  1. We didn't ask the steward to escort us to our seats or where our seats were. We were told to sit anywhere. Normally I'm a stickler for sitting in the correct seat but we were instructed to sit anywhere. I was brought up to respect authority and if a steward tells you to do something, within reason, you do it. We were simply following "official" guidance or advice whatever you wish to call it. Either fans should be told sit in their seat or else or they should be told sit anywhere. I can see both points of view, but these incidents were down to stewarding errors. Gordon, I take your point about the turnstiles and this has happened to us before. Now we simply walk to the far away ones.
  2. I don't quite know how it could be arranged but yes, I suspect we're looking at Peter Hartley's position. Of the others, I think we might be speaking to Bowman and Rose and possibly Grimshaw. Louis Moult - who knows?
  3. Accies are a streetwise side and thats been a major factor in their top league survival to date. They approached the game in just the manner many of us expected beforehand. The dive at the penalty was simply ridiculous there's no other word for it. Accies conned Craig Thomson, an experienced ref, for much of the game. MacKinnon does a job for them and we all know what it is. However he threw 2 deliberate elbows yesterday and committed at least 10 fouls that I could see and yet was not even yellow carded. I have to mention the poor stewarding yesterday which caused a completely avoidable altercation or two. Our party presented our tickets to a steward for checking but were told just to go and to sit anywhere, which we did. Just prior to kick off two guys appeared and asked us to move as we were in their seats. We explained what we had been instructed to do but they weren't happy, understandably so. The situation was resolved amicably though when we moved along one seat to accommodate them. All was well that ended well as far as that was concerned. As some of you will have witnessed, one punter turned up very late and demanded his ticketed seat right behind the goal. He then argued with a steward for what seemed like hours before he got his seat. I felt sorry for the fans in the row immediately behind him who no doubt hardly saw a thing for several minutes. No doubt there were more such incidents, which could have have caused totally avoidable trouble. Now I don't know what stewards were told beforehand; maybe our steward just got it wrong, but such things shouldn't happen. But, to finish on a positive note, our team did the business on the park and our big support behaved well off it and backed the team to the hilt. Too often in the past the team has let down a big travelling support but not yesterday.
  4. The pitch totally dominated the game yesterday and it wasn't the place or time for pretty football. It was a day to grind out a result which we are more than capable of doing these days. Accies could have tried to play a better brand of football, but with or without Crawford, they know its not effective on that surface. Peter Hartley for me was MOTM and again Andy Rose showed his worth with tireless running and an important goal. Carson too impressed and is certainly a huge improvement on Samson. I thought that Cadden and Campbell looked jaded but they still gave 100%. Had both been fully fit then it might well have been a more comfortable scoreline for us. Although still remaining competitive in midfield, we did lack that wee edge we normally have and midweek international duty took its toll. I did wonder if Campbell might have made way for say Grimshaw at half time. Cadden looked knackered. The game was scrappy, niggly and tousy with Accies predictably resorting to their simple but usually effective brand of non football. It was a hoot to watch Martin Canning castigating the officials for failing to punish us for time wasting. Craig Thomson again had a poor and inconsistent game and was too easily conned by streetwise players. However some of the dives had to be seen to be believed. I don't know yet how Darian MacKinnon lasted until half time let alone full time. We were sat in front of a smashing old lady and her son and boy did she let her feelings known. Suffice to say that neither Thomson nor MacKinnon will be on her Christmas card list. A real character! Its a good time to be a Well fan and whatever the result we are guaranteed to see the team battle, fight and give 100%. Well done Robbo and Keef.
  5. Happy with this news. Robbo has transformed our club on the field into an outfilt we enjoy watching; one which has shown plenty of spirit and fight. Alan Burrows and Jim McMahon deserve recognition for their part in bringing him to the club.
  6. It feels like we're on top of Monte Rosa right now. Lets hope the Accies defence is as effective as a Swiss chocolate fireguard.
  7. No harm to the lad, but another youngster, like Alan Martin and others before him, who was in too much of a hurry. Ambition is to be commended but some need to learn to walk before they can run.
  8. I think the away stand has a capacity of 2200. So on that basis we've sold 1700 tickets.
  9. Do we know this for a fact or is it only a rumour? No word on our injury list but I'll be pleasantly surprised if we have a fully fit squad.
  10. I can't speak for plastic pitches elsewhere but Accies one is poor. On our last visit there players from both sides found it difficult to control the ball, which very often took completely random bounces leaving players red faced. I've yet to see a team play good football on that pitch.
  11. I doubt if this will be a classic; more of the blood, snotters and sweat type of clash. Certainly we're better equipped for a physical tussle and I expect that our off the ball play will have improved significantly. We know what to expect from Accies - physicality, effort, determination and last but certainly not least "streetwiseness". If we get sucked into a right physical brawl we'll need to avoid being too naive in order to escape red and yellow cards, as its cost us in the past. On the experience of past games, Accies will know just how to play a weak or inconsistent referee. Hopefully, guys like Cadden and Campbell will be fit after their foreign foray. Our midfield should now be able to compete and battle Accies for 50/50 balls, winning them to feed our attacking players. No doubt given the ongoing drought Accies will need to water parts of their pitch.
