New kit for 2023/24

I quite like the new kit.

Can bet I’ll be attending everything next season and I’ll have some comments regards to our kits and how we need to stop fanning about every other year. Just do one home kit lasts two seasons in our traditional colours and change the collar/trim or whatever every couple years.

It's not an unreasonable point and one I'd be on board with. What if, however, the Well Society tells you that changing the design every year generates enough income to pay the salary of one player that season? Would it still be worth it?

The Society shouldn't be involved in such decisions. Leave that to the club.🤣

Perhaps the Club and the Society forming a joint project team to look at future strip design could help build a better relationship between the two. Having discussed possibilities with manufacturers, present the final three options and let the folk who will be paying for the new shirt have the final say. Club, WS and fanbase uniting! Now, there's a novelty.

Great idea. One thing that does concern me more than anything just now is a split in our support due to the current investment situation. Most online posts are reasonable, but there are few which are adversarial in tone. Above all else we need to show a united front on the footballing side and get right behind the team, from the off, as in Saturday 6th.

I’m sure I made that very point on this thread last year about us keeping the same kit for two seasons, something that hasn’t happened for us since we had the Puma kit of 2011 to 2013 (Michael Higdon’s time to be precise).

I know that it’s not just us that change every year nowadays, indeed I think every club does it but do we really need to? Perhaps we do because of the revenue it generates for the club that we couldn’t afford to miss out on and if so, fair enough, I accept that. Maybe it’s a contractual agreement between the club and the manufacturer and again if that’s the case, fair enough. It’s certainly worth asking the question though.

Given the wide ranging opinions on every design, every season, I don't think fan input or votes will have much impact on the wider set of supporters.

I'd expect similar proportion of love/hate/ok for one that was voted-in.

You may well be right about that but it’s clearly something that divides the support every year, be that traditional/a wee bit different/completely out the box or the old white shorts/claret shorts/amber shorts debate. It would be interesting though to get a better idea of the general view of the fanbase as to what our kit should be like.

My brother buys me Motherwell merch at Christmas or I get it on sale. Otherwise I'd be struggling to buy it. I'm personally also happy to wear tops from years gone by as I bet loads of people are.. 

Queen's Park are keeping the same home kit as what they used last season.

I'm not a fan of fluorescent colours or black on away shirts, so without further comment

As much as I disliked the yellow Admiral one at the top of the post, they also made one of my favourite away kits - so swings and roundabouts.

 

I also think the admiral away kit with or without claret shorts is a classic kit

That’s something that you’d maybe expect us to do in today’s climate with the cost of living and us making a bigger effort to engage with the support and the town in general. It might not be financially viable for us as I said but asking people to fork out £45/£50 and upwards every season for a new kit is a big ask.

To be fair to the well shop they do decent sales so if folk are willing to wait they'll get the merch cheaper. I probably haven't bought a new Motherwell top in at least 15 years. Everything I've got since then I've got as a present from my wee brother or on sale. 

I also took it the Club benefited from all merchandise sales. But I read on P&B that Provan Sports are the real beneficiaries with MFC only earn anything if sales reach a certain level, a level which is pretty high and seldom reached. First I have heard of that arrangement but disappointing if true. I assume the Board worked out that it was cost effective to outsource rather than run our own operation. Or was it just the easy option? Might explain why we see a new shirt or three each season. Wonder how long that has been the case and how long is left on the contract?

Same here.

Another wee point the Chairman might like to clarify perhaps? Unless he is still in the huff. I'm pretty sure it is something the new regime, whoever that might be, will investigate in due course. In a drive to maximise income from all areas.

Likewise. Perhaps someone could clarify this for us. If true, the deal needs examined to ascertain that its favourable to us.

I’m sure that’s the case ……….Provan Sports pay MFC a retainer……not sure how much……..this includes providing the kit/training wear for the teams

Obviously it's claret and amber. I mean that white trims clash with claret and amber. Looks disjointed like 2 different strips and white vicar collar out of place too. I just bought the last one so won't bother this year.

Hope away one has not got a vicar callor like home one. That never works. Especially if away top is darker.
