The issue is that Watt is likely to stay in this form as long as he only gets the occasional 15-20 minutes here and there, especially given he didn’t have much of a pre-season or any real match time before joining us.

If we want to see the Tony Watt we had a few years ago, we need to play him regularly and allow him to find his rhythm and get match fit. What’s clear is that there’s a player in there. It all comes down to whether we’re prepared to give him the game time to rediscover that form.

And while i agree to an extent, he hasnt shown that form since he left us. By all accounts he caused dressing room strife & went backwards at Tannadice then turns up here like Jabba the hut.

While i wasnt too keen on the way he left us, i would happilly overlook that if a player actually turned up here & put a shift in. Seeing none of that so for me, its a cheerio.....

Id love Tony Watt to turn it around, prove his fitness and earn a contract with us and finish his career here.

I just dont see it at the moment though.

I get that he is unlikely to get fully match fit without significant gametime, but I had hoped to see some improvement in his cameos from the bench to show he deserved to start. That hasnt happened.

He still has time. Id like to see him start up top with Stama, as I think both would benefit from having someone with football intelligence alongside them.

For me, Vale is a safer bet once fit again. If he is out of contract at the end of the season, I think getting him on a permanent contract would be a no brainer.

Lennon Miller attracting interest from some big English clubs allegedly according to BBC gossip

Scouts from Celtic and Rangers watched Motherwell midfielder Lennon Miller captain Scotland under-19s this week and were joined by representatives from Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea, Liverpool and Aston Villa. (Scottish Sun)

What you’ve said about Watt reflects what I’ve said above about him and Stama. They need to be played as part(s) of a formation that suits their game(s), either together or individually. As you say, it would be good to see them up top together.

Aye, I agree with trying that at some point, but I'd say you can't drop Maswanhise given his form.

So would either need a change of formation (which we all know Kettlewell won't do) or playing one of them out of position. Would Watt at 10 behind Stama/Maswanhise... that bad?

The Maswanhise issue is a good problem to have, but you’re right that Kettlewell won’t change his formation to get Maswanhise, Stama and Watt in the same starting 11, unfortunately.

Aye, I do have a bit of confidence now that Sparrow seems to be adding some forward thinking runs/passes to his game. I'm by no means a fan of Paton, but again, his desire to carry the ball and be more attacking than Halliday is welcome - the link between Miller/other DMC has been missing all season; if we can get that sorted hopefully it'll lead to us being more efficient in our attack.

You could argue that the first half against St Johnstone was full of promise from that perspective; we created a fair bit and Stama and Maswanhise could be a really effective front two. The issue that came in the second half was them nullifying our most effective outball in Marv down the right and Kettlewell (surprise surprise) not really adjusting for it.

Just on Miller - I remember somebody bumping their gums on here (don't remember who) about his workrate off the ball, and how he doesn't do enough. BBC Sport have an article today highlighting the stat that he's recovered the ball 72 times in 11 games. More than anyone else in the league. As well as being 11th in the league for interceptions.

He's either improved his defensive game in the last few weeks, or whoever it was has not been watching the same games as the rest of us

The bigot bros media lackeys are always moaning about a lack of competition in our top league yet every time a promising young player pops up they immediately start touting for him to go to them.

I just hope young Miller and his dad look past that crap and look further afield for his future. A move to either of the bigot bros would not help his development one little bit as he’d still be playing in exactly the same league as he is with us now.

In fairness, I don't think the media and journalists in question really care all that much, it's all about keywords for online media. And Rangers and Celtic draw more clicks than any other teams in this part of the world.

It's why they shoehorn every possible reference to those clubs into their articles. Clicks.

Certainly some wheeling and dealing required in January. Midfield and striking departments need sorting out, and thats taking into account returning injured parties.

If we're going to persist with punts up the park then I'd just like us to sign a big 6'4" brick shithouse of a No9.

He doesn't even have to be a terribly good footballer, just able to win high balls and hold defenders off.

Maybe just maybe with Nicholson and Slattery nearly ready and Paton just about there, we might have a semblance of a midfield and take the pressure off Miller (if he chooses to stick around that is).

I hope Miller moves abroad for his career development, but it would be hilarious if he ended up signing for his Dad's old team, Aberdeen. The OF media would have a meltdown.

Never happen. Best for us would be for premiership team to buy him and Loan him to us. Aberdeen lost money last term and no where near getting prospect like Lennon

Wouldn't hold much hope for the 3 midfield players you mentioned. Wouldn't have given Slattery or Paton contracts.

Paton I don't mind but slattery just brings back memories of Charles Dunne and Tanner,  giving them contracts when injured where no chance of recovering

Irrespective of returning midfielders, we are badly in need of a combative defensive midfielder in the Davor mould only bigger and nastier. Someone to shield our defence and allow us to defend further up the park

Must be some brick shithouse defender in the lower divisions just waiting to be picked up?
