19 shots today. Nice change, I've often needed 19 shots after watching us to recover my Saturday.5 points

I agree with much of what you both say. The board are damned if they do damned if they don’t. Being a board member or a manager of a team like Motherwell presents significant challenges and it is so easy to be an anonymous armchair critic. I think Alan Burrows in particular has been a huge positive for the club over the last few years and the Board have done a remarkable job of picking the right man at the right time over the last 15 years to ensure our top flight status. The naysayers criticising manager after manger does get wearing after a while. Alexander is actually the first manager since Maurice Malpas that I completely lost faith in. For me the Sligo result and performance was unacceptable. I just get a sense this time that this is the most crucial of appointments and the most challenging to date. I would be delighted and impressed if they have called this one correctly. There is no doubt that it is a very tough call to make. If there is a man that I would want to be successful, Stevie Hammell is the man but I do have the fear for him. He has a really tough task ahead of him.4 points

Now that Stevie Hammell has been given the job, we can hopefully turn a page. I totally understand everyones resevations about him getting the job and the great desire not to want to see his status tarnished in any way. However, there were always going to be risks and reservations amongst the support regardless of which candidate was appointed. One thing I do know is that I havent wanted to see any Motherwell manager succeed as much as I do this guy, and Im sure the vast majority if not all of our support are the same. Its a fresh start for this team and the management. Hopefully we can park the negativity and give the manager and players the patience they will require to turn things around. Up the 'Well!2 points

I think that's why I got so down about Alexander's soul-less approach, and I mean really down. A few posters were talking about Motherwell fan "romantics" up-thread, I think, so I'm certainly one of those and frankly I've been deeply embarrassed by our performances since the New Year, the worst in my view since Tommy McLean's first season, when he was struggling with almost no money and a limited squad. Actually, I'm less worried about our squad than I was even a week ago: amazing what happens when you play players in their natural positions, try some pass and move combinations and go forward whenever the opportunity arises. If we can nail down a serviceable LB and a forward to assist/push KVV, things might be better than we thought in that area. Listening to SH's pre-and post- match comments has restored my faith in our club and football generally. Blood and snotters next week against Livi so a different kind of game for Stevie to plan for. And so we go on.....1 point

During Alexanders tenure every game was so stressfull to watch, as the only thing we could cling on to was a potential result, because the football itself is shite. You can forgive a lot when the team plays like that, with attacking intent and maximum effort. As shite as our inevitable losses are going to be, you can take it as part of the process, and be annoyed at the result without the feeling of futility you got with the previous guy. I reserve the right to take this back if we lose to livi :-)1 point

Exactly Motherwell fans were not being unreasonable with the views of games under GA we know it's swings and roundabouts but it is an entertainment business so it's not unreasonable to expect some. That was great today, nerve jangling up n downs but interspersed with some lovely football... That's what it's all about.1 point

Delighted for Hammy, and the players who responded so well to his complete change of philosophy. He has given us some pride back. It's always great to see a team fight back from being behind too: shows the new spirit in the team I hope.1 point

Look at him, desperately trying no to burst out laughing during that interview. Brilliant to see. Feels like a huge weight's been lifted from the whole place. By mutual consent.1 point

I've liked they way Hammell talked about the game since he took over. Of course, as someone who has spent every day for the last 4 years coaching, it's not surprising he talks more like a coach than a manager, but it has been refreshing to listen to his interviews and good to see players responding to his ideas.1 point

I know it's only 1 game but amazing the difference that a manager can make with the same players and actually playing them in correct position and giving them freedom to express themselves, very encouraging1 point

I was just wondering how we do that we seem stuck in a loop of those kind of goals conceeded and doesn't seem to change no matter the permutation. Mind you I don't give a fuck today I'd rather just think of the decent football I watched.1 point

Their fans are, in the main, obnoxious, odious dangle berries. Fuck them.1 point

Went onto one of the Aberdeen forums and as you’d expect they’re livid at getting beat by a rank rotten , crap, pathetic ,useless Motherwell team…..absolutely brilliant. Best was a Dons fan who said “ this is nae gan weel.1 point

