S Robinson Motherwell Manager

Robinson until the summer wouldn't exactly get the pulses racing (did someone say underwhelming?) but club have perhaps made the decision to sacrifice excitement of a fresh face with a some might say dull appointment that might be able to keep us up. Assuming, of course, that he was their first choice...

If Robinson only wants it til the summer as he has other things he wants to pursue then that's fine for him but it doesn't bode well for the summer that we can't find a candidate we'd rather have than him...

I'd imagine there are many candidates we want. Most of them currently employed, and a number of them who wouldn't want the job right now.

Why risk taking on a team in relegation trouble in March when you can, hopefully, take the job in the summer when the fate is decided.

The truth of the matter is that there are two jobs going at the club, and the right man for one may not be the right man for the other. The first job is getting us out of the current hole we find ourselves in and remaining in the top flight for next season. The second job is the major rebuilding job required in the coming close season to replace players that move on for various reasons ( too old, too good, too shite). The success that anyone has with the second proposition will depend greatly on whether someone is successful with the first.

Does anyone think that McFadden should also go, as he was part of the management team that has let us down. I have mixed feelings and can only judge what I see on match day and certainly does not fill me with confidence.

It would be interesting to find out what players really thought.

I take it whoever takes over will be told to keep McFadden as an assistant,

Is it at all possible that the club are actually looking for two men literally. Director of Football roles are a hot topic at the moment with clubs like Hearts and Rangers going down that road.

Robinson's strength seems to be as a first team coach. The question mark might be, would he have a long term vision for the team and the club? If there was a Director of Football working with him, he could concentrate on what he is good at.

Maybe a Director of Football, is simply not an option for a club our size but is it all possible that the announcement of Robinson's appointment is being delayed because they are looking for that very thing?

I seem to recall that Alan Burrows dismissed a Director of Football role on the basis we couldn't afford it.

Amazed at the folk lining up 'reasoning' for going with Robinson...........it could be justified, but surprised at so many clutching at justifying whilst overlooking his actual managerial record.....free role to rebuild a club (limited time admittedly) and look at who he surrounded his self with, level of success, signings etc.

decent Coach yes, manager at a club thats needs rebuilt.....?
