wellfan
Summary of his first presser: Why Motherwell? Attracted by the club’s history, community focus, and modern ambitions. Background & Vision Brings European experience from Sparta Prague and Copenhagen. Aims to apply top-level standards at Fir Park. Squad & Transfers Significant rebuild needed. Will assess with staff and build gradually. Style of Play Wants high-intensity, possession-based football with structure and aggression. Goals No fixed targets, but sees top six as achievable. Emphasis on long-term stability. Scottish Football Views it as stylistically varied. Hopes to modernise Motherwell’s approach. Assistant Manager Recruitment ongoing; wants the right fit. Lennon Miller Aware of interest, will speak with him soon. Pre-season Underway with testing. Happy to have time to implement ideas.
weeyin
Any time I hear a new manager's first interview I remember Mike Tyson's quote about "Everybody has a plan until they're punched in the face" It does sound like we've found someone with similar ideas to Wimmer, so looking forward to seeing what develops. I also read somewhere that he has a previous track record of addressing defensive problems, which sounds like a great fit. By the time we've had our pre-season training, Peterhead won't know what's hit them.
Throughthelaces
I think in his first season I'm just looking for improvement on last season in terms of performances. There was a lot of games we looked devoid of creativity from open play and struggling at the back. I think he'll need 3 transfer windows to give us the overhaul we need. Ya Bezzer!
I thought Askou, generally, came across quite well in his interviews. However you worry slightly when managers come in and start talking about 'modernising' Scottish football and adding extra 'dimensions'. Might I suggest there is going to be a big learning curve for Mr. Askou. You got the impression Wimmer tried to do that and realised pretty quickly it was a no go. I’m not entirely sure why, but I’ve got a feeling JBA will prove to be a better manager than Wimmer. Though to be fair to Wimmer, his sample size is small. Maybe it’s because JBA has a clean slate, the chance to bring in several new players, and much of the dross has now been cleared out. As you say, I think Wimmer clocked really quickly what resources he had available and was savvy enough to adapt and find a way to get us over the line pretty comfortably. Concern would be that JBA isn’t prepared to shift (much or at all) on his principles (a bit like a certain Russell Martin at Southampton- yes, yes, different league etc. but similar issue) despite the personnel available - then it could be tough for everyone! But ………… gotta trust the guy, have faith, strap in for what could be a very interesting season ahead.
