Maybe so. But someone asked the question as to whether the red card was justified. I wasnt assuming the role of his defence agent.
-
Lasley for me. Was our best player by a distance in the first half and maintained that throughout the second half when we were much better. His workrate for the team is incredible.
-
Red card looked harsh. Definite yellow although he did catch Las on the ankle. Hard to say if it was deliberate although Carswell reacted as if it was a naughty one.

Not sure what to make of it all. Wasnt sure about the starting 11. I get what McCall says about not being too gung ho as Celtic certainly have the players to hurt you. However, if you are looking to soak up pressure surely you play one up front and that person has to be mobile and run the channels ie NOT Sutton. Not sure the full back set up was right either. Kerr was fit enough to be on the bench and come on so why not play him and leave Hammell at left back. Thought we looked exposed on both flanks as a result. Dont think we pressed the ball enough either. Their players got plenty space to think what they wanted to do. That said, we looked much better in the second half and although we were far more attacking we only lost 1 goal and an og at that. No doubting Celtic are better than us, just disappointing that we continue to make the gap look bigger than it really is.

Agreed. Reminiscing is good.
-
All the better for our players to hear the few Well fans who are there! A flat atmosphere is more likely to benefit us than them. Fingers crossed we can get the first goal and watch their fans turn. Other than our really poor record there we should have no reason to fear this one in our current form. I dont expect it to be gung ho, or indeed win the game, but I do expect a much better performance from us this time. COYW! Intae them!
-
We have Kerr and Carswell who can both do a job there. Lawson to fill in for Carswell if he has to move across. Finances being what they are I wouldnt think we will be moving to cover this position. Edit: I realise neither is as good as Ramsden in that position but thats life.

With their rapidly falling attendances it certainly shouldnt be intimidating for our players and might unsettle theirs. If I had to choose 3 points against Celtic or Aberdeen I would take them against the Mole Stars as well. However if we could get the 3 points somehow from Parkhead I think the confidence of our players would be sky high and I'd back us to do the Sheepies as well. COYW.

Age has its advantages!

I agree pressing the ball all over the park is the way to get a result. Deny them time on the ball and get in their faces. The team selection will require to take account of the amount of running involved and good use of substitutes but I believe it can be done. Whether it pans out that way is an entirely different matter. If we could get the first goal it would make a huge difference........and shut those twats on Celtic TV up!

Worst Xi To Grace The Claret & Amber

I dont recall Derek Murray being that bad but compared to some of the other left backs that have served us so well, he was poor in comparison. He would make a worst haircut 11 though for his Charlie Nicholas mullet perm! -
Wouldnt be the first time it has been claimed that one of our players couldnt jump on here. Or run, for that matter...... Sorry. Couldnt resist.

Both just before my time. Stewart Rennie was the first keeper I remember. My dad knew Keith McRae. Always used to tell me he was a great keeper. I remember big Tam playing for Rangers and he was a formidable guy. But I have no memory of him in claret and amber. I did see the likes of McVie Watson McLaren Stevens etc but at that age I was only interested in how the ball went forward, hence my selections from that era. I recall really liking Vic Davidson and Marinello but tough to compare them to the likes of Cooper and Russell who just seemed to be telepathic.
-
I dont remember us collecting many points with Ruddy or Randolph between the sticks. Gunnar hasnt actually played at Parkhead yet so lets give him a chance.
-
It was a good hit and the importance of the goal made it very special. This is where favourites come in. Although Van der Gaag was up there he was with us such a short time. I have a real soft spot for big Buff Martin. IMO he should have been a first pick for Scotland for 2 seasons. By the time he actually got his chance his form had started to dip. Buffs 30 yarder at Ibrox is one of my favourite memories.
-
Its the best 11 you have seen. However, I would say there is some artistic licence, your favourite players must have been decent to make you like them?

Need to make a concession to healthy living somewhere!

It wasnt the Vigurs doubters that were the issue. Anyone is entitled to have reservations about a player if they havent produced the form they showed at their previous club. However, when you declare that the individual is rubbish/waste of a wage/ a first division player before we are even half way through a season which started with 7 first team players having to be replaced, you put yourself up to be shot at. Im a glass half full kinda guy (maybe that makes me a happy clapper) I thought that Vigurs would be a good signing for us. It wasnt looking such a great prediction and I would be lying if I said I didnt have my doubts as to whether he could turn it around. As the team improves we are seeing glimpses of what he is capable of. Hopefully by the end of the season he will be showing his full potential.

Not from me. I thought he was an intelligent footballer with the ability to pick a pass. Suffered from the fact than none of his teamates could read the pass and his languid style made him look lazy. A bit like Vigurs. -
Had a quick skim through the podcast. Not really my cup of tea but nothing to put me off Danny Baker. Couldnt find the discussion about Motherwell but couldnt find the motivation to listen to the full 1hr 31mins! For the record though, its ALWAYS brown sauce. The saugage has to be of the sliced variety with onions however!

Not a great fan of worst 11's but given I started the opposing thread I suppose I should contribute. I will refrain from including any current players on the basis that they wont get any better by publicly slating them when they are still trying to do a job. Its a difficult one as you would think really bad players shouldnt have played too many games, therefore the chances of having seen them play are lowered. Not sure I can list a full team so I will just put some names out there. Maybe G&F can pick the worst 11! John Gardiner (never forgave him for the cup replay against Hearts) Yassin Moutaoukil Karl Ready Simon Mensing Andy Roddie Gordon "Night" Mair (didnt get that nickname for nothing) Omar Daley Roy Essandoh Esteban Casagolda Calum Elliot as a bit of mischief making, how about Phil O'Donnell for LB? He only played one game there and it was his debut but Kenny McDowall roasted him that day. It was painful to watch and wee Tommy never played him there again. Must have been an invaluable lesson right enough given what happened thereafter. -
I will try and get the podcast and give the man a chance....
-
Never listened to his show. Just remember those really awful football bloopers videos! That and him being pished with Gazza and Chris Evans. Dont suppose that makes you a bad person!
-
I think we should excuse the unfortunate caller. Do we really want Danny Baker supporting the Well?
-
His pass to Sutton for the goal was great, but the one to Ainsworth in the second half was different class.
