  1. I don't really want to find out how we'll react to going behind I quite enjoy not conceding goals

  2. There were a lot of players who looked brutal under Kettlewell. A few of them are doing very well under Jens......

  3. The 800k bid for AP in the summer was as much made up paper talk as all the JT stuff this month. Completely unsubstantiated but some folk are taking it as gospel for some reason.

  4. Following the match online, I found myself in a bit of a dilemma. I would be beyond myself on every level measurable if we were to win the league but am realistic enough to realize that this is highly improbable., I lived in Edinburgh for most of my life so have a well merited dislike of Hearts. I have no real liking for St Mirren either when it comes down to it. I really detest the Old Firm. As such, I am prepared to accept the possibility of Hearts winning the league as being better than either of the bigot brothers doing so, especially as I now live on the other side of the world from Edinburgh. As such, Hearts losing is, from my original perspective, a poor result. This quandary has caused me to pause and consider ultimately what would be a good result for us tomorrow. I originally felt that a win would be fantastic and a draw, away from home against an improving Dundee side, would be acceptable in the circumstances. However, having taken the opportunity to delve deeply into my soul, I have come to the only logical and reasonable conclusion that only a win for us will do. It is not for any personal hope that I may revel in the glory of my team's success, or any misguided idea that their victory will make me, in any way, a better person. I am saying this because I honestly think that this Motherwell side winning the league will be a universally good thing. I believe that us winning the league will be a win for the good guys. The little guys who play by the rules and play the game the way it should be played. As such, I can claim with all honesty, sincerity and altruistically that a win for Motherwell is a win for football, a win for Scotland, and, in these dark and troubled days, a win for the whole of mankind. Too much?

  5. Not ideal but Halliday can cover as left back when he’s fit. He played left back under Gerrard at Rangers …. For most of that season I think? and he also was left back when he played down south at Middlesbrough and Bradford. ok his legs are a bit gone but he knows the system and he is a good passer of the ball. He could do a Stevie Hammell job in an emergency

  6. Aye ok then, Robinson is not one of the few

  7. If he was JBA would have him strolling round the park like Maldini

  8. Absolutely. McGhee and McGinn can also play on the right but not on the left. LB is a weak area.

  9. Maybe the change in the board has changed attitudes. With more football based decisions from people on the board who maybe actually, know a bit about football no just running a business. Starting with signing Wimmer, then handling him leaving really well, then signing JBA after doing the ground work to identify him and getting him on board. Then buying into his style of football ,supporting him by bringing I'm players he obviously identified. Resisting wasting good money on panic buys to fill in squad places. Quality rather than quantity. I think there has been a total change of attitude at the top of the club and it is obvious to see. Which they all deserve credit for. This team is a joy to watch as it is.

  10. Hearts once again looking awful and down to 10 men. So no doubt will win 1-0 in the 96th minute 😂

  11. I don't disagree. While I know logically we might to lose a game at some point from a poor performance, dodgy decision or bad luck, every game right now feels winnable. The last time it felt like this was when we ran away with the First Division under Davie Hay. We lost the first game at Rugby Park then went on something like a 20 league game unbeaten streak (and only lost 4 all season).

  12. I think folk are getting the wrong end of the stick here. I said I was slightly underwhelmed with the window purely because I expected 1 or 2 new bodies in based on what Jens had said in his pressers. Im not disappointed. Far from it. Id much rather we were where we are now than the trolley dash we have become accustomed to over previous seasons. But that doesnt mean you cant be analytic about it and point out where we could have done better. Left back cover is an obvious weakness. I know Koutroumbis and SOD can both play there, but both are currently injury doubts for tomorrow meaning we dont currently have cover for Sparrow or Longelo. Filling that space would have made sense to me.

  13. Best transfer window ever and listening to JBA Dundee presser we held firm and didn't buckle to any nonsense pennies in the pocket bids instead of pounds! What a time to be a Well fan more than happy what has went on same faces that's took us to where we are instead of a team filled with loan faces we shall forget ever came through the doors of Fir Park Pretty disappointed to hear disgruntled voices we don't need another left back why?Cause big Jens says so! Up the Well!

