that when the team isn't playing well. From Brian Clough to José Mourinho, the footballing world is full of managers with huge egos. I agree it contributed to his downfall though, as he obviously left to "protect his brand".

Doesn't the squad update usually happen after the expiry of current contracts? - typically 31st May.

Like most managers, SK did some good things and some bad things. On the plus side, he figured out what KVV needed to be effective, turned Theo Bair around for a tidy sum, gave us Biereth for a few months, gave the youngsters a decent amount of playing time, and not all his signings were busts (Sparrow, Seddon, Maswanhise, Gordon, Koutroumbis, for example). On the negative side, he never managed to sort out our basic lack of defending, struggled to find a plan B, struggled to find a goal scorer, and despite the many "internal reviews of the training regime" seemed to consistently crock our players on a regular basis. I wasn't sad to see him leave, as he was running out of ideas - but no need to rewrite history.
-
Also true, but if we hadn't lost to teams like Queens Park, Albion Rovers and Clyde in the early rounds of cup competitions, we also might have had easy draws all the way to the final.

I've got a feeling Davies isn't going to manage another senior club again.
-
A fan of actual defending would be a good start. I'm not too worried if that's a 4, a 3 or a libero set up.

As I recall, he ruled himself out of that job years ago saying he didn't think he would be any good at managing a club with such tight budget constraints. Still one of my favourite players though, and the one I think made the most of his post-Motherwell career in all my years watching us. After the heady heights of winning the First Division with us he won the English First Division with Leeds (in the last season before it became the EPL), and the League Cup, FA Cup, UEFA Cup treble at Liverpool (as well as the Super Cup if you consider that a real trophy).
-
You wouldn't. I would. The club knows what they are looking for, and it isn't that.
-
You do need a huge slice of luck to win any trophy, regardless of how good you are. We had plenty along the way to our victory, and if after failing to beat Morton home and away, we had lost the penalty shootout at Cappielow, it would have just been another average cup run.

I know I'm just throwing hypotheticals around here, but that's what happens when the season is finished. Would we tolerate a season like Spurs if we lost 21 games, but won the Scottish Cup? I 100% agree that it's a lot of fun going to grounds you've never visited before and find it sad a lot of the places we were able to visit when we were in the First Division have long since gone. Of course, I'd be delighted if we won another piece of silverware. I'm lucky, however, to have been at Hampden in 1991. I also watched us win the old First Division twice which, while not quite as prestigious, was still a great experience - in particular because it meant we won a shed load of games along the way. I'm not worried about the European place awarded when you finish 2nd or 3rd in the league, I'm more interested in the number of games won to achieve it. One of the most enjoyable seasons in recent memory was when we pipped Aberdeen to 2nd place with the last kick of the ball at Pittodrie - the same season that Albion Rovers knocked us out the cup. Would I swap that for a Cup Win and finishing 9th? Not sure.
-
What if we were like St Johnstone and we played eye-bleedingly painful football for a few seasons, won 2 cups, and continued to play eye-bleedingly painful football on our way to relegation? Or would you rather have a few more McCall like seasons where we finished 2nd?
-
It's an interesting topic. A cup win would be great. It's a long season, however, and regardless of European places, finishing 3rd would likely mean a good number of wins along the way providing regular entertainment.

The actual transfer window doesn't "slam shut" until 1st September, so from that perspective there is plenty of time. Most of the players are off for a fortnight in Ibiza at this point, so the ideal timing would be to have a new man in place early June. There is a risk the league cup group stages might be a complete write-off as new players and new ideas are put into place, but more important that we get things right going into the new league campaign.

Bookies (and the media) haven't come close to correctly predicting our managers in recent history.
-
I know what you mean, but the hoop and/or band has only been used on about 50% of our kits in our history. Even when I started watching us around 1970, we only had one hoop season until 1984. Our kit in the 1925-26 season looked like this: I'd be OK if we did that as a tribute 100 years later.

Whatever the real story is - no team can afford to have a manager (or player) that doesn't want to be there. Look at Amorim at Man U. Even before their cup loss, he was letting everyone know he wouldn't even ask for compensation if the sacked him. There could genuinely be family issues, he might just have been homesick, or he might have looked at the possibility of Livi being promoted and thought "I can't work in any tinpot league that allows 25% of their clubs to play on plastic" From the club's perspective, I was happy they tried something like this and disappointed it didn't work out. It was certainly a better idea than the times we had people on here suggesting Tommy Wright should be appointed as a "safe pair of hands". At least the new man will be able to bring in a few of his own players over the summer and get a pre-season to prepare.
-
I have no idea whether the family health issue is true or not, but what is true is that you don't generally stop working under those circumstances. It's perfectly reasonable to want to live closer.

I never understood the 6 second rule. Or rather, how it would be implemented. I remember asking when it was introduced - who was going to time it and was it going to be applied to every keeper every time. Of of course, the answer was nobody was going to time it, and it would never be applied. I agree all that's needed is proper application of the current time wasting Laws. I'm also in favour of adding that wasted time to the end of the game - although some players didn't like that when it was rolled out at the World Cup and meant 10 or 12 minutes added to all the matches.

The problem with offside is the rule hasn't kept up with VAR. It was originally designed to prevent goal-hanging, but evolved over the years. I can't imagine any of the original lawmakers intended for goals to be disallowed because the attacker's little toe was a centimetre front of a defender's little toe. Their needs to be some leeway there - although I imagine that would be misinterpreted too. To keep things fair, I'd always be giving the benefit of the doubt to attackers in offside situations and the benefit of the doubt to defenders in the handball situations.

He's on the record multiple times regarding his disdain for that playing surface, so fingers crossed.
