Hard to believe it's that close - hadn't realised it was 13 goals after 9 games - amazing how the memory works.

I think we went on to concede 4 goals in the following 19 games - now that would be a pattern worth pursing.

100% need to learn to shut up shop  - step 1 be clear who you're back 4 should be.  Step 2 - rest of team need to keep the ball and themselves moving

We didnt really tighten up until after the League Cup Semi Final v St Mirren and that was in November.

I was referring to the league - it was after 9 league games we went on the extraordinary defensive record .

Think we’d all be delighted to keep keep things tight for the next phase of games

Stood behind goal with son watching shooting practice, son piped up have you seen maswanhise shooting hes woeful, think he hit net with one out of seven shots, the rest of players not much better.

That's something I watch every week and seriously the numbers are fucking shocking. He never hits a 50% success rate in the warm up shooting practice.

Yup and remember Jens started with welsh and slattery on bench that night. Just to say even Jens made mistakes

Yes JBA made mistakes, all managers do and at a club of our stature we are never going to have the perfect manager.

Overall Jens Berthel Askou was really good for us. He brought about a different brand of playing and management which we saw in the performances of several players. We were slick, well drilled and disciplined. When we were at our peak we were great, but at the same time you could look back and say things could/should have been better especially with the two dismal cup exits. He more than earned his big move in the summer and he and we move on.

I don’t see Alfred Johansson getting anywhere near those levels for us and getting anything like a move like JBA got when he leaves us. Can you?

Still hopeful he can turn things round but always a hard act to follow...I mean......Jens was a legend! 🤪🤪

If he hadn’t fucked up that LCSF against St.Mirren and got to have a crack at a Wilfried Nancy led Celtic in the final chances are he would be a legend and forever written into Motherwell FC folklore.

None of us know for sure...I would say next 3 games are crucial for him. At the minute I dont see it but he seems an intelligent bloke so he can see whats needed...give him a chance...if things not improving after st mirren game, conversations may be required.

I wouldn't distance sod completely,  you need a voice in dressing room but cant have him in central defence ever again.

Goalie needs a rest, lets see if MC can step up.

Agreed. I wasn't convinced of him when we first signed him, but he's selling just too many goals. He's a great shot shotstopper, but still prone to the odd howler eg at Dens Park. His distribution is poor and he's costing us a number of cheap goals from passing out. Add to that his lack of aerial ability and in short, his strengths are outweighed bu his weaknesses. Would it be possible to cut short his loan in January? Our alternative, Matty Connelly, doesn't fill me with confidence either.

Having been around goalies most of my life Dave, the absolute baseline for any keeper is shot stopping, close second is organisation and communication after that commanding your area, comfortable with passbacks and distribution.

We have 1 on that list, he's decent at that but he gives me the fear at times, have to hope he comes good, he's young for a keeper.

I think Ive got to the stage Id like to see Matty Connelly given a chance.

I know for confidence reasons, a manager will always support his goalkeeper, but when part of the way we play requires good distribution, its hard to stick by someone when its harming the team. The mistakes I could actually live with for a while, but outside of those, his distribution still isnt great.

Connolly has always seemed very comfortable with the ball at his feet. He is a little on the short side for me, but I think the other side of his game would have benefits. He is also "Our Player" and Id like to see us try to develop him if we are having issues with a loanee.

Your thoughts would be appreciated YT.

This was posted over on P&B.

I know its Maurice Ross, but he actually picks apart what we are trying to do, and whats going wrong, pretty well.

Encouragingly, alot of our current issues are individual errors and can be fixed pretty easily.

Agreed, good insight and goes to show how dugmeat Sparrow really is.

I think dugmeat is harsh.

Clearly at fault for the 2nd and 3rd goals.

But coaching him when to sit and when to jump, off the back of that video, shouldnt be difficult.

Koutroumbis is still the better option, when fit. We just cant rely on that.

I feel for Sparrow - he's a midfielder and at his best attacking and getting into the box.

There's 10 defenders in the squad, 5 are wingbacks yet Sparrow is the one shoehorned in RB.

Sparrow is the modern Liam Grimshaw, someone who professes to be a midfielder but somehow finds themselves fortunate enough to play a string of games at full back despite not having the quality in either position...I genuinely don't think 'dugmeat' is being overly unkind