  12. Hey, don't forget those who want to stand but not sing.
  13. Any idea how many tickets we've shifted so far? For once looking forward to it.
  14. I'm surprised that no-one has mentioned the additional selling points at the stadium and telephone arrangements; then again maybe not. Whilst they're far from perfect the club has tried to improve things.
  15. He was given a one year deal so yes it would be.
  16. I'm not saying that there wasn't drunkenness amongst our support but I didn't see any evidence of it being widespread. I was however disgusted at the sectarian singing by thousands of Celtic supporters.
  17. I'd imagine so. Our budget for the current year would have been set out well before the start of the season. We're having a good cup run; attendances are well up; we'll have 3 home games against the gruesome twosome; we'll have the Celtic euro money; and we've picked up a wee bit in transfer fees. All good news. However (there's always a but) the reroofing of the John Hunter Stand will have been costly, bonus payments will be up this season; we may have had to pay off a few ex members of staff (eg Mark McGhee and Jacob Blyth; and youth Development costs may well be rising.
  18. Just watched the BBC TV highlights and Cerny appears to turn his body towards the Hunter Stand, grab Bowman from behind as he passed him and haul him down. Great bit of trickery from Hartley for our third!
  19. We shouldn't put too much store on one game though Andy. Your assertion that "Hammell's performance against Aberdeen in the League Cup was of a level that Dunne has yet to get anywhere near since he came to the club." is 100% spot on of course. However we must take into account the number of games both have played for the club. I can't say hand on heart that Stevie's performance was his best ever in hundreds of games, but it must certainly rank in the top 10. I would say that it was atypical of his career with us. There's no doubt in my mind that he's better with the ball in terms of passing and crossing and that part of the 2 players' games is easy to pick out. However Hammell's weakness has always been his positional sense or lack of it whilst off the ball. That part of his game was never as easy to pick out. Too often he's given attackers too much room or got on the wrong side of them. Thats the stronger part of Dunne's game. As I say they're both different kinds of defender with different strengths and weaknesses.
  20. If we had a tall, fast, defender who could pass, cross and defend he wouldn't be with us long. At our level no player is going to be perfect. Its hard to judge just how good our defence was yesterday as Partick were so poor. However, Carson was given sound protection and didn't have a shot to save. Some of that, at least, is down to our defenders including Dunne. I suppose many are comparing him to Stevie Hammell, naturally, who is a completely different kind of defender.
  21. Absolutely. Too often today and this season so far he's been playing the role of provider either from the wing or behind the other striker and midfielders. A small issue in the great scheme of things though. No doubt Robbo will address this and other weaknesses from today's performance. Lets put matters in perspective though, we won and won well against a poor Partick side who never at any point troubled Carson. Perhaps that was down to our defence which protected him well. I thought that Kipre, Hartley and Campbell were the pick of the bunch. In particular Hartley goes about his business unobtrusively and effectively but not quietly. The whole team shows fight and determination and that is great to watch. Three different scorers today as well. Dunne is not as accomplished as Hammell whilst on the ball but is a far better defender than him whilst off it. The referee today was not the worst we've had this season although he made several major errors being a failure to red card Cerny; a failure to issue a second yellow card to Partick's big midfielder, and a failure to adequately punish a Partick player for a 2 footed lunge on McHugh, who has been red carded for similar tackles. All in all a good day's work that keeps our good run going. A lot of credit is due to Robbo and Keef for completely transforming the side. Its great to know that even after winning 3-0 they'll be poring over our mistakes to rectify them. What more can we ask of our management team? Its a great time to be a Well fan!
  22. When considering bringing in Hammell for Dunne we should be mindful that Thistle are a very big side and will be quite happy to play aerial football. .
  23. It doesn't matter if you're in the minority or not you're entitled to your view. I think we'd all rather that the club was self sustaining from commercial sources and, as far as I know, its the intention of our directors and the Society to make it so. Every effort should be made to increase revenue streams whilst minimsing unnecessary costs. However, football clubs are strange entities and for most part they're not out and out businesses in that many of the their "customers" are fans and yes they take advantage of that. If some fans want to contribute to the club ie through the Society, why would we turn them away and refuse their money?
  24. At some point in the hopefully not too distant future our outstanding debts to Les Hutchison and John Boyle will be paid off. So, I suppose that is the Society's main priority at the moment. Thereafter those who can afford to do so and wish to can continue to join the Society; pay up their instalments; or start / continue to make monthly donations. Jim McMahon has already said as much. This ongoing revenue stream will continue to help the club. I have no problem with this as long as folk are not forced, against their will, to contribute - this won't happen. Each to their own. Those who wish to continue paying will and those who don't won't.
