The financial benefit makes it well worth playing in Europe - especially if you make it to the group stages. It's also something the players want to be involved with, and an added attraction for new signings. And, to be honest, I find the thought of playing a Euro game or two at the start of the season more appealing than a trip to New Douglas Park and yet another game against Morton.

You are correct mate European Football leaves me completely cold. Couldn't care if I never saw another European game ever again. Although I accept if we have a great season, which Id always want , that comes as part of it. Id never spend a single penny going abroad to watch a European game again Seen it done it , the novelty's past and our efforts in general have been dismal in our 38 outings. Happy to say I was fortunate to watch our best performance away (Dortmund) but all the rest, other that Odense and Nancy, have been a whole lot of nothing in my view. The money is a bonus I know but I never started supporting Motherwell to watch a balance sheet. I watch for excitement , drama and decent football and European football , for us, has produced very little of that. I don't expect anyone else to agree its just a personal opinion. For others who love it, great lap it up, if it arrives.

Was same under Kettlewell to be fair but what we seem to have is an incredible team spirit and the link between players and supporters us great. Elliott Watt ( an unsung hero) shares great instagram posts of his family and kids all in well gear. Is great seeing the players so united and yes it's a job in progress but such a feelgood factor at the moment. COYW

I also tend not to be that excited by the prospect of Europe. Any cash is welcome and it's a sign (generally) of having watched us win a few games to get there and that's a good thing. But I think having seen us in Europe a few times, the novelty has worn off. However a mate of mine did make the point that it would be nice just once to have a go at Europe with the good team that got us there. Frustration is often we have a team that's good enough to qualify, then we lose half of them at the end of the season and we're in qualifying in July bedding in a new team, with players sometimes not as good.. Other than Slattery, all our key players are under contract for next season. Maybe now is the time to qualify..?

No mugs just thugs as usual they will try and kick us off the park.

Indeed, I get no satisfaction whatsoever seeing other provincial clubs doing well, it just annoys me that it isn’t us. On a completely different note, should we manage to win the league cup (a very, very tall order I know) we can do so in the knowledge that we don’t get European qualification as a result. For me personally and from what I’ve seen from your posts that is a big positive! We win a big shiny domestic trophy and we are spared the embarrassment/damp squib that the European ‘award’ would inevitably bring. Happy days eh! 🏆

I think that's when he was suspended. I'm sure there were other stories that came out later too.
-
I didn't know that he was suspended by the sfa. But I seem to remember some kind of bribery accusations involving an Italian team , but I might be wrong.

Just can't see who "liked" posts on this thread...float mouse over and I think it used to tell you? Doesn't seem to any more...anyone else see this?

Mair like glass half fool thread ? 🙄

When the 1970's version of the SFA suspends you for improper behaviour, like they did with Gordon, you must have been really corrupt.
-
The other take from the posts above are that whichever team starts we have very decent players on the bench to sub on and maintain the level of performance. I think Said is benefitting greatly from all the playing time he is getting at the moment and might even retain his inclusion in starting line ups.
-
Totally agree. we played Rangers of the pitch in the first half, and the Rangers players had a word with that excuse for an unbiased referee and he gave them a ridiculous penalty, with Derek Johnstone running away from the goals, went down without being touched. Total fix.
-
You don’t think? I’m certain they don’t. All they get to do is offer opinions. The rest of your view makes sense, but I still stand by my view on managerial bollocks.
-
Yup lots of competition for places which is always a good thing. Koutrombis started well but he now needs to earn his place back as SOD has upped his game and been really good so far.
-
I don't think that fans get to make those decisions. Without knowing anything about Udinese or their manager, I'll assume that they have their own way of playing and that they have a specific role in mind for Miller, which may be different to what he is used to, so he'll need time to learn that. He'll also need to learn how to communicate effectively, so hopefully he's getting paid enough to afford a private Italian tutor for a couple of hours a day. He was also injured and needs to get his match fitness back, so there are a variety of factors that may be limiting his game-time.

I think it says something about the strength of squad at the minute that even after the levels of his performance against Hearts, Just doesn't automatically walk back into the team for Saturday if he’s available. Doesn't feel at the moment that we need to take too many risks by rushing players back. Same will apply to McGinn and Hendry (and Slattery in a couple of weeks)... As to how we'll go this Saturday? In this situation with two non Old Firm teams playing each other two weeks in a row, you generally say one team doesn't win both. I'm not so sure. The aforementioned potential return of Just, Hendry and McGinn will keep the players on the pitch from relaxing too much...

From The Scotsman: You can see the latter effort at 6:45 here.

I thought Hearts and Aberdeen fully tested our new expansive, attractive game and we came out with a draw and a win. I hope that on Sat we will continue on our improvement and come away with a solid victory. COYW

A win on Saturday would be massive for the teams confidence 3 points could see us up to 3rd depending on other results.
-
We certainly won’t fear them. We controlled large chunks of the game up north. Thelin looked a bit shell shocked in the interviews after the match. No doubt freaking out that he has us again next week and defeat will probably lose him his job.
-
Will help a lot if we are back to full strength for the semi. If we do make it to the final, I hope it is versus Rangers so that Welsh can play.
-
I don’t give a feck if LM’s new manager and club throw him in the deep end or easing him in gently cause he’s now an ex player and I believe that he’ll take whatever happens in his stride and that in the next few years he’ll be playing in a top European league with a top team.

A good draw for us as its its a tough but winnable tie. Given that the gate receipts are shared, I doubt if the draw will make much difference. Had Sevco and Celtic been kept apart, neither tie would have been anywhere near a sell out. As it is, the OF game will be a guaranteed sell out. Almost certainly, the Police will allocate us the east side of the stadium. Anything else would be ridiculous.