Must admit, one of the apprehensive ones when appointing Hammell, thinking, who can he attract to our club, but one thing he will give is commitment and heart two things we have been missing from the end of Robinson’s tenure. Well done today, best I’ve seen us play for a while, hopefully a few new faces to strengthen team the onwards and upwards COYW1 point

Excellent from the boys. They played with freedom today and like a weight had been lifted. Cornelius was outstanding as was Goss who looked like he was given licence to roam and dictate the play going forward. Enjoy your Saturday night folks indeed.1 point

Enjoyable good performance and a win. See! Not mutually exclusive. That makes you want to go watch a game. Not sure if we can play that well every week but at least we know what we are aiming for.1 point

Well, Well, (Super) Well who would have thought it!! What a result. Third place . Europe beckons!!! What could possibly go wrong. Congratulations Stevie Hammell. Absolutely brilliant!!1 point

We're back! I was actually happy we were playing Aberdeen in this match just because the players might have been more confident from results against them last season. I was not expecting a win, though. Delighted.1 point

Shame we've missed all these chances, but it's a much better complaint to have than going 90 mins without creating a clear chance.1 point

Hammie must go. We have Bevis doing mazy runs from defence with the ball! What is with this passing to team mates. Will never catch on :p1 point

Bet you wouldn’t say that to his face , if you were standing next to him about him whining , eh. I can remember the tackle against Hibs that effectively put him out the game. They were going for him all game. Think it was just before the cup final as well . 100 % effort every game he played for us . Pity we haven’t got anyone with his guts and commitment on the park now.1 point

KVV to find some fitness and form out of nowhere and shithouse us to a 1-0 win! Up the 'Well! We are ALL Stevie Hammell!1 point

Sad, bitter, man. He has lived off his cult status with us, and some weirdos still feed into it.1 point

I shall go 2-1 to the Superwell! Penalty and SOD to put in a 20 yard belter! Disclaimer I have been out in the sun for most of the day and am bealing like a ripe tomato borderline sunstroke. COYW1 point

Didn't take long to reach the stage where some posters would rather Hammell fails so they can say "I was right" than see him succeed and prove them wrong1 point

i dont think alan b has time to answer every passing thought that comes into a fans head , i think it was quite well explained in sh inetrview , so why does he need to expand1 point

Given his lack of experience, you have to think that the other people to apply and get interviewed must have failed to stack up. Having said that, with the names that were being thrown about both on here and elsewhere, I ad pretty much come round to the idea that Hammell was as good an option as any. From what I have seen of him, mainly as a player and recently in his temporary role as manager, he appears to be of sound character. As such, he is the kind of person I would wish to be in charge. He has given the club most of his career and there can be no doubt that he knows the club, understands the club and, dare I say it? loves the club. That is the sort of person I want to be in charge of my club. I know that this is both a romanticized and unrealistic approach to what is a business, but we have tried serious and pragmatic with our last few managers and where has that got us? And now I think about it, you probably need a romanticised and unrealistic approach if you support a team like Motherwell. I think Steven Hammell will give his all in his new post. I hope he sets us up to play with style and ambition and, in doing so,reaps the success that we all crave. He is fortunate to have a good idea of our youth setup, so hopefully he can utilise this and show that we are a club that can give young players a chance. Who knows what the future will bring? Will it work out for the best or will we crash and burn? The one thing you can pretty much be sure of is that there will be downs as well as ups. I wish him all the best and every success. I am willing to get right behind him and know that if things do not go our way, it will not be for the want of trying! COYW!1 point

Nothing wrong with being positive mate. Nothing at all. Indeed I love a bit of positivity and am fully supportive of Steven Hammell as manager. I just hated that “We are all Stuart McCall” pish that we got back in the day. It’s up there with ‘FHW’ in the cringeworthy, toe-curling abominable patter stakes. Neither of them top “We exist to improve people’s lives” mind you. If the media team changed that to “We exist to wipe people’s arses” it wouldn’t be any more or any less pointless or ridiculous.0 points
