  1. I’m pretty sure they know what to do we just have to do it. When we turn the ball over you need to apply pressure on the ball to slow down the opposition attack or preferably win the ball back, high up the park. So in essence you have to move up and down the field as a team otherwise it’s hard to put pressure on the opposition. We were doing a great job of that (playing as a unit) earlier in the season and it’s one of those basics that we need to re learn. It takes concentration and effort and I think for our players they just have trouble applying that concentration and effort every week. Hopefully we find the trigger to get them back in that mindset very soon.

  4. Nor disagreement here. Your summation aligns with my ‘tail wagging the dog’ quip.

  5. He'll probably need to adapt if we are to start winning games. However, the problem is that he's painted himself into a corner through how he's shaped the current squad through his signings and who he's released/sold/loaned out. That's why all the attempted adaptions we've seen so far have been square pegs in round holes and schoolboys covering injuries. The latter probably isn't his fault, as he had to cut the squad size, but the former is due to his transfer business being geared to Plan A, and that plan only, which quickly fizzled out.

  6. Maybe. But I think he’d benefit more if we had at least one midfielder that could make passes into the inside-right and inside-left channels for him to exploit his pace and strength. Sorry about the old-fashioned terminology.😉

  7. It's clear that the club is, and has been for some time, in an almost rudderless holding pattern, haemorrhaging money and goals throughout. It's beyond disappointing, and I would expect better from a professional football club, but the lack of clear leadership and strategy explains why we're in the mess we are, both on and off the park. It's a worrying time to be a Well fan.

  8. I certainly am not into kicking the guy when he's down and actually mentioned on Saturday the crucial save he had at 0-1. I am sure he is a nice guy and well liked. I also said a while back if not for him we would already be in the championship as he saved us after Aaron Chapman!!. Jeez remember him. I hope Kelly gets his confidence back and I want him to succeed. Hopefully will bounce back on Saturday but I fear every cross ball etc etc he is a bag of nerves

  9. I was a bit of a goalie in my youth , and I was the rubbish bit. Goalie gloves were not a thing then but playing on ash pitches and mould master balls were . Goalies have it easy nowadays.

  10. This season agreed. But he did a good job last season. His will to win lifted us on numerous occasions. But like a good few others he has disappointed this season.

  11. I was considering Paton for Slattery. I though Slattery was off it yesterday, he didn’t even get booked.

  12. I'd seriously love this to be the game our dreadful run comes to an end and bring they cocky bastards back down to earth. Sadly I can't see it. They have a better team than us and St Mirren Away has started to become a bit of an iffy fixture for us.

  13. Is it not the COO's job to run the day to day? That's why, for example, St Mirren employed Las in that role. Lots of clubs don't even use the CEO model, so it's not a necessity for running a football team - or running a business for that matter. It's just one approach of many. Anyway, as far as the communication we've seen goes, we hired a head hunting firm and we haven't found anybody qualified that wants to do the job. That's not that surprising, at least to me, as a good CEO would likely need to take a pay cut to join us. So the only incentive would be if they were a Motherwell fan. Derek Weir would be a good option, but while he's a Motherwell fan he falls inside the "would need to take a big pay cut" category. Although it's good he is acting CEO for now. Alternatively, we can take a risk on someone that's never been a CEO before and hope they can step up. I'm still available for that option - just a phone call away.

  14. Weird one today. I thought we played some decent football at times and seemed much more confident in defence than we have in previous weeks. Delighted that Gent and Davor had strong performances today, Gent should be one of the first names on the team sheet from now on and I’d expect to see Davor feature much more too. The mistake from Kelly at the St Johnstone goal is amateur stuff, really poor and I don’t think Obika offered much - he can hold up the ball pretty well, but that’s it eh? Absolutely murder in front of goal. The goal we score is sublime. When I was leaving today, I heard someone say “they were gutted we scored” and I’ve seen a lot of that on social media and on this thread too. I can’t get my head round that way of thinking. It’s fucking bizarre. when we punted Hammel and Alexander the players had totally downed tools, it seemed hopeless, but I don’t get that feeling with this team. They’re all up for it, I just don’t think the quality is there. There is obviously an argument that much of this team are Kettlewell signings, of course, so do we trust him with the transfer window? I really don’t know. My gut tells me that sacking SK at this stage would be a mistake, but I do think we need to be having a major conversation about how our club is being run from the top. Anyways, had wee Mika at 9/4 anytime goal scorer so I proper fucking enjoyed that one.

  15. I never said it never happened. Just said I never understood it. Totally counter productive. Pretty sure the fans berating the players want the team to do better. But their actions arent going to help. Players being told they are shite mostly go into their shell and become frightened to try anything remotely risky. Its why a run of results like this becomes self perpetuating as confidence drains game by game. By all means, berate away, but you arent helping the team by doing so.
