  1. Currently on holiday in Orlando (bad planning, I know), does anyone know if there are likely to be any channels showing the game and where to go to watch it? Thanks.
  2. I wasnt surprised, we HAD to win.......just out of common courtesy you understand! Couple more decent results in next two games and we will be right back in the mix for europe. Considering the run we've been on thats quite incredible!
  3. That's because it was like a morgue when they scored! Didn't need it for us cause we all went ballistic!
  4. I give you the 1st March 1961. I give you 5th May 1997. it may not happen often but it does happen, so why not tomorrow?
  5. I know we've been very poor in recent weeks, but it's a cup semi final FfS! If we can't get up for this then we're not fit to be called fitb a fans! It's a one off, anything can happen, yeh we might get stuffed, but what if we don't and you weren't there?
  6. With the greatest respect, the thread wasn't really having a go at the clubs work in the community, more having a go at the poor ticket sales for the semi final and the fact that people in the community were not aware that the game was on and that the club could maybe have done more to promote sales. Two totally different things IMO.
  7. I dont want to be too harsh on the club, however I think the general point is a good one given the poor ticket sales. It is quite easy to find out ticket information if you are interested in the club and want to go to the game, but as we know there are only around 3000 genuinely interested in doing this. The club desperately needs money. I dont know if it would have been financially viable to put on free buses, but, if like the original poster suggested this was accompanied by a poster / leaflet campaign in Motherwell town centre you immediately make the offer more attractive to the fair weather supporter as they then dont have to worry about how to get there, where to park, if they can have a drink etc etc.... Sometimes you have to make life easy for people to get them motivated to do things as they will just not do things off their own bat. I know some people will say, why bother, if there not interested enough then f*** them, but I want the best players at Fir Park that the club can afford and if that means targeting the money in the pockets of folk who dont normally go to Fir park then I for one think we should be doing it.
  8. Surprised no one has brought this up but I have seen this 4/5 times now on BBC Alba and it still looks to me as if Hately headers it away from Saunders hand! Am I going blind? Certainly didn't look deliberate due to the collision so I felt justice was done.
  9. While I agree that Hutch looked good today and I have been impressed by his performances, particularly at the start of last season, it would be dangerous to start getting carried away. it was pretty dire for the most part today with neither team playing very much football, however we can take some comfort out of the clean sheet and the three points. Hopefully this will continue to build up the confidence of young players like Hutch as they are the key to our future.
  10. Was it also bullshit for Davy Cooper, one of the most one footed players I've ever seen, who was similarly unappreciated early in his Rangers career? Clearly when he moved to Motherwell and was playing with far superior players who were on his wavelength his game shot into the stratosphere! I take your point about it being a team game which is why I said it was a conundrum to fit players like Gow into a team like ours. He should have taken account of his team mates and tailored his game to suit and maybe thats where the selfish aspect of it comes in, however, you cant say that good players wont improve playing with other good players? Hopefully we can get someone in who has some imagination AND can play for the team, however sadly I dont think we can afford the wages of a player who has both, hence why we ended up with gow in the first place.
  11. Seem to recall a lot of doom n gloom merchants on here crying out for a creative midfielder earlier in the year saying we were going nowhere without one. I'm not saying Gow was the answer or the most productive, as he clearly wasn't, but if you paid close attention to him as an individual player you would have noticed that some of his touches on the ball and the things he was trying to do were in a different class from anyone else in our team, but maybe that was the problem. We dont have the players who can read that type of ball and hence most of his work came to nothing. The St Mirren game in Paisley was a case in point. I guess it's a bit of a conundrum how to fit a player like that into your team whilst not weakening the overall product, but I'd rather pay to see players like Gow who are capable of doing something exciting, albeit they are mostly infuriating, than a bunch of workhorse plodders not capable of entertaining at all. I'd put Humphrey in the same category albeit he HAS had some spectacular games, but recently he has done next to nothing. I would never have him out of the team though, because he is one of the few players we have who CAN make a difference. Anyway, it matters not. Gow will leave and we will have to find someone else to fill the void, hopefully they will be a little more appreciated.
