  1. Can I just say the football we are playing right now is an absolute joy to watch. We are totally dominating teams in terms of possession and are brave in all areas of the park. We need to be more clinical but that will come. All I can say is I was really struggling the last few years watching Motherwell - it was a real chore at times, but now it’s fantastic to see us play actual football and get the rewards for being brave.

  2. I’m all for this style of play, but without a proper striker we can’t keep playing like this and expect to win games.

  3. Sums up our season thus far. It'll click at some point and we'll blow teams away.

  4. 951 ! In all seriousness I'm enjoying watching us again, it's been really entertaining and expect us to win.

  5. I think we would all prefer that. Except that currently we do not have one young player that is good enough to step up. And no-one of the quality that Rice showed before his move to Ibrox. Scottish internationalist alongside Miller. And Captain I think. Despite his lack of first team games he has performed well at Rangers. In hindsight maybe he should have stayed with us though. And like Miller waited a few years before cashing in, As soon as we saw Miller and Turnbull given a first team outing it was obvious they were a class above. Can you say that about any of the young players we have seen since? Youth development will continue in the background irrespective of whether we bring in loan players or not. The Miller fee will help in that respect but it will take time. Maybe the extra funding will enable us to poach quality from other Academies which should speed up the process and provide faster results. I hope so. The only down side with Rice would be him having to sit out any game against Rangers. He is out of contract in 2026 and if we got the opportunity to sign him outright…now or then… I think we would crazy to pass up on the opportunity. Of course some fans will never get over the fact he opted to move to Rangers and would be on his back from day one. Such is life in Scotland where even revealing their backing for either of the OF brings out the worst in fans of their parent club. We are no exception. Bottom line. Any signing that improves the side is a good signing. Loan or not.

  7. Lots of good performances today. Thought Watt was excellent again. He is going to be the glue that holds us together this season. Fadinger decent again and got the vital goal. Stama did a power of running and led the press well. If our delivery improves he might actually get some chances to score! Just was my MOTM though. Total buzz bomb throughout and the one trying to repeatedly unpick the St Johnstone lock. He did tire towards the end of the game and I would have probably subbed sooner. Just hope it is only cramp he was suffering from and not any sort of muscle injury.

  8. Thought we played very well again today. St Johnstone started really well but tonce we figured them out we basically dominated the ball. We do need to be better with out decision making and delivery in the final third, that way, we might allow our only striker to have some shots at goal that he can be fairly judged on! We are still a little weak at the back and gifting some unecessary chances, and a mixture of those two weaknesses could have seen us in trouble today, but we managed to keep the clean sheet and get the goal required to see us over the line, so all good. Osong didnt really show me too much today to suggest he will be the answer to our striking problems, but he was played out wide, so I will wait until we see him thru the middle before passing judgement. I did think he would be quicker than he showed however. Overall, another solid team perdormance and you can see ethe players are all having fun and buying into the managers philosophy. Most of them were absolutely burst by the end. Also nice to see young Xander McAllister get a start. Both he and Luca Ross provided a fresh energy to proceedings when they camae on. Big couple of weeks for the management team now. We clearly need some bodies in the door. Hopefully they will be of the quality required for us to have a successful season. We are so close to having a really good team.

  9. The premise of your post is that every time we have a big crowd we are shite and lose. Its a trope on here that fly's in the face of actual facts. We played well last week at a difficult away venue and didnt lose. We did the same today and are in the next round of the cup. So maybe we need to put this nonsense to bed.

  10. A good win today in difficult circumstances. Saints are flying high in the Championship and, according to a BBC pundit, would be expecting to score a few goals today. Another clean sheet for us and we progress. Young Zander McAllister also made his debut. On the debit side we really do need to beef up our attack, but the manager knows that.

  15. It was clear last season that he wasn’t the answer, yet somehow he’s been handed the number 9 shirt this season.

  16. Again, not a bad team performance but nothing to show for it. You can see what the manager is trying to do if nothing else, unfortunately it’s totally ineffective with the players he has.

  17. He's basically said we need to bring in strikers. It's not like he hasn't seen a game of football before. It will also take time to adjust, because players in this league have lobbing high balls in their DNA.

  18. This is torture to watch and until we address our frontline issues then it will continue. If you can’t score goals you don’t win football matches. It’s that simple.

  20. If we’re in for Bailey Rice, great, but only if it’s with the intention of signing him and not just loaning him.

  23. Ian Thomson arrived at Motherwell in 1962 coming straight from Mussleburgh Winsor, he was a powerful forward who went on to play in over 80 games in all competitions for the Steelmen, his goal return was modest in that he found the back of net in 15 occasions, he was released six years later in 1968, it was felt that he was player that should have brought more in his time in Lanarkshire, he joined South African club Hellenic in 1968.

  29. Good call on Ian St. John. We would likely never had signed Bobby Graham if it wasn't for the influence of his old team mate.

  30. I'll mention Ian St.John as one if the best. I believe it was his masterstroke of pairing Bobby Graham and Wullie Pettigrew. The best striking partnership that I've seen in my time supporting The 'Well. Other greats have been Tommy McLean (obviously) and Wullie McLean for some great days in the mid-70's when the Premier League was formed. Some great cup days. Good include McCall, Robinson, McGhee (Mk 1), Butcher for reasons already mentioned in the thread. On Roger Hynd, I seem to recall that his tenure started with an 8-game unbeaten run. In the 9th game, 2-0 up against Rangers, their fans invaded the pitch and got the game stopped. On restarting, Motherwell appeared shell-shocked and lost 5-3. After that the wheels came off for Hynd. I wonder what would have happened if the game had proceeded without the pitch invasion and Motherwell went on to humiliate Rangers that day. Worst of all time? Either Malpas or McLeish. Malpas gave us a horrendous season and then on the final game of the season Fir Park refused to let the team come out to the fans. McLeish destroyed a wonderful team and spent loads of money doing it. He then did exactly the same at Hibs and to the extent that anyone can fail, he managed it at Rangers too.
