I liked him when he played, but I don't think he got any minutes last season. It was more a number thing most top flight clubs tend to have a pool of 6/7 Central Midfield players.  We currently have 3 senior central midfielders (Watt, Fadinger, Preistman) with a few youth players on the fringes (Whyte, MaCallister)

Injuries aside, he was back up along with Nicolson. With those two now gone we have little back up to cover for injuries and suspensions. I have no idea what impact Whyte and MacAllister will have. Thats before any unwanted departures.
Stuwell2
Last season MacAllister never looked out of place any time he came on so I think he will play a bigger role this season.

We've not really had any since Miller left (I know it was a year ago) and Wilson who had a spell in the team under Kettlewell
joewarkfanclub
Im hoping Olly Whyte is gonna be taking up one of the midfield slots. If its Hallidays, Im fine with that.

Seems to be a plays across the front 3 type of attacker. Moorman replaces Welsh. He's Left footed and seems to be decent with the ball. I think we're probably still looking at another 7-10 signings before we're ready for the season: We need another CB at least maybe 2 McGinns out for months and McGhee is injury prone Need a LB. Would take James Furlong back if possible. Need a CM potentially. Need a Halliday replacement and potentially a Watt replacement if he's sold Need probably 2 attacking midfielders. Slattery is gone and Just will likely follow. Need a LW/RW what ever side we plan to use Vogt we need comp on the other side. Unless we think Luca Ross can make an impact. We need a ST. Bjorgolffson looks promising, Maswanhise is away realistically and Stamatelopolous will likely follow him out the door. Hendry looks like he'll be out for months so we need 1 potentially 2 Strikers in the door. I'd expect 5/6 to also leave - Just, Maswanhise, Watt, Stama, Oxborough, Wilson. 2/3 should be loans - CB can be cover until McGinn is back, ST to cover until Hendry is back, we have a decent track record of Loan LB signings. Gent, Furlong etc.  Furlong available on a free transfer

stv
As long as we get good money for him that's fine, did well last season but also made a lot of mistakes. Keepers get better with age and experiance usually so have to make mistakes to learn. Don't think he will be that hard to replace with someone of similar calibre. Wee Matt isn't the answer tho. I agree, Ward won the golden glove last season and if we can get some decent money for him then he deserves the opportunity, but Connolly for me definitely not the 1st choice keeper, bit of a bomb scare tbh. Worrying that Eli will go, Mas will go, Elliot going, Welsh away Gordon away,, interest in Fadinger and Ward likely departing, its now a full blown 1st team rebuild for AJ never mind squad back up players. I have the positive view though that the 2 new signings look half decent so hopefully the recruitment team n Alfred have plans in place! This is the year that Oscar, big Thor and Said have to step up and build their own move next summer. Cant wait to the Genk game to see a good few more new signings.

I strongly suspect there will be interest in the Ox from elsewhere too. As you say, its quite possible or even probable that a few of better players will leave. That would have been known for some months and succession planning put in place. The big question though is whether JBA's departure (which again was known about for some time before he left) has disrupted and delayed that process. Whatever happens, we don't want to start our Euro campaign ill prepared, as we have done in the past.
grizzlyg
If we get a good fee then its good business considering we signed him for nowt. As most folk know I have never been a huge fan though his distribution definitely was key as season wore on. I just feel we can easily get a replacement in who is hopefully better but I am not convinced matty is the answer though I love his attitude and commitment

wellsince75
To be candid I’m concerned were cash rich and talent poor.   To lose the core of manager , keeper , defenders , mid and attack we’re in a tough spot .   At the weekend a few people asked why weren’t xyz all playing - simple answer could be they’re all off to pastures new .  For the new gaffer this is a tough gig after last seasons high

Stuwell2
£800k isn’t bad for a keeper, we should be able too get a decent replacement and have some spare cash for their wages with that. I do believe that MC will become a good keeper but he’s still developing at the moment so not a first choice.
weeyin
I don't think Ward's irreplaceable, but I don't underestimate what a large part he played in our success last season. We can't just wheel in another keeper and expect them to immediately play the passing game at the same level.

Made a major contribution for us last season.
Spit_It_Out
On the positive side we are cashing in on all these players so it's a pretty much clean start for Alfred however feel we are leaving ourselves very very short for the European games i hope we have many irons in the fire.
