Our New Manager Who Do We Want....Again?

I would not be surprised if he sets Killie up totally differently from what he subjected us to. He backed himself into a corner with the squad he built at Fir Park whereas at Killie he can start afresh. And he has a youth team that just won the Cup which suggests he might have a good few young players coming through. He may well have landed on his feet......if his ego allows him to learn from previous mistakes. Then again pressure will ramp up quickly as expectations will be high and he will have to win over another  bunch of dubious fans. And he is not taking over from a Stevie Hammell which gave him some leeway at Fir Park. I doubt the Killie Board will be as patient as our Board was.  Could well be gone by Christmas.

I wonder if grizzlyg will be sneaking off to Kilmarnock to catch the odd game!

Anyway Kettlewell is old news. Far more interested in who turns up at Fir Park. I hope Van Der Gaag is next up but I fear we will end up with a 'safe pair of hands' who has a record in Scotland

Nope.....still raging 🤣🤣. Killie are welcome to him.

I fear you may be right on this.  It’s possible our Board are in panic mode (assuming  that Wimmer’s departure has come right out of the blue) and of the view they need to make a quick appointment and that could mean they go for what they consider a safe pair of hands. I believe that we passed on Valakari and Van Der Gaag previously. Given the former seems to have St Johnstone’s owner’s approval then maybe Van Der Gaag’s time has come.

Nothing has happened yet to suggest the club are panicking in any way. Maybe they are running around with their hair on fire, but other than a press release 2 days ago not a single thing has come from the club, officially or otherwise. I'll be ignoring everything the papers put out over the next few weeks, and the bookies odds as well, as we all know it will be made up shite. The lack of names being posted on here so far is going to have them scrambling.

On a similar note, when did we last go down the "safe pair of hands route?" When did we last hire a "usual suspect"? For better or worse, we've tended to do the opposite.

Similarly, how often do clubs really do this?

I'm not even sure who would fall into this group, Mcinnes seems like the closest to this currently, maybe Goodwin? But it seems that more often than not, premier league clubs are going the external or untried route, rather than recycling the same guys.

There must be some genuinely decent young/modern Scottish managers around, and I'd love it if we unearthed someone like that, but the reality is that they'd be enough of a known quantity that our fans would write them off from day 1.

I would love to see MVDG at Motherwell but I don't think this is a realistic possibility.

He would have been my choice from the Iain Baraclough appointment onwards. I think however that was the only time he was actually ever genuinely in the frame.

I remember seeing footage once of him leaving the Manchester Utd training ground in his Lamborghini super car. I don't think Motherwell would be a financially attractive prospect for him these days.

The Herald (I think) actually announced him online as our new manager seconds before Wimmer was announced last time around. I think that was based purely on social media speculation on this board and Pie and Bovril etc.

He would be a great choice with a wealth of coaching experience but I just don't think it is a realistic possibility.

Mitchell Van Der Gaag was a serious contender when we gave the job to Ian Baraclough, same scenario happened when we appointed Wimmer . I was told by a good source after we were gubbed 3-0 off Ross County that he was being appointed on the Monday

I would like to see the guy back at Fir Park but don't think it will happen.  If we have ex players like him and Valakari applying for the job and being overlooked they will be looking elsewhere

Kettlwell , 200+ games & 40% win record

Mcinnes who's left had 150 games with Killie and. 38% win record.

When you compare to say Naismith or Docherty who have only managed 60-90 games and had win records of 30-40% I can see why SK has been offered the role.

In essence no worse than McInnes who's been pretty good for them. Also aligns with their general playing style.

I'm just glad it's not us resigning him

Killie going for the poundshop Derek McInnes to replace the genuine article who has of course moved on to bigger and better things. His beard is far superior as well.

I had no axe to grind with Kettlewell until he spouted his pish about abuse being the reason he chucked it with us. Now I wish him and his new club nothing but failure.

Yup I am the same. Backed him loads but his exit from club was in my opinion a disgrace,  wonder who his first interview as killie manager will be with.......let me guess Derek Oprah Winfrey McGregor of The Sun.

Ps.   Yup......still raging 🤣🤣

When we appointed him his managerial record was limited and not much was known about his style. Kilmarnock will have known far more about him now. His win percentage wasn't that bad, although he took us on some lengthy and worrying winless runs (KVV factor?). Having said that his preferred style of play was very unattractive. Now that might be acceptable in Perth, but it cetainly is not in Kilmarnock (or Motherwell). His transfer dealings, one notable exception apart, was poor. He never did manage to sort out our defence. The manner of his departure though should have set alarm bells ringing and loudly. He'll have a lot to do to win over their fans.

He's yesterday's man though and we should now focus our attention on our own vacancy.  I'm expecting another left field appointment, and credit where its due, the club handled things very professionally and well a few months ago. That took about 3 weeks although there were mitigating circumstances. This time, things have been very quiet on that front and the club's public statement was very short and terse about the recruitment process, as opposed to MW's departure (I detect Brian Caldwell's influence).  I'm not expecting a daily blow by blow account by the way. Also nothing so far on the release list.

Craig Brown & Archie Knox?

Kilmarnock? Kettlewell?

It was probably McGhee second time around but I strongly suspected at the time and still do that that was more down to our ‘old pals policy’ rather than going for a safe pair of hands.

Now that David DeGea (Kettlewell lookalike ) has now been announced as Killie manager they could have done worse they could have taken on the current Man Utd goalie which could have been worse

In all seriousness though I was messaging a Killie fan not long ago , he not so happy with this one at all

Glad Killie have gone early with Kettlewell.

If Dundee could also appoint quickly it would be nice.

Fair chance that our board are looking at a different set of candidates, but would be good to get the competition out the way as quick as possible.....