  14. Who are you defining as our peer clubs? I assume you mean the likes Killie, St Mirren, and Falkirk? The first two brought in numbers because they're bad, and we're miles ahead of them. We have our best squad in years. Falkirk are loaning a bunch of players from England, which is a mixed bag. If you're counting the current top 5 as peer clubs, that's a different question. For us to compete with them we'll need silly money, and we dont knownif any of theor signings are any good. They were in a similar position as the other teams above, outside of hearts they all had glaring holes that needed fillers, and they all seen themselves as significantly underperformed. Our biggest concern was keeping our excellent squad together, and we did it - that's shouldn't be understated as im sure there were decent offers flying in. Id say the backup left back is where we missed out, but Johnny K has done well there, and no doubt we cluld shift SODs there of necessary. After that it looks like Luca Ross

  15. I loved the relative peace and quiet of that window. That's what the January window of a properly functioning team looks like. 1 or 2 additions to add a bit of quality or something different and keeping hold of all the main squad (despite all the paper/social media talk it never felt likely to me anyone was in danger moving on). All while managing to trim the numbers down slightly getting rid of guys on the periphery, after a few seasons of having a stupid number of players on the books, and still with time for Robinson (if fit) or Halliday etc to go out on loan and cut that further. Much better than scrambling about signing any old Eddie Nolan, Luke Plange or Steven Lawless that you can get your hands on just for the sake of it or out of sheer desperation.

  16. As JBA said, the problem with any player is that, in January, they need to be able to immediately fit into the system. Otherwise they are better off being summer signings with a full pre-season. Does Furlong fit into that category? I remember him bombing up the wing, but under Kettlewell he certainly wasn't coached to play all the short passes across the penalty box, or to find a man rather than punt a clearance. As the manager said, however, clubs don't just start looking for players during the window. It's a 365 days a year process. So if we didn't bring in a new left back it's either because we couldn't find one that was ready and available, or that JBA didn't think we needed one at this point.

  17. Not signing a left back doesn't concern me too much as Johnny K can play that role as can SOD if required. We have a good cushion over Falkirk and Hibs and be great to maintain that. Sellik cup tieing Welsh makes no sense to me but he is going to be crucial for all of our league games

  18. Not a million miles away from my view Joe. In short we have to keep ahead, if only slightly, of our peer clubs. Its not just what we do or don't do, its what they do too. Performance and results wise we've done really well this season, and I didn't expect, at the outset, that to happen this quickly or at all to be frank. However we can't rest on our laurels. We have got a little cash in the war chest and whilst we can't afford to squander that or eat into other budgets, hopefully it'll help to boost summer recruitment.

  19. Can you picture the reception that Welsh will get when he walks into the dressing room. You can't buy that togetherness.

  21. Overall, I'd say its been a decent to good window; probably rating around an 8 out of 10. It could have been much worse, for example if we'd failed to secure another striker, lost a centre back and lost TJ. It could have been slightly better if we'd signed another LB. To add to the mix we have McGhee and Nicholson back now. I always believe that the time to strengthen is when things are going well and if we want to hold onto 4th or even drop to 5th place then more of the same simply won't do. To clarify, I mean the personnel not the system which will continue to work well. Ostensibly both Aberdeen and Hibs have strengthened and even if only some of their new recruits hit the ground running then they'll threaten us. Fortunately we have a decent cushion over both. We mustn't ignore Falkirk either as they are a credible threat and may have strengthened slightly. If we fall to 6th I'd still be delighted. If we drop to 5th place I'll still be over the moon and if we can hang onto 4th place I'll be ecstatic. Finishing in the top 3 whilst theoretically possible is pretty much beyond us. A Scottish cup run? Not so sure this time round. I really think we can achieve something next season though, with or without JBA.

  24. Happy if he is available, I’m not sure how the signings work in practice- does Welsh need to be about waiting to sign a document? ie not in bed dreaming of how to beat Dundee 😀

  25. I think he’s a big part of our team who know exactly how JBA wants him to play and yes it means changes for cup games but JBA has been making changes for numerous games so I’m not too worried about that.

  26. Only a circus for us, I'm sure Jens went to bed tonight thinking how to beat Dundee

  27. There were definetly Lb's available we could of got James Furlong was looking for a loan move from Hull that he never got I'd of taken him to the end of the season.

  28. Slightly underwhelmed with the window. Obviously delighted we didnt lose any players. But the club were in a real position of strength on that one, with money in the bank and long term contracts all around. Signing a striker is good, and although getting Welsh back is to be welcomed, he is still cup tied and cant play against Celtic, so tinged with frustration. Not signing a left back is disappointing, unless we couldnt get who we wanted or there is maybe a deal still to be announced this morning. Overall, we are stronger coming out of the window than when we went in, with Nicholson and McGhee coming back. Hopefully Watt and RCC not too far behind them. We also managed to get Stuparevic out the door, so Robinson is really the only unanswered question. I think we are in decent shape, but we will have to see how the business our peer clubs have done pans out before we can assess our expectations for the rest of the season. C+