  12. Tamy, brief explanation! Scottish football has been in decline for some time now so the SFA commissioned former MP Henry McLeish to carry out an investigation. His report basically slaughtered everybody involved in the running of the game and stated unless there was major change the game would die. The SPL in their wisdom have taken on board what was said in the report and decided that change IS required, however, instead of listening to the what the fans want (a bigger league with all teams playing each other only twice instead of 4 times as at present) they have proposed that we should go back to a ten team league which was abolished years ago because it didn't work. The vote to make this a reality will happen very soon, but it looks a foregone conclusion to be passed if you believe what is in the papers, hence why everyone is very angry! Hope that makes sense! For what it's worth I think Rangers, Celtic and Sky are the driving forces as they want to hold on to the 4 Old Squirm games every year. Why the hell clubs the likes of ours think it's a good idea, I cannot fathom. We only get 9500 for OF games now so the increased attendance for 2 more games against them could easily be recouped in increased attendances for the other games if we only play each other once home and away and get rid of the familiarity that's killing our game and subsequently attendances. A 16 team league with 2 up 2 down and the next 2 teams going into the playoffs is the way to go, add in McLeishs proposals on prices, facilities, winter break, summer start and I think we could go a long way to improving things. But hey, Im just a supporter!
  13. Cheers Andy, looks like he would fit in right at home on the ex OF supporters thread with a history like that! Especially if you chuck in the England U21 story and how he dodged that to end up playing for Scotland!
  14. With you on that one BB. I'm not one of the dreamers who thinks we can get by without Crags as he is a good organizer and, on the whole, reads the game well, however, he is a much more effective player when he stops thinking he is a footballer trying to spray passes that are beyond his ability. He should be experienced enough to know what his strengths are and play to them, and any manager worth his salt should be giving him the message! I think the other big problem with him is that he is crap in the air and doesn't win anywhere near enough headers in the box, hence our woeful record of conceding goals from set pieces and cross balls. This is compounded by the fact that Reynolds is no better. I accept our defensive record is not the worst, however, it's the type of goals that we are conceding that is so frustrating! I would try and move Reynolds on and get some money to improve the squad with as I think, given an injury free run, Hutchison Saunders or Paige would all provide a better pairing than we have just now.
  15. I note in his interview he said his first Scottish club game was Motherwell v Celtic in 1978, does anyone know the background to that? Given he was born in Leeds and his dad is Scots is his dad a Well / Celtic fan? Would be a touch ironic if he was actually Celtic daft as a kid! I know at the end of the day it doesn't make a great deal of difference as long as he starts winning games, just curious!
  16. Anyone youngsters or players not getting a game at Inter that Stuart McCall could get on loan?
  17. Nobody's mentioned the fact that Tommy Craig is coming as number 2. Personally, I think thats a great appointment as he is vastly experienced. I must admit when I first heard the news about McCall I wasnt doing cartwheels, but I think as a double act this might just work! Mon the Steelmen!
  18. I totally agree with that! He has no coaching or management experience and any time he did the summarising on the tv I thought he was watching a different game than I was. Not impressive when talking about the game at all, any of the other names mentioned would be preferrable to that one!
  19. I would propose Craig and Archie are one Cup one win short of being our next club Legends!
  20. Never felt that way about a Motherwell game no matter how bad the result, however I will give you.... Czech Republic V Scotland 8th October 2010
  21. 1. Joe Wark (no shit!) 2. Wullie P 3. Johnny Gahagan 4. Dougie Arnott 5. Davie Cooper Bubbling Under 1. Tommy Coyne 2. Sieb 3. Colin O'Neill 4. Luc Nijholt 5. Faddy

Hard to pick someone who impressed but it's Reynolds for me. Looks far more assured this season and although I like Crags for his experience and organisation, we all know what his weaknesses are. I think alongside Hutchison or Saunders, Reynolds would flourish.
  23. Dont mean to be critical, but I cant agree with you there. Thought the big man was immense and led the line well, patricularly in the first half. Thought the number of times he plucked the ball out the sky when it was launched at him from 80 yards showed excellent touch and control and allowed our midfield to get up and support him. He also brought other players into play with some neat footwork at times. That said, the miss WAS an absolute shocker! He's not up there with Big Lucas yet, but I think Broonie has done well to identify someone who can at least have a go at filling his shoes. As for MoM, thought everyone played pretty well. Hately was probably the most disappointing, but thats only measured against his performances last season. Saunders and Reynolds merit special mention but I think for sheer impact in the first half it has to go to Murphy (like many others I would give it to Humphrey every week if the final product was there. Hopefully that will come!). Overall, I should be gutted at not making the group, but for some reason 'm not. I just feel proud that we once again have a team that is capable of playing attractive attacking football. Gives us hope for the rest of the season, and who knows, maybe next year! God Bless Craig n Archie.
